[02:21:52] gigem: markspieth: I pushed my subtitles workaround. I had also changed makelibs.sh to keep from building fontconfig but the resulting app crashed on launch. As long as you intend to eventually get fontconfig working, it's probably okay to leave it in. If you change your mind, though, we should figure out the crash and fix it.

When jumping around, even a larger value does not "recover" as quick as the old A/V sync code. I wanted the new

[21:44:03] stuarta: jpabq: since you were asking, my nvme drive issues appear to have been because of lack of heatsink on the drive, so it was overheating and shutting down

[22:02:14] stuarta: what have we set the minimum Qt version to?
[22:02:34] stuarta: i think for mark's branch we need to move to 5.4
[22:03:06] stuarta: yeah 5.3
[22:04:05] stuarta: debian jessie only has 5.3, however stretch is the current release, and buster is going into change freeze, so now is as good a time as any to make 5.4 the minimum
[22:05:28] gary_buhrmaster: As I recall that announcement said it was targeted towards gamers (I presume because they tend to push their systems). I guess gamers have nothing on stuarta's buildbot-workers.
[22:06:35] hampton: I have a patch to bump the version to 5.5. Should I commit it?
[22:08:20] stuarta: hampton: why 5.5. out of interest?
[22:08:34] SteveJGoodey (SteveJGoodey!~quassel@2a00:23c5:7da3:4501:6178:72e5:ab9:e993) has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[22:08:58] hampton: It was the next version used by any of the releases. Centos has 5.5.1
[22:09:09] stuarta: gary_buhrmaster: with markk_'s current development work on opengl we are starting to leverage more of Qt's opengl stuff. stuff which could technically fall under "gaming"
[22:10:39] hampton: The version after that would be 5.7.1 on stretch.
[22:10:54] stuarta: hampton: drop it into markk_'s branch. that can be our break point for jessie support
[22:11:22] hampton: k
[22:11:35] gary_buhrmaster: I thought Centos was 5.9.2 (well, when fully updated).
[22:12:10] hampton: That was from memory. The commit says that was for 16.04.
[22:12:39] stuarta: gary_buhrmaster: correct, centos7 builder says 5.9.2
[22:12:41] hampton: If we're dropping support for 16.04 too, we could bump up to 5.7.
[22:14:29] stuarta: unless we *need* something from that, there's not a lot of point
[22:15:55] stuarta: according to smolt data 16.04 is *still* the top distro in use
[22:16:34] stuarta: followed by 18.04, then 14.04, 12.04, 18.10, 12.04.5.....
[22:16:48] hampton: I see two conditionals based on qt5.4, one on qt 5.5, and one on qt 5.6. Bumping to qt5.7, the lowest version required by a supported os, would let us remove those.
[22:17:08] hampton: Ack, but if master is targeting ubuntu lts, that's 18.04.
[22:18:42] hampton: I have two patches sitting around. One to bump qt 5.3->5.5, the other to bump 5.5->5.7. I can commit one or both, whichever the group wants.
[22:19:42] stuarta: the official line is lts, and latest, however unless we actually *use* something and require it from a newer qt, then there is no point bumping it too far forward
[22:19:57] ** stuarta goes to review Qt conditional **
[22:20:05] gary_buhrmaster: As I recall there were a number of ifdefs that dealt with some special cases for < 5.8, and I presume no one wants to continue writing those workarounds moving forward. Unfortunately that would leave stretch out...
[22:20:31] stuarta: stretch, right now is the current debian
[22:20:42] hampton: stretch == raspbian
[22:20:46] stuarta: yep
[22:21:12] gigem: Is anyone familiar with the socket/filetransfer/ringbuffer code? I have a deadlock where RingBuffer::Start() gets stuck waiting for something that apparently never happens while holding sockListLock. I think this is the same problem that's been biting me at least once a week for some time now.
[22:21:54] stuarta: man there are a crap load of version checks for Qt5.8
[22:23:16] stuarta: ah, that's for API changes to make the code forward compatible
[22:23:55] hampton: I think we're forward compatible to 5.11. I was just looking at changes in 5.12.
[22:27:27] stuarta: so neither 19.04 nor rawhide contain Qt5.12
[22:27:36] stuarta: so we are good on that front for now
[22:27:38] hampton: arch has it
[22:28:50] stuarta: i was just going to check that ;-)
[22:31:40] stuarta: clearly that builder is out of date then. still listing 5.11.2

[22:36:25] ** hampton installs debian10 **
[22:36:59] jpabq: peterbennett: thanks!
[22:38:19] stuarta: hampton: buster? i got one of them too. had it about 4hrs ;-)
[22:38:47] stuarta: hampton: can also add yours to the build network

[22:58:08] stuarta: hampton: if you want to add it to the build network, use the passwd from your f28/f29 builders
[22:58:39] hampton: k
[23:00:07] stuarta: if you don't, i already have one up on my laptop
[23:03:26] hampton: I have a bunch of vms I could add, but I want to move my main backend off that system first.

[23:07:22] stuarta: no rush
[23:09:29] stuarta: ffs broken packages in the archlinux repos
[23:09:38] stuarta: which makes it pretty much impossible to update
[23:36:42] gigem: Now that the qt discussion has died down, I'll ask again. Is anyone familiar with the socket/filetransfer/ringbuffer code?
[23:37:39] peterbennett: gigem: I may have made some changes there for mediacodec
[23:38:28] gigem: peterbennett: I'm pretty sure I was seeing this problem even before v30.
[23:39:49] peterbennett: gigem: I increased a timeout so as to allow receiving many frames from a single packet.
[23:42:42] gigem: That sound like the client side. This problem is on the server side.
[23:43:08] peterbennett: gigem: Actually I think maybe it was in videobuffers
[23:43:30] gigem: I'm going to add -v filetransfer to get some more logging the next time it occurs but I'd prefer to figure it out before it happens again.
[23:46:31] gigem: I think sockListLock is being held longer than it should be but I'm not at all familiar with that code.
[23:46:54] peterbennett: What are you doing at the time?
[23:48:55] peterbennett: gigem: Yes sorry it was videobuffers I changed to increae the timeout, not ringbuffer
[23:49:59] gigem: Starting playback of an in-progress recording. Something in the ringbuffer thread never starts and leaves the master socket lock held. That prevents all future requests from frontends along with many other operations from running.
[23:50:22] gigem: peterbennett: Okay.
[23:51:08] peterbennett: I have not had that problem, I watch in progress recordings almost every day., or at least Monday – Friday.
