[13:31:33] peterbennett: markk_: There are no radio streams available here but I can try with a recording from one that I got from the UK. With radio streams MythTV generates a fake blank video stream to allow playback, not sure how that works with video render.
[13:50:20] stuarta: i wonder if the response to input is tied to the rendering of a video frame....

[16:09:08] markk_: peterbennett: yes – but not for long – it's only a relic of needing a frame for the blended osd. opengl doesn't use it (just ignores dummy frames). but android is clearly deciding there's nothing playing.
[16:18:38] peterbennett: The code checks for input before each video frame. If there are few or no video frames there is no response to input.
[16:20:02] peterbennett: For example – Comcast Music Choice displays a frame every 16 seconds, and the response to keyboard input is very slow.
[16:20:24] markk_: they're simply not displayed – everything else is handled normally (and the display is still flipping). works fine on desktop etc – just funny with android
[16:23:09] markk_: peterbennett: for that case (which is mad:!) – I would force extra event processing – and ensure at least 10–15 p/s
[16:34:18] peterbennett: markk_: It is sub-optimal, but I just wanted to get it to work with minimum code changes since it is a small number of people that use it.

[19:09:37] jr3us: Greetings! peterbennett : I am trying to use the mythtv packages for raspberry pi and it looks like the current packages on peterbennetts binary repository appear to net be linked with libhdhomerun libraries. I can't use my hdhr tuners with it. Ideas?
[19:14:49] markk_ (markk_!~mark@host86-159-211-173.range86-159.btcentralplus.com) has joined #mythtv
[19:28:10] peterbennett: jr3us: I never had intended a backedn to be run on raspberry pi
[19:28:16] peterbennett: backend
[19:28:50] jr3us: Ah ok. Could it be recompiled to add the hdhomerun?
[19:29:01] jr3us: It was in 29
[19:30:29] peterbennett: jr3us: Previously the hdhomerun libs were in the MythTV repository, then they were removed and are now installed from the distribution instead.
[19:31:03] jr3us: Right, and I do have the hdhome run libs installed on it
[19:31:43] jr3us: When I do --version on it, they aren't included.
[19:32:45] peterbennett: they are not explicitly disabled in the configure
[19:33:20] peterbennett: probably if they had been present when I compiled they would be used .
[19:33:26] jr3us: So just having libhdhomerun installed is all that is needed?
[19:35:06] peterbennett: Strange – it looks like they are included in the dependencies so it should have worked
[19:35:25] jr3us: i have libhdhomerun-dev as well as libhdhomerun3 installed
[19:35:54] peterbennett: Maybe I did not have the dev before I built
[19:36:23] jr3us: possible
[19:36:55] jr3us: Just did a --version, and no hdhomerun mentioned in the options
[19:37:21] jr3us: Using 60cfb7c05a
[19:37:41] peterbennett: You can do a build of mythtv-light if you want to
[19:38:10] jr3us: Ok. I'll try that

[19:38:19] peterbennett: there are instructions in https://github.com/MythTV/packaging/tree/master/deb-light
[19:38:24] jr3us: thanks
[19:39:05] peterbennett: I will check on it sometime ...
[19:39:23] jr3us: You recall about how long to build on a pi3?
[19:39:56] peterbennett: Also look at the wiki page on building it for the dependencies.
[19:40:31] peterbennett: On a pi3 it takes several hours the first time, after that it goes quicker.
[19:40:39] jr3us: Ok, thx
[19:42:27] jr3us: Which parts of GitHub/Mythtv do I need? Just packaging and mythtv beneath?
[19:42:50] jr3us: Never mind. I see now
[19:44:56] peterbennett: Does it really work to run the backend on raspberry pi?
[19:45:21] peterbennett: Do you run the database also on the same raspberry pi as the backend?
[19:46:34] jr3us: I did some testing with 29, and an external usb HD, and with both tuners enabled, I was able to record around 15mbps from each tuner and save to usb hd as the recordings directory
[19:46:40] jr3us: Yes the db is on it as well
[19:46:50] peterbennett: Maybe the ansible does not install the homerun dev libs?
[19:47:21] jr3us: Do the mythtv-light shell scripts use sensible?
[19:47:38] peterbennett: sensible?
[19:47:53] peterbennett: I don't know what that is
[19:48:06] jr3us: Gahh.... ansible... typo correction did that. :-)
[19:48:41] peterbennett: The scripts do not use ansible, but I use ansible to install dependencies before I start
[19:49:46] peterbennett: Build is quicker is you use a hard drive rather than the sd card
[19:50:13] jr3us: Maybe libhdhomerun needs to be added to the mythtv_config_opt_extra?
[19:50:16] peterbennett: when building reduce the gpu memory to the minimum
[19:50:26] jr3us: I can do that
[19:50:55] peterbennett: you can try adding it, if that works I can update the script to include it by default
[19:51:39] jr3us: I currently have the mythbe set for 64Mb
[19:51:44] jr3us: For video
[19:52:17] jr3us: So I would just add --enable-libhdhomerun  ?
[19:53:14] peterbennett: I am not sure of the correct format, run configure --help to see
[19:54:58] jr3us: ok
[19:56:35] jr3us: interesting.. in configure, there is a --disable-hdhomerun, but no enable-hdhomerun
[19:56:54] peterbennett: should be enabled by default if the libs are there
[19:58:34] peterbennett: I see that I did not have the libhdhomerun installed
[19:58:42] jr3us: I did some additional sleuthing...
[19:58:44] jr3us: Ah ok
[19:58:55] peterbennett: It looks like that was added to ansible but I never reran ansible to get it
[19:59:19] jr3us: On my production be, libhdhomerun-dev and libhdhomerun4 is installed. It is a ubuntu 18.04
[19:59:46] jr3us: On the rpi raspbian , libhdhomerun-dev and libhdhomerun3
[20:01:03] jr3us: I won't mess with the env variable config opt extra
[20:01:14] jr3us: And see what happens. :-)
