[19:01:17] hampton: A couple of weeks ago I got frustrated that I couldn't easily tell local variables from member variables while working through some bit of code. Thought that I would clean things up to use the 'm_' prefix convention that is used by lots of the code. Didn't realize how big a job it would be until I was well into it. Once I realized how many header files I was touching, it seemed to make sense to also convert classes to the C++11 initia

[19:05:38] markk_: hampton: but what do we gain from c++11 initialisers? are they/will they be mandatory? I like to be able to look at a header file and understand how it works/looks/feels. I don't want it clogged up with implementation (i.e. actual code), needless comments and initialisers. I also want all of my initialisers in one place – then I can see that everything is covered.
[19:14:05] hampton: You can specify the default value for a member in the header file. Then on the constructor you only need to specify non-default values. In cases where there are multiple constructors that are mostly default values, this can simplify the code significantly.

[19:20:20] hampton: I think the compiler also does some inlining tricks during object construction if all the default values are specified in the header file, or if the constructor is simple enough that it can be put into the header file.
[19:23:35] warpme_: markk_: You are master regarding needs of USING_OPENGLES – but pls keep in mind setups like: rpi with gles blobs (so no desktop gl) or any arm SoC with i.e. mali 450 blobs (which are providing only gles2). Qt indeed will abstract this so if myth can auto-detec at run-time avaliable gl level – then this will be perfect...

[19:39:54] hampton: I'm pretty sure that if you don't fully specify the initializer, then all unspecified fields are set to 0. That should let you specify {0} for a structure and get it zero filled. (Doesn't work for filling with any other value though.) Can't find anything that explicitly says that on https://en.cppreference.com, but there are examples where it says the extra array items are initialized to zero.
