[19:54:25] jpabq: For those of you with shields: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/ . . . app-released
[20:02:51] gigem: jpabq: Cool. That should eliminate the occasional need for a mouse. Have you seen anything else of significance to us regarding the new release? I read something yesterday or Sunday but it was sound all focused on gaming related featues like in-game, voide chats and such.
[20:06:41] peterbennett: The last update broke mythfrontend, I hope this one does not
[20:06:52] Warped (Warped!~Warped@unaffiliated/warped) has joined #mythtv
[20:08:45] gigem: Fix some bugs. Create some bugs. It keeps things interesting! :)
[20:12:35] peterbennett: I just found that new raspbian versions break mythtv on raspberry pi.
[20:19:40] gigem: More progress!
[20:20:19] gigem: At least I'm making a tiny bit of real progress on the slow resume issue.
[20:32:59] jpabq: gigem: I have not even used myth for over a week. I will be visiting my sister in a couple of weeks, and hope to set it up on her Shield at that time. She got a little NUC that is already running linux and I hope to use it for the backend.
[20:34:01] jpabq: gigem: speaking of resume, have you looked into the abort when you leave a show paused for too long? That is very annoying, but I have not had time to investigate.
[20:34:35] peterbennett: I installed mythfrontend on my phone. It works but you need a remote, the touchscreen does weird stuff with MythTV
[20:35:52] jpabq: My 3 year old Nexus 5X only has 3G of RAM and 32G of storage. I serisouly doubt it would run at all. At this point it is barely able to run google maps and navigate.
[20:37:27] jpabq: peterbennett: I hope to update Steppes to look better on the Shield. I am guessing it is the scaling 4K->1080 or something, but it looks "weak" on the Shield.
[20:39:01] jpabq: There is a bug in the OpenGL painter, where the 'line' (border) around a 'shape' is drawn indented into the shape, by the size of the border. I need to track that down, too. That could be part of the problem.
[20:39:26] davic (davic!~davic@unaffiliated/davic) has quit (Quit: ZNC - http://znc.in)
[20:39:27] peterbennett: jpabq: I noticed some of the buttons tend to overlap in teh recording list, but nothing serious
[20:40:58] peterbennett: The OpenGL on shield may have some differences, for example the green line we were getting at the bottom of some videos
[20:41:18] peterbennett: I am afraid OpenGL is still rather a mystery to me.
[20:42:36] jpabq: I have not looked at OpenGL in a very long time, and I was never an expert. Too bad Stuart Morgan went and got himself a job — he was good at that stuff :-D
[20:44:48] gigem: jpabq: Amazingly, mythfrontend runs on a first generation, Fire TV with 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB or ROM.
[20:45:20] jpabq: My first generation Fire TV dies after about 20 minutes of use, watching Amazon Prime.
[20:46:05] gigem: jpabq: Since switching to primarily Shields, I have not run into the long pause exit. I think I mentioned it to peterbennett but I don't think a ticket ever got opened for it.
[20:46:35] jpabq: I will have to check to see if it is still happening to me.
[20:48:26] gigem: I haven't tried running the Fire TV for that long. It was mainly just to see if it worked and verify that a 32-bit build ran. My Mecool used to be my 32-bit test platform but it didn't work too well. I have a new ROM for it but haven't had the time to update it.

[22:10:19] gigem: Why does mythfilldatabase with tv_grab_zz_sdjson_sqlite keep notifying me with lines like "Unknown xmltv channel identifier: I108349.json.schedulesdirect.org – Skipping channel."? Rather than delete and recreate my channels, I updated channel.xmltv manually based on the old, Data Direct, xmltvid (108349 in this case). Is that wrong. The program data is getting populated so it's not fatal.

[22:51:17] peterbennett: gigem: I use sqlite3 to mark the channels that I don't want , so that they are not downloaded by tv_grab_zz_sdjson_sqlite
[22:53:25] peterbennett: I keep getting notices about Amazon Fire TV on sale for $25. That would be a really low price frontend?
[23:01:30] gigem: peterbennett: I know that can be done, but I'm trying to follow Gary's instructions and, if I understood correctly, he recommends not doing that. My immediate goal is to just get it working. After that, I want to test out how to get Silicon Dust's Premium TV guide data working. Eventually, I'd like to use Gary's script in some way to improve MythTV's channel management for Schedules Direct and Silicon Dust
[23:01:31] gigem: users. Between the two SDs, nearly all of the information to do that is available.
[23:02:21] peterbennett: We really need some reasonable GUI for selecting channels, the one by one is too painful
[23:02:41] gigem: peterbennett: That $25 Fire TV is the current "Stick" version. As I understand it, it's not very powerful. It might work as well as an Rpi but probably no better if it works at all.
[23:03:53] peterbennett: Well I will give it a shot. at least we can still use it for watching amazon
[23:05:44] gigem: That, I'm sure it's good for.
[23:05:51] ** gigem heads home **
