[00:34:06] peterbennett: markk_: I tested the latest master on Shield – video now looks excellent with mediacodec. Audio fails with LiveTV, AudioTrack, and Dolby Digital enabled. This is very strange since Dolby Digital plays fine with recordings, only fails with LiveTV. I also tried playing back a program from the LiveTV group while it was still recording via another frontend – Dolby Digital works fine in that case. That should be
[00:34:08] peterbennett: equivalent.
[00:34:49] peterbennett: markk_: I don't use LiveTV much so this problem may have been there all along.

[12:02:03] stuarta: KdW: it's been a while since i've looked specifically at the dvbv5 api, but doesn't it work differently than the v3 api?
[12:03:26] stuarta: as in, isn't even the tuning different?
[13:08:15] warpme_: markk_: just need Your expertise: looking on this log: https://pastebin.com/L4sPHzG6 will You say issue is within video decoder or GLES driver? (playback has audio ok but screen is black. OSD on playback however works ok...)
[13:24:01] markk_: warpme_: most likely a driver issue. but enable debug logging (on top of playback) and it will show the drm frame descriptor – which might help.
[13:55:24] warpme_: markk_: thx. indeed it looks like gles issue as test with videodecoder rendering to SDL show picture ok. I'll report to lima guys....

[18:11:21] markk_: markspieth, gigem, peterbennett: so I have a few updates ready to push for mediacodec. I've just started looking at the display side to see if we can support mode switching  – and I came across this:
[18:11:26] markk_: https://developer.android.com/about/versions/ . . . 0#4K-display
[18:12:15] markk_: which seems to suggest that if we switch to a 4k mode and use mediacodec direct rendering – we should get 4k... has anyone tried it?
[18:12:53] markk_: not sure if that got phased out with later versions?

[18:32:10] peterbennett: markk_: I can try the 4k display with a 4k video and let you know
[18:39:02] markk_: peterbennett: how good is your eyesight? :) my shield reports it is using 1080p for the GUI but the television reports 4K. can't check at the moment though as shield is in the geek den :)

[19:32:11] peterbennett: markk_: I have a 4k recording with some very small writing at the bottom that gets distorted if playing at 1080
[19:58:40] gigem: markk_: Cool. My eyssight's not good, though, so I'll defer to peterbennett on that.
[20:09:07] peterbennett: markk_ gigem: Sad news – 4K video is not really displayed in 4K, it is being resized to 1080. I tested latest mythfrontend on both shield and fire stick 4K.
[20:11:12] peterbennett: markk_: I compared the video displayed against leanback (my pure android frontend). The small print at the bottom of the screen is jagged with mythfrontend but razor sharp with leanfront.
[20:12:49] gigem: Bummer. Maybe markspieth's changes to use newer sdk/ndk will help.
[20:13:32] peterbennett: Go to https://github.com/bennettpeter/android-MythTV-Leanfront for details, it works very well now.

[22:42:04] gigem: peterbennett: Was that intended for me? 4k really isn't a need for me right now. My main TV is FHD. The TV in my office is 4k but I only use it testing and background noise when I'm working on the computer. Also, Leanfront is missing way too many, must-have, frontend features for me. FYI, it also looks like Leanfront doesn't support playback from slave backends.
[22:44:36] peterbennett: gigem: I don't know much about slave backends :( They could probably be made to work.
[22:46:37] peterbennett: gigem: Anyway I will keep on plugging away at it. I suppose real LiveTV support is important. I don't know about program listings and setting recordings.
[22:48:41] gigem: peterbennett: I don't understand the how or where the decision is made (the storage group code is like "maze of twisty little passages" but either the frontend either determines when to stream from a slave or the master backend does and gives the frontend the correct myth:// URL.
[22:49:48] gigem: Eventually, you'll have a complete, frontend replacement! :)
[22:50:06] peterbennett: gigem: It may work if the slave backend supports the http service API.
[22:52:26] peterbennett: Or rather I may be able to make it work if the slave backend supports the http api
[22:56:44] gigem: It probably does support an http api BUT BE WARY. I suspect if you ask the slave for anything that only the master can do/knows, you will likely get weird or incorrect results. I haven't looked but you should be able to get the backend host name from querying the recordings list. You might not be able to get the slave backend's port numbers, though. That would be a problem if it's using
[22:56:47] gigem: non-standard ones.

[23:02:10] peterbennett: gigem: Anyway if you let me know what are the important features I can look at it.
[23:10:29] gigem: I checked and the backend, host name is included in the recordings list but I don't see any direct way to get a backend's and port number. You'd have to use apriori knowledge of the schema and the raw, GetSettings() api call.
[23:15:44] gigem: My must-have, frontend features are very, fast skips; real fast-forward/rewind; timestretch; playback groups; manual, picture move; and most of that directly accessible from remote buttons without using an OSD. I don't expect you (or anyone) to cater to those wishes, but if you do, we'll see. :)

[23:34:58] peterbennett: gigem: Hmmm. Timestretch with exoplayer only works with certain types of audio, does not work with AC3 passthru.
[23:36:18] peterbennett: gigem: I think I have the picture move, stretch, aspect covered.
[23:37:13] peterbennett: My remote only has 3 buttons so not sure what remote you are using.
[23:45:46] peterbennett: gigem: As far as slave backends are concerned, I already have a place to set the master backend port number, the user would have to set the slave backend port also if it was not standard, or we could add an API to get it. I am avoiding any MythTV database access in leanfront.
