[07:50:49] stuarta: smoothifier: so to clarify, the recording path in the backend has nothing todo with libva. the *only* use for libva is in the frontend, and only when playing back content using vaapi
[07:56:03] stuarta: backend logs may help to understand why it's aborting, but most likely a full gdb backtrace would be required

[09:38:58] smoothifier: stuarta: ok then. i probably should have known you'd need a full backtrace. I'll get one of those this morning. I do have a thread on the mythtv-users' list https://lists.gt.net/mythtv/users/616820 but maybe the whole world doesn't need to see that bt anyway. I'll add the debug packages this morning and send it to you. Thank you very much!
[09:41:29] stuarta: smoothifier: can you open a ticket in trac to track it please?
[09:42:41] stuarta: smoothifier: please also take a look at https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Debugging#Getting_a_Backtrace to get a sensible backtrace
[09:42:41] smoothifier: stuarta: absolutely. I wasn't sure it merited such before (will be my first mythtv ticket). I just have to hook up the ethernet cables and such. I should have it done in an hour or so.
[09:42:58] smoothifier: stuarta: will do. thank you very much.
[09:43:22] stuarta: so you can either 1) start the backend under gdb or 2) attach gdb to the running backend
[09:44:01] stuarta: the key bits are getting the backtrace from all processes (thread apply all bt full) as well as those few lines when gdb says where it died and why

[09:44:30] smoothifier: I usually start the backend with a systemctl service. should I just start it from the command line under gdb? that's what i've done for other processes before.
[09:45:05] stuarta: start it as normal then do https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Debugging#Attachi . . . ning_process
[09:45:13] smoothifier: ok i'll do that
[09:45:40] stuarta: if that doesn't work, then revert to starting it under gdb
[09:46:16] nephyrin (nephyrin!~neph@67.183.153.159) has joined #mythtv
[09:46:22] stuarta: then you should end up with a gdb.txt file with the data we need
[09:47:12] smoothifier: sure no worries. I'll do it right now. I'm not expecting immediate service or anything!
[09:48:24] smoothifier: thanks again. i'll get on that now. just need a banana for starters. :)

[10:57:14] smoothifier: stuarta: https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13254 created, thanks again for your help. just adding the mythtv-debuginfo as shown on the wiki: I'm not sure that was enough because rpmfusion breaks down the debug info by package, so I installed the whole lot of them just to be safe.
[11:09:00] ** stuarta scratches head **
[11:17:14] stuarta: it's like we are getting an empty PMT to process, almost like the tuner never locked on
[11:17:55] smoothifier: that is what the log said. or something of that nature. i have pastebins of those linked on the email thread. i can attach them if you want
[11:18:26] stuarta: backend logs? please add to the ticket
[11:18:33] smoothifier: yes doing so now
[11:19:55] stuarta: btw i suspect you are confusing 2 different acronyms for DRM. 1 referrs to copy protections, the other is used in the graphics pipeline to get data to graphics hardware
[11:20:20] stuarta: libva relates to the 2nd type, what the broadcasters are doing, relates to the first type
[11:21:00] smoothifier: I guess what I mean to say is that the so called "premium" channels are the issue in my case
[11:21:24] stuarta: more and more so, unfortunately
[11:21:58] smoothifier: ok i'm just making a text file to upload. it's on my pastebin
[11:23:35] smoothifier: ok it's on there now. Sorry, I should have posted it beforehand
[11:25:51] stuarta: so all the streams are encrypted, and if all those are removed, you will be left with no streams
[11:27:01] smoothifier: the thing is, if I install the F27 rpms, everything works. I guess there aren't any CCI flags on the channel.
[11:27:21] smoothifier: I'm out of my depth here. :)
[11:27:38] stuarta: what's the version here?
[11:27:45] smoothifier: 28
[11:27:47] stuarta: mythbackend --version would be sufficient
[11:27:55] smoothifier: well i have to reboot
[11:28:03] smoothifier: i have that output wait hold on

