[02:00:13] gigem: Is Taylor Ralph still around? Several years ago, he changed my smooth, but fixed, ff/rew code to compensate for large GOPs and variable frame rates. It does that but still has some issues at slow, ff/rew speeds (7x for example). I've got an extremely crude patch to address that and would like him to look at it or even refine it.

[12:07:09] hampton: stuarta: Morning. Welcome back.
[12:13:18] stuarta: thanks
[12:13:28] stuarta: it was nice to get away from the keyboard for a while
[12:24:42] hampton: I should try that. :-)
[13:09:51] warpme_: guys: is anybody using current fe master on macos? Last code (built today) takes minutes for refresh of recording list.... definitely last days/week thing as build from weeks ago was working well.

[16:10:33] hampton: OSX builder is still down. Working on it today.
[16:10:43] stuarta: progress :)
[16:14:08] hampton: If its anything like the last attempt, after banging my head on the keyboard for a while I'll give up and go do something else. :-(
[16:14:33] stuarta: i know the feeling
[16:14:59] stuarta: the work on getting the various bits of services api along with upnp/ssdp all working with the new webserver code is fun
[16:16:24] hampton: I can't tell if you mean <emphasis> or <sarcasm>.
[16:16:38] hampton: Hopefully the former.
[16:23:03] stuarta: more likely the latter
[16:30:23] stuarta: fun is definitely sarcasm
[16:46:54] hampton: "Cannot download XCode. Try again later." :-(

[17:14:49] warpme_: osx issue becomes interesting: so slow refresh of recordings list is becasue at refresh fe bombs DB with thousends of queries like this: https://pastebin.com/YZQF13C4
[17:22:08] peterbennett: warpme_: That is strange, does it do the same on linux machines? Perhaps the DB caches better on linux machines?
[17:22:55] peterbennett: warpme_: anyway should net be querying the same thing over and over, especially the settings are cached inside mythtv and should only be queried once
[17:25:08] peterbennett: warpme_: Maybe it does not like your hostname, try a simple hostname like "frontend" see if that helps
[17:27:54] warpme_: peterbennett: no. this is only on macos. and all was ok before upgrade of fe to current master. btw: great work with ffmpeg update. i tested it on 7 different platforms with 5 different decode api. all works ok :-)
[17:28:13] warpme_: (i mean no new bugs noticed :-p )
[18:00:32] warpme_: ok i found it: issue was "vanilla" DBschema ver. for weather & for news. Values were reseted to "vanilla" (value before-any-upgrade) values and this was root cause. I discovered this after confronting them with settings table from backup. Now i recall: i had already such db.schema ver. reset in past: it was by testing 10+ different frontends with turning-off power on them (so there are left orphan DB connections after
[18:00:32] warpme_: each frontend poweroff). When new fe can't connect ( due DB connection limit reached) – such fe makes reset on DB news & weather schema ver. (issue ween on those 2 plugins). For me this is bug...
[18:01:17] warpme_: ween->seen

[21:03:04] gigem: hampton: If I have a variable of typ std::chrono::microseconds (aka std::chrono::duration<long int, std::ratio<1, 100000>), how can I multiply it by some float and keep the same type in a generic manner? The multiply yields a type of std::chrono::duration<float, std::ratio<1, 1000000> which can't be assigned back to the original variable. I know I can cast to std::chrono::microseconds but would
[21:03:06] gigem: like to protect agains someone else chaning the type down the road.

[21:43:11] hampton: Use chronomult from libs/libmythbase/mythchrono.h. By its definition, the result always has to be the same type as the first argument. (The second argument is a double.)
[21:50:56] gigem: hampton: Thanks, I'll look at chronomult. In the interum, I used std::chrono::duration_cast<decltyp(myvar)>(...).
[21:52:32] gigem: BTW, does anyone know why we use float in many places instead of double? From my very, old, C days, there never seemed to be many good reasons to use float except when data space was a major concern.
