[14:54:02] timoke: Hi
[14:59:03] timoke: I have a working mythtv backend installation in qemu VM. I just recently prepared a container for an other myth backend installation and got it working properly. Then I changed its hostname and restored a mysql backup from the qemu installation. No the new installation seems to work in all other aspects but playback. FE sees recordings and seems to be able to contact BE but whenever I try to playback some recording, the FE just freez
[14:59:10] timoke: Any ideas?
[15:36:27] mack: Do either the backend or frontend logs provide a clue?
[15:37:04] timoke: Nothing
[15:37:30] timoke: FE seems to freeze so solid, that it doesn't say anything in the log
[15:38:43] mack: From your wording, it seems you went from VM to docker?
[15:38:58] timoke: Actually LXC
[15:39:17] timoke: From QEMU to LXC
[15:44:02] timoke: I even tried to purge the BE installation and then reinstalled it and set MySQL Password in WEB setup. It didn't change anything.
[15:45:27] mack: The initial lxc backend worked fine — could record and a frontend could playback — before restoring the database?
[15:45:43] timoke: Yes
[15:46:32] timoke: I restored with --drop- and --create-database
[15:48:15] timoke: When I tried to watch live TV, FE freezed again but BE seemed to record the program.
[15:50:03] timoke: A couple of time I have seen a pop up on FE saying "Failed to open remote file myth://..."
[15:52:01] mack: I would suspect file permissions at first glance, but I have no experience migrating database to another backend and no experience with running it in a container.
[15:53:12] mack: And akin to the old dumb "Is it plugged in" troubleshooting question, the "is selinux getting in the way" question might apply.
[15:56:40] mack: One of the more experienced people here might have more help.
[16:24:36] timoke: I'd like to think that LXC is not the cause because I had it working already – with a different hostname
[17:03:32] mkbloke: timoke: when you said you changed the hostname, did you do that via mythconverg_restore.pl? I've not done it myself, but perhaps this is relevant: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_a . . . d_or_backend if you have not already performed this step.
[17:06:44] timoke: It was other way around: The hostname of the working QEMU installation is mythmbe. Then I created the LXC container for test and named it mythmbe2. Then I made the backup, shut down mythmbe, started mythmbe2, changed its hostname mythmbe and restored the backup.
[17:13:48] timoke: And I checked configuration files, /home/mythtv/.mythtv/config.xml and /etc/mythtv/config.xml for dangling references to mythmbe2
[18:17:41] timoke: Maybe I shall start all over again
[19:32:34] mkbloke: I see. The new install is the same version as the previous one? Can you telnet from FE to BE machine for ports 6543 and 6544? If you start the FE from a command line and enable verbose logging do you get any errors logged to the terminal. Does the whole FE system lock or just mythfrontend application? How long have you left it before killing it? Just wondering if any timeouts might occur if
[19:32:41] mkbloke: you left it a little while? Other than that, I'd be tempted to break out tcpdump/Wireshark and perhaps see what's going on at the network level. Just throwing out thoughts and ideas here...

[20:03:32] timoke: Versions are not exactly the same. Working version in QEMU is 2:34.0+fixes.202505182338.9a083bbe5c~ubuntu22.04.1. The other version in LXC is 2:34.0+fixes.20240210.e3e165a1–0ubuntu6.
[20:04:32] timoke: telnet connects to both ports
[20:06:12] timoke: I tried FE from command line with a few variants of '-v xx' but I didn't know which variant would be most useful or what to look for. I didn't see obvious errors.
[20:11:11] timoke: If you mean the whole desktop computer by "whole FE system" then no, only the FE application freezes. It shows black screen with text "Odota hetki..." (finnish; "wait a moment" in english) and stays there.
[20:15:54] timoke: I have not waited it very long, maybe a minute. When it has been longer in that state (when I have done something else), it may have been that it has awakened when I have killed the BE and started the working QEMU version.
[20:17:17] timoke: Yes, I just tested and it awakened and throwed the "Failed to open remote file" just when I started the working QEMU version.