[11:29:19] smoothifier: oh i thought you meant fedora version
[11:29:22] smoothifier: yes it's 28
[11:29:25] smoothifier: 29 sorry
[11:30:54] stuarta: so there are no actual code changes in the code causing the abrt
[11:31:24] smoothifier: i believe the code version from the f28 and f27 rpms is the same, yes
[11:34:38] stuarta: looking at rpmfusion, both f27 and f28 use the following mythtv-29.1–15.20180228.8.g925ceea0fb
[11:34:51] stuarta: so it's the exact same mythtv version in both repos
[11:36:16] smoothifier: yes, that's what I've seen. I had the problem after doing a distribution upgrade to f28 from f27. so I backed off and made a test machine, and still had the problem, and I've been spinning my wheels ever since.
[11:36:39] stuarta: so the system seeing the issue is on f27 or f28?
[11:36:50] smoothifier: on F28. both systems
[11:36:59] smoothifier: the F27 machine is using F27 right now
[11:37:01] smoothifier: happily
[11:38:10] smoothifier: I made the test F28 system to rule out any issues I may have caused by an upgrade.
[11:41:09] smoothifier: the only thing I can think of, and I may be wrong, is that the supporting libraries are causing the issue, or maybe the libraries which mythtv was compiled against.
[11:58:04] stuarta: can you share the backend logs trying to record the same channel with the f27 variant
[12:02:16] smoothifier: yes. just have to do that now
[12:02:26] stuarta: same log level as the f28 logs
[12:02:31] smoothifier: that was channel 907 i believe?
[12:02:39] smoothifier: I have a log for channel 937 if that will do
[12:02:43] smoothifier: same log level
[12:03:04] smoothifier: but i can grab #907 if that is better
[12:03:04] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/907 **
[12:03:42] stuarta: it was 907 afaict
[12:04:00] smoothifier: i think so. okay give me a few minutes.
[12:04:54] stuarta: np, i popping out to get some lunch anyway
[12:20:12] smoothifier: stuarta: I realized that 907 is in fact a channel I cannot get on my F27 backend (I may have deleted it?) I submitted the logs for channel 937 on F27 and F28 (success and failure). Enjoy your lunch!

[13:34:25] stuarta: smoothifier: the f27 version is managing to decrypt the channels, the f28 version is not
[13:35:07] smoothifier: stuarta: that's what I suspected.
[13:35:39] smoothifier: of course, I'm not sure how I can help fix it
[13:35:58] stuarta: now the rpmfusion rpms aren't to my knowledge doing anything dubious to facilitate the decryption
[13:37:07] stuarta: which begs the question how is it managing to decrypt them, when the code version is exactly the same
[13:38:44] stuarta: equally the code shouldn't crash when there are no available streams in the output
[13:39:46] smoothifier: I thought that the decryption was done by the hdhomerun prime and the cable card attached to it? but I really have no idea.
[13:40:08] stuarta: are both these instances using the same database?
[13:40:26] smoothifier: yes, they are on a fresh, nearly empty database
[13:41:16] smoothifier: I just ran the machine again and I have fresh pastes if you care to look. I can put them on pastebin. I think they'll show the same thing, however
[13:43:21] smoothifier: I just have -v playback, record selected. should I add more verbosity?

[13:47:03] stuarta: don't know if that would help
[14:02:03] kwizart: smoothifier, the main diff between f27 and 28 rpms are the gcc version used (gcc-8.0.x for tha latter)
[14:04:24] smoothifier: kwizart: maybe that's it, then. Is there a way, I wonder, to build the F28 rpms with mock and using the F27 release of gcc?
[14:04:59] smoothifier: I can try it. But I guess that's not a good fix
[14:05:06] kwizart: smoothifier, if you can have a stacktrace and report to the gcc maintainer in fedora, they are often very re-active (even on packages outside fedora)
[14:05:42] stuarta: kwizart: stack traces are on #13254

[14:06:22] smoothifier: can I use the ones on the ticket?
[14:06:47] stuarta: kwizart: smoothifier i think we would need to reduce it to a simplified reproducer
[14:08:00] kwizart: so, there is no crash ? it just behave not normally
[14:08:08] stuarta: i suspect that'll be a bit of code that tries to reference std::vector<unsigned char>[0]
[14:08:14] stuarta: kwizart: it blows up here https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/blob/master/ . . . les.cpp#L460
[14:08:43] stuarta: and AFAICT from the stacktrace, it's a deref of the vector
[14:08:48] amessina (amessina!~amessina@unaffiliated/amessina) has joined #mythtv
[14:11:50] stuarta: *empty vector

[14:30:35] ooshlablu (ooshlablu!~ooshlablu@65.217.185.138) has joined #mythtv

[14:36:52] smoothifier: well that would explain things. i should have thought of that — i was just looking at the changes in f28 the other day.
[14:37:24] stuarta: mythtv wise, the code is the same
[14:37:47] stuarta: now it just need simplifying to something the gcc maintainers can consume / comment on
