[13:49:07] warpme: hi *
[13:59:52] warpme: After upgrade master from r307 to current head (r328) I see highly decreased BE avaliabilty. Since 2 days of normal usage I had already 3 dealocks where BE stopped answering to FE requests. All 3 cases were durring LiveTV channel change. Here is gdb trace from deadlocked BE: http://pastebin.com/sGAUhEwe and be log around failed channel change: http://pastebin.com/msaBBb0K When BE is deadlocked, fe log says: http://pastebin.com/fXP8EMv1 F
[13:59:52] warpme: me most probable candidate to revert and see is: https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/36e94 . . . 15f5d5e7cdbc If anybody has better candidate – I would love to hear!

[15:12:19] dekarl: warpme: is decrpytion actually relevant in that case? Or are the errors completely nonsense?
[15:14:16] dekarl: and it is a UniCable DVB-S setup?
[15:19:22] warpme: dekarl: those errors are related to decryption. I have CAS system in my setup.
[15:19:48] warpme: dekarl: yes – it is Unicable setup with 4xDVBS2 tuners.
[15:19:56] dekarl: ok, maybe "PMT says program %1 is encrypted" should be moved to a lower verbosity level, to fit the other similar debug information
[15:21:06] warpme: Actually it seems like issue is not in 36e946d74522045302ee2ab543fa15f5d5e7cdbc but rather in https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/34ad1 . . . 17359c1bfc1d
[15:24:48] dekarl: the channel is good old MPEG-2 or AVC/H.264? No fancy HEVC/H.265
[15:25:12] dekarl: Just wondering as the commit mentions something about detected key frames
[15:27:00] dekarl: r307/r328 refer to this number? v29-pre-319-g4e5cf2b – then I'm at 319
[15:28:34] dekarl: after the ringbuffer switch commit and before the SI table rework... let me see what happens when channel surfing
[15:35:41] dekarl: two dozens channel changes with only the issues that are to be expected with bad receiption and hardware decoding ;)
[15:42:16] warpme: dekarl: it looks like issue is https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/34ad1 . . . 7359c1bfc1d. I have now BE with both reverted and after 32 tests of LiveTV channel change no issue. With https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/34ad1 . . . 17359c1bfc1d applied deadlock was just after 3..5 channel change. I will add back again https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/36e94 . . . 15f5d5e7cdbc an
[15:42:16] warpme: see – but corelation with https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/34ad1 . . . 17359c1bfc1d seems to be evident :-)
[15:44:06] warpme: dekalr: regarding expressing cove ver. with „r” instead gith hash – I prefer this method as it is monotonic and easier to remember/refer
[15:44:14] warpme: cove->code
[15:46:23] dekarl: I wonder what CheckForRingBufferSwitch() is.

[18:05:38] peper03: peterbennett: Tried setting up a Raspi3 today. Followed the guide (as far as I know) and installed your package but it still seems a bit flakey.
[18:05:48] peper03: I'm wondering if I've missed something obvious.
[18:06:34] peper03: I had to add the user to the 'video' group manually (didn't find anyone else mentioning that).
[18:07:17] peper03: Playback seems to be working more or less, but something's not right with the menus. In particular trying to anything much in the settings menu ends in a hang.
[18:07:37] peper03: I can't enter the theme chooser menu at all.
[18:09:04] peper03: I also keep seeing MySQL 'malformed packet' errors. Sometimes everything hangs when exiting playback. The last thing output was one of those errors but I'm not sure whether that was a coincidence or not.
[18:09:50] peper03: Any ideas?

[20:52:01] warpme: ok – I verified issue with be deadlocks is caused by https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/34ad1 . . . 17359c1bfc1d
[20:52:50] warpme: jpoet: should I fill bug report for this?
[20:55:14] warpme: jpoet: be deadlocks are on channel where tuning takes 12–15sec (mainly caused by CAS subsystem). Maybe this issue is linked with 10sec checks introduced by this patch?

[21:12:46] peper03: peterbennett: GPU is now set to 384. I set it to 256 to start off with and tried increasing it because sometimes playback wouldn't start (I've tried it with MPEG2 and h.264 recordings and neither one were noticibly more problematic).
[21:13:06] peper03: I can enter, for example, 'General' and 'Appearance' settings, but leaving them causes a hang.
[21:13:19] peper03: Sometimes exiting playback causes a hang too.
[21:14:06] peper03: I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong since it doesn't seem to be a problem affecting everyone, and yet I'm not sure there's that much I can be doing wrong.
[21:15:02] peper03: The backend is running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS in case that should make any difference but it's not going to be uncommon.

[21:51:19] peterbennett: peper03: I would suggest leave GPU as 256. The more you allocate there, the less is available for the rest of the system.
[21:51:59] peterbennett: peper03: What happens when playback wouldn't start?
[21:53:39] peterbennett: peper03: Is the frontend running raspbian? Ubuntu on the raspberry pi does not work well with MythTV
[21:55:50] peper03: peterbennett: When playback doesn't start, it just hangs. The only way out is to kill the process.
[21:56:11] peper03: The frontend is running raspbian. I downloaded the latest image and went from there.
[21:56:47] peper03: Sometimes playback starts ok but then gets stuck.
[21:56:54] peterbennett: I just ran the general setup from start to end – no problem.
[21:57:01] peper03: Basically, whenever it gets stuck, the only way out is to kill the process.
[21:57:21] peterbennett: Anything in the log?
[21:57:38] peper03: I don't know how I can be getting such different results. The hardware is fixed, the OS and software too.
[21:57:58] peterbennett: Is this 0.28, with my mythtv-light?
[21:57:59] peper03: Nothing that gives me much of a clue.
[21:58:01] peper03: Yes.
[21:58:21] peterbennett: Try reduce GPU to 256
[21:58:23] peper03: I tried turning on all debug outputs but there's nothing.
[21:58:59] peterbennett: You did not install the "experimental OpenGL", that messes things up.
[21:58:59] peper03: Apart from the odd MySQL errors.
[21:59:07] peper03: Nope.
[21:59:17] peterbennett: Maybe a network problem?
[21:59:38] peterbennett: Is it ethernet connected?
[22:00:16] peterbennett: Is it a normal TV 1080?
[22:00:26] peterbennett: There may be problems with 4K TV
