[00:00:28] Sabotender: this destructive loop should be banned completely. it should not be allowed to record in the same directory to which live TV streams are being written. There should be a massive warning, or come whatever.
[00:01:58] Sabotender: this is an important issue.
[00:01:58] Sabotender: Apparently, I'm not the only user who had made this configuration...snafu
[00:02:23] mack: Probably not.
[00:02:26] Sabotender: lol. nevertheless, I have a question regarding transcoding, if I may.
[00:02:43] mack: But more config options are usually better than fewer.
[00:04:00] Sabotender: so, what are the best settings to convert these files into a format that results in smaller file sizes, but with little to no loss in quality?
[00:06:00] Sabotender: heh. A warning would have been welcome. have saved some time scratching my head
[00:08:56] mack: I have no idea about the internal transcoder. I had been yanking files out of myth's control previously and using handbrake. I'm not even doing that anymore. Hard drive space is cheap, lol.
[00:09:21] Sabotender: ah but, regarding transcoding, I'm not really asking for anything special I know that lossless converting is not possible. Would just like to maximise disk usage. I wonder if these jobs could be performed while the system is idle, or of low use. I am not certain what sort of processing power is used during that job. marking commercials works automatically for every recording, now that I've fixed the storage directory problem
[00:10:49] mack: Default settings for the transcoder are probably sane
[00:11:29] Sabotender: True. Once I can manage to get this stable, I am definitely going to purchase that 20 TB hard drive.
[00:11:30] Sabotender: With that, I should be golden.
[00:18:48] Sabotender: I may just use the default settings. They are not currently enabled… I wonder if I can transcode all those files that it had not been performed. but handbrake sounds intriguing!
[00:23:42] mack: On modern systems, transcoding shouldn't have to watch until the CPU is idle. The transcode process is niced to low priority, anyway.
[00:26:03] mack: "transcode all those files that it..." <--- does this refer to recording that show up in, well, Recordings, or are they Videos or something?
[00:26:23] mack: If they are in Recordings, you can just fire off a transcode job manually
[00:29:15] mack: s/have to watch/have to wait/

[01:03:46] Sabotender: Oh wow, that it's brilliant news! I will research that method. Perhaps I could use A different format.
