[02:06:51] jpabq: freshly built mythbackend fixes/31 segfaults on Centos 8.1 Grumble.
[03:05:32] gigem: jpabq: Why do you punish yourself so? Are you allergic to .deb files?
[03:05:34] gigem: :)
[03:11:02] jpabq: My last job used Debian. I am surpised at how often I use `dnf whatprovides */<somefile>` After much searching, I never found an equivalent to that under Debian, which was very annoying.
[03:12:05] jpabq: mythtv master seems to work under Centos 8.1.
[03:13:29] jpabq: Although, I have not figured out how to get Centos to accept my services file. It claims it doesn't exist. Googling indicates it is probably /actually/ complaining about some dependancy not existing, but I haven't figured that out yet and I am done for the night.

[04:39:54] gigem: jpabq: I don't know what the appoved method is, if there even is one, but I just grep the Contents files. They list all of the files for all of the packages. What I most dislike about CentOS is that I'm always having to go elsewhere to find lhe packages I need or build things myself from source. And that's with considering epel to be part of CentOS. That doesn't happen often to me with Debian.
[04:39:56] gigem: I haven't used Ubuntu all that much but when I have, I haven't found it lacking either.

[16:08:16] jpabq: stuarta: the ansible playlist does not install qt5 under Debian? I am getting qmake-qt5 not found.
[16:11:00] jpabq: Oh — that is what I get for copying my configuration over from a redhat machine.
[16:16:23] stuarta: :-p
[16:19:40] jpabq: Ah. I had forgotten another gripe I have with Debian. Inconsistent package naming.
[16:21:07] stuarta: that's one of the reasons i ended up writing the ansible playbooks
[16:21:23] stuarta: got well an truly sick of trying to keep all those odd name mappings in my head
[16:21:46] jpabq: Should I be trying to use mariadb or mysql for the DB server?
[16:27:10] stuarta: both work
[16:27:36] stuarta: there are conditionals in the code to do the right thing with the right version
[16:27:46] stuarta: not many. 1 iirc

[16:31:29] jpabq: mariadb installs easily. mysql takes more work.
[16:34:04] jheizer: Upgraded to 31 last night. Other than having to finally learn xmltv, it was quick and painless. Nice work all.

[19:24:09] jpabq: gigem: you are able to build the android package under Buster? libm / glibc seems to be too old.
[20:02:28] gigem: jpabq: I use sid. For what is buster's libc too old? Only a very small bit of code should depend on the host's libc. I run buster on a server at work. If you need me to, I can try to build an android package there.
[20:10:38] jpabq: gigem: when building the apk, I get "mythinstall64/qt/bin/qmake: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.29' not found". /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 -> libm-2.28.so , so It looks like it is one minor version too old.
[20:11:49] gigem: jheizer, markk__: Here's what I learned about nvidia's cards. The 16xx line is essentially the low end of the 20xx line with some potentially, significant features left out. The only thing the 1650 has going for it is it doesn't need an extra, pcie power connection. It's slower and more expensive ($150) than than amd's rx 570 ($120–150). The 1650 super is an incremental update to the 1650 and
[20:11:51] gigem: is a better buy — for a small increase in price ($160–170), it has a large performance boost in most cases. It's really more of a 1660 light and compares favorable to the amd rx 580. The 1650s support hevc nvenc but not b frames. To get b frames, you need to go the 1660s or higher ($220+).
[20:13:02] gigem: I wound up getting a 1030 for my immediate needs. If amazon had had a 1660 super with next or second day delivery, I might have gotten one in a moment of weekness. They didn't so I'll wait and watch for sales if I still want one.
[20:13:31] jheizer: gigem: Had me curious and i had some DVDs I needed to shrink. On my 1060 it was nvenc h265 them at 600fps.
[20:14:10] jheizer: Need to run some on my cpu and see how it compares (2700x)
[20:14:17] jheizer: Only DVDs, but still interesting.
[20:14:21] gigem: Yeah, some people said to look for used 10xx cards. That's another option.
[20:14:24] Steve-Goodey: Bloody spammers have got it in for us today!
[20:17:03] gigem: jheizer: Also, most of the movies I'm transocding are from tv. handbrake can use nvenc but only *after* it's used software decoding to detelecine and deinterlace, so wouldn't provide as big of a boost as hoped.
[20:19:13] jpabq: hampton: are you building the Android package on Debian Buster?
[20:55:23] jpabq: mythbackend seems to think my "hostname" is the FQDN, while mythtv-setup and mythfrontend seem to think it is /just/ the hostname. This is causing conflics.
