[00:27:48] clueminati (clueminati!~clueminat@gateway/tor-sasl/clueminati) has quit (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
[01:33:31] Sabotender: mack: what do you think about mythbuntu?
[01:34:36] mack: As a distro, it is dead and buried, but it lives on as an ubuntu PPA that is highly popular and works well.
[01:35:24] Sabotender: I am not making much progress settting this up. try to run the database creation script, I did nothing except starting miradb client, which then expelled numerous parents from bash
[01:37:58] Sabotender: Well. As long as I can use Cinnamon with Ubuntu... Im really disappointed.
[01:38:01] mack: Maybe my time-saving method I mentioned before would be up your alley.
[01:38:23] mack: Are you installing on a dedicated machine, or your daily desktop?
[01:38:23] Sabotender: ?
[01:39:59] Sabotender: goodness, did I miss something? I'm sorry, I've been going back-and-forth reading wiki, trying to perform configuration, et cetera
[01:40:16] Sabotender: dedicated machine 100%
[01:41:02] mack: what I mentioned before was, if it was a dedicated machine, that I'd install xubuntu, add the mythbuntu ppa, then sudo apt install mythtv. Done.
[01:41:11] Sabotender: Only else I wanted to do is watch youtube things on it
[01:42:13] Sabotender: you don't have to ask me twice. I'm downloading an image for that now, installing immediately.
[01:42:30] Sabotender: lol
[01:49:40] mack: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mythbuntu/34 and sudo apt update when you've got xubuntu like you want.
[01:49:54] mack: then you can install mythtv

[20:53:36] Sabotender: mack: You are a Genius! I was able to reach the mythtv setup from browser.
[20:54:08] Sabotender: I am afraid of fudging things, though 😛
[20:54:27] mack: Not genius. Lazy. :)
[20:55:05] Sabotender: haha lazy is fine. so, do I just filled in general things in these fields?
[20:55:20] mack: actually, I'm not lazy ... it's just these days I just want more time to do things other than mess with installing software.
[20:56:12] mack: The description of the fields as you navigate in them is actually pretty good.
[20:56:23] Sabotender: for me, I was trying to be clever, when I ended up being foolish, in the end, because, this was so simple. Sorry did not try this last night. I had fallen asleep in my workshop
[20:58:03] mack: The wiki also walks through each page of the setup screens with some tips. https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Setup_General
[20:59:14] Sabotender: I am a bit scaryface to look at that again, but, with your encouragement, I will do that now. 😅
[21:00:02] mack: That page is for the first page of setup. It seems there is no navigation at the bottom of the page to the next setup page, but there is a little box in the top right of the page with navigation. This is the second page. https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Setup_Capture_Cards
[21:01:18] mack: If there's something you don't know, or don't have set up yet, you can usually leave it at default or blank and go back and fill it in later.
[21:02:56] Sabotender: I want to get this up and going, because I am very nervous about configuring my new silicondust tuner
[21:03:16] mack: wow, reading through that wiki now. It's much nicer than when I set up mine years ago :)
[21:04:11] Sabotender: really? had it changed any since back then?
[21:26:41] SteveGoodey (SteveGoodey!~steve@host86-143-125-23.range86-143.btcentralplus.com) has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!)
[21:33:19] Sabotender: You may laugh, but I am having a 'ball' going through these configuration steps 😀
[21:53:49] Sabotender: What does it mean about maximum simultaneous jobs to run....what is a job? a recording? In Adjust this according to the power of this backend machine. What are the minimum recommended requirements per job for a machine?
[22:01:58] Sabotender: I am thinking it means how many multiple recordings that should be able to be ran at the same time, is that what it is?
[22:03:00] Sabotender: This homerun 4K from silicondust has, like, 4 embedded tuners inside, I hope that I would be able to utilise all that the hardware is able to use
[22:03:17] Sabotender: use/provide

[22:46:59] Sabotender: mack: apologies for pinging you at this time, I had been studying the interpretation of these configuration questions. What is meant to be an 'underpowered' systwm? can you give me a general processing system requirement, and/or reasonable threshold?
