[03:17:41] GWG-: I just solved my commercial cutting problem using comskip on the command line. I have issues extracting the cut list out of mythtv, but was able to rerun commercial scanning with a command line script that just cuts them out of the file.
[03:18:06] GWG-: The issue was trying to watch recordings on the road.
[03:18:23] GWG-: Mythtv is great locally
[03:21:10] GWG-: This makes it much easier to take with me

[16:34:13] Sabotender: !
[16:35:05] Sabotender: I do believe I discovered the solution. These things, including enabling metadata lookup, cannot be set in the web configuration, and must be done in the GUI Frontend setup.
[16:38:03] Sabotender: There is even a method to set the type of commercial detection , and all type had been enabled, which is fine by me. I still wonder if I should assign a custon job to ensure that the commercial detection is active for the recordings.
[16:53:01] mack: commercial detection should run if the setting is on for the recording (or set as default for all recordings)
[16:59:03] mack: in the web interface, you're setting Post Processing options at the bottom of the New Recording Rule or New Recording Template widgets in Recording Rules?

[17:22:26] Sabotender: Mack: Hmm. I ticked the box for commercial flag recordings in the post processing options, in both the Default Recording Profile, and each individual recoring profile, to be certain it had been enabled. Since I had not made any modification to the default recording profiles for the existing recording rules, I was not certain whether or not it would apply to them retroactively.
[17:24:14] Sabotender: I checked the Backend status in the web view, and it always displayed that no jobs were running, so dunno if it had been runing automatically in the background while the programmes were recording.
[17:24:43] Sabotender: *were being recorded.
[17:35:18] mack: yes, it does
[17:36:10] mack: at least I think it does...It's been a while since I dud it, lol.
[17:37:01] mack: it's easy to find out on a completed recording at least

[18:20:08] Sabotender: Yeah, I have my remote set up to change commercial skipping modes, and it never seems to do anything. I really wish the Front and backend log files were better parsed, and easier to read. If they had been grouped into different categories, it would be brilliant. Even more so, if it were available in the web view.

[18:25:15] mack: Hit Z during a recording. It will skip to the next commercial marker if commflagging ran.
[18:28:24] mack: *if commflagging ran and successfully detected commercials :)
[18:29:17] mack: *if commflagging ran and detected *something*
[18:37:10] Sabotender: should I have done this in the frontend GUI?
[19:20:08] mack: yeah, Z in the frontend player is what I'm talking about

[20:39:55] Roklobster: my moinlaw has a vpn to our house and the mythtv app on her googletv. her broadband is 75Mbit down and mine 50Mbit up but responsiveness of the app and spooling up recordings is a bit laggy. Is this typical?
[20:40:51] Roklobster: Sabotender: on the road how snappy is your interaction with your mythtv server? Am I just too used to YT?
[20:45:12] Sabotender: Roklobster: mine is a local stb, where front and backends are on the same device. I do not stream beyond itself. I just access the web interface via intranet.
[20:45:49] mack: Roklobster: yeah, if you're trying to stream broadcast TV without transcoding from MythTV across the internet, especially with some VPNs, you're not going to have a snappy experience.
[20:51:09] Roklobster: yeah it's the raw un-recompressed stream which here can be MP2 or MP4. even at 50mbit upload it's not so hot.
[20:52:04] mack: I'd try setting a transcode job for what she wants to watch.
