[16:33:43] Sabotender: mack: I have that hauppauge dual tuner but it had a bad habit of stop working suddenly losing signal, and Wintv crashing excessively, which is why I wanted to try a different USB tuner. so I got the mygica thing but driver issue, lol. Ill bet it would be brilliant otherwise
[16:34:53] mack: I honestly try to avoid USB for things like this. Lots of people have successful results, though.
[16:37:23] Sabotender: hmm this homerunner...it uses ethernet to connect to set top box?
[16:41:07] mack: ethernet to connect to your network that your myth box is on.
[16:53:32] GWG: Anyone had any luck with ATSC3 and mythtv by the way?
[16:54:23] Sabotender: hmmm that 4 tuner 4k thing is about 200 USD.
[16:55:42] Sabotender: Id need to read lots of reviews before I even consider purchasing that thing, though the features seem promising
[16:55:53] GWG: If you don't need atsc3, you can get the cheaper models
[16:56:05] GWG: And atsc3 support is supposedly not all there yet
[16:57:31] Sabotender: yeah, but the multi tuner and 4k is what is catching my interest. I would need something that is stable, and won't putter out like my hauppauge usb dual tuner.
[17:00:05] GWG: I'd like to upgrade someday to the 4k atsc3 tuner... maybe there will be a sale
[17:28:42] Sabotender: mack: okay, you've convinced me. I will purchase a refurbished unit, direct from Silicondust. The one that I mentioned. Hopefully, this will solve my problems, and my frustration, and will work with Mythtv. 😛
[17:29:17] GWG: Are the refurb units cheaper?
[17:29:39] Sabotender: sure are, on ebay.
[17:30:15] GWG: I meant did you notice they were
[17:30:16] mack: There is a little issue with myth and that HDHR Flex. Myth can't distinguish the ATSC 1 and ATSC 3 tuners.
[17:30:20] GWG: I'll go look
[17:30:45] mack: https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&am . . . rt=15#p21670
[17:31:14] GWG: Hmm.. look at how many people want to dump their prime
[17:32:12] mack: also https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Silicondust_HDHomeRun &mdash ; see ATSC 3.0 section
[17:32:20] GWG: FiOS will force me to give up my cable card eventually
[17:33:15] Sabotender: hehe what do you mean? I would not feel too comfortable purchasing a refurbished unit from a possible dodgy merchant. But, since it's coming direct from the manufacturer, I will give it a go.
[17:34:36] GWG: Price isn't discounted enough for me to go refurb
[17:35:17] Sabotender: mack so Mythtv can only detect two simultaneous tuners?
[17:35:34] GWG: The bigger issue with atsc3 is encryption
[17:36:41] Sabotender: oh, well, you would have to consider how long something like this would pay for itself compared if you were paying for a cable television subscription. Mine will be paid off in about three months.
[17:36:45] mack: It's an issue with how ATSC works and how myth has coded things to work (with atsc 1). Work is in progress.
[17:37:10] mack: in that forum thread there is an explanation and work around.
[17:37:53] mack: it looks like a slight pain in the butt, though :)
[17:37:54] Sabotender: ooh, I can deal with works in progress, I really do appreciate this tip on compatible hardware.
[18:27:26] Sabotender: I just hope that you don't mind if I poke you a bit getting it set up when it arrives. I have not had the opportunity to actually use MythTV, but anxious to get it going. 😅
