[00:48:27] tonsofpcs: also, bug for v29, updated from 0.27.2, had some channels still with absolute paths to icon images, webfrontend wouldn't show them. Switched them to just the image name in the database, all works now (after a backend restart)
[00:48:39] tonsofpcs: oh, wait, nevermind
[00:48:43] tonsofpcs: those paths didn't exist
[00:48:45] tonsofpcs: I read them wrong.

[12:57:32] markspieth: I had to let the shield update and then it worked with no change. Wierd.
[13:11:56] peterbennett: gigem: I am aware of the problem with subtitles and mediacodec. It is the same with Raspberry Pi OpenMAX. Any suggestions are welcome. Previously I have recommended either using software decoding or running a subtitle extract and using external subtitles, which works fine except for LiveTV
[13:12:34] stuarta: peterbennett: what's the fundamental issue? no way to mix the subtitles into the display frame, or something else?
[13:12:38] peterbennett: gigem: I can take a look at the long press problem.
[13:13:21] peterbennett: stuarta: USA Broadcast subtitles are somehow embedded in the mpeg stream.
[13:13:53] stuarta: interesting
[13:13:56] peterbennett: stuarta: FFmpeg gives them to us in an extra data field
[13:14:21] peterbennett: subtitles on videos dvd etc are separate streams and they are fine
[13:22:55] markspieth: subtitles are multiplexed in all ts streams if present and also mkv files.
[13:27:18] peterbennett: markspieth: Any way of extracting them for display?
[13:29:00] stuarta: sounds like the extraction isn't the problem if ffmpeg gives the data back
[13:33:10] peterbennett: but for mediacodec it does not give the data back
[13:33:20] stuarta: ah

[14:47:09] markspieth: peterbennett: might need to reinstate the separate demux. That way the subtitle stream is handled independently to the A/V streams
[14:47:37] markspieth: I know you switched to the ffmpeg demux recently.
[14:48:06] markspieth: Maybe aman has some ideas on ffmpeg usage in this scenario

[15:24:53] gigem: peterbennett: I didn't realize the decoding was done in hardware. How is/was it done with vdpau? It still works fine with vdpua on v29. Or is this a consequence of ffmpeg 4.x and hardware decoding?
[15:25:54] peterbennett: I don't know what is done with vdpau. As far as I know it just works and is all sorted out by ffmpeg.
[15:26:15] gigem: peterbennett: One more note. The mixing of two, interlaced frames during ff/rew seems more pronounced than before with the committed changes. That's not a complaoint, just an observation. I know it will get fixed eventually.
[15:27:31] peterbennett: gigem: I thought that only happened with jump not with FF. Is it happening on both or just ff ?
[15:28:36] gigem: I thought so too, but, as I said, it was very pronounced yesterday.
[15:29:09] peterbennett: Is it happening on Jump, FF or both?
[15:30:56] gigem: I don't recall seeing it on jumps, just on ff/rew.
[15:31:34] peterbennett: gigem: ff/rew is a mess anyway with the illegalstateexceptions
[15:31:55] peterbennett: if it is not sorted out I will change to use software decoding for ff/rew
[15:32:28] peterbennett: markspieth: We are using libavformat for demuxung, same as always
[15:33:08] gigem: peterbennett: I know.
[15:33:42] peterbennett: I am not sure if the subtitle processing is done by some customization of ffmpeg by MythTV.
[15:34:48] peterbennett: I am sorting out the crash (segfault) that happens every time you change appearance settings.
[15:39:31] gigem: peterbennett, markspieth: I had a pebkac the other day. android:noHistory does do what it claims — cause the app to be restarted in almost all cases when it is resumed. I'm still looking for a happy medium where short resumes are allowed, but longer ones result in a restart instead.
[15:41:49] stuarta: set timer, shutdown on expiry?
[15:45:13] peterbennett: gigem: when would one want to navigate away from Mythfrontend on android and then come back?
[15:46:21] peterbennett: gigem: I think it is not common. Even on other systems if you navigate away it carries on running, but do people really do that and expect something different?
[15:47:16] peterbennett: I think shutting down if they press the home button is fine.
[15:48:21] stuarta: i know i do that with various apps, and it's fairly easy to do by accident on a phone
[15:59:59] gigem: stuarta: I believe extra, non-trivial stuff has to be setup for an android app to run in the background. IOW, when the app is paused, it can't service a timer because it's not running.
[16:01:39] gigem: peterbennett: I would expect almost everyone to want mythtv to resume where it was as long as it doesn't take more than a few seconds. And as stuarta said, accidentally hitting the home button and causing restart would be annoying.

[22:16:15] markspieth: gigem: yes agree, resume from where you left off, paused if was playing. Android does reap memory if necessary and with mythtv being such a tasty (lots of mem) target, I expect that to happen if you run a few things. Then it would have to restart or if ambitious, restart and jump to last screen. A bookmark on pause if playing may be nice to have too.

[22:42:35] gigem: peterbennett: I saw the multiple frame with jumps today. Also, I think Aman mentioned a way to control the deinterlacing on the shield It's probably nonstandard and possibly even undocumented. It's not a general solution, but maybe that could help with ff/rew.
