[17:46:11] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: (reviewing logs) and mythfilldatabase duplicating channels. I am guessing you set some channels to not being visible? I believe it is a "feature". At line 135 of channeldata.cpp try changing the "true" to a "false".
[17:48:01] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: The issue is that with "true" only channels visible are compared to decide whether to add a new channel. With "false" invisible channels should be returned to check too (I think, this is from time ago when I was looking at this).
[17:49:47] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: (somewhere) I have a stash with that change, but I have been unable to convince myself it would not cause other side effects for other sources of guide data, and when reviewing the entire history for that set of lines I lost some of the reasoning for the why.
[18:03:21] gary_buhrmaster: jbabq: the --only-update-guide is what I am currently using as a bypass until I have the time (and priority) to finish some other scripts I am working on.

[19:52:12] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: There is an option within the --manage-lineups capability, but I generally do not recommend it as it can be fragile depending on what else changes in your lineups. I just download and load all guide data. It is just a bit of database storage.
[19:55:38] jpabq: gary_buhrmaster: I only 'keep' about '9% of the channels that Directv provides, so that would be 90% less data that mythfilldatabase had to process.

[20:07:39] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: You can (likely) create an external config file via xsltproc.

[20:36:53] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: Pretty much untested, but a possible stylesheed solution using xsltproc: http://pastebin.com/CJ6nttyy
[20:38:52] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: I consider something like an external xsltproc invokation less fragile than using --manage-lineups/manage_channel_selection because --manage-lineups updates the local cache database (which is a cache, and can be otherwise recreated from whole cloth if lost/destroyed).
[20:40:17] jpabq: gary_buhrmaster: I will look into xsltproc. I have never used it before, so it will have to wait until I have some time to dedicate to it.
[20:49:37] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: The only reason xsltproc came to mind was that someone on the MythTV wiki just created an article using it to filter guide data by ratings. ref:https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Simple_Filter_to_ . . . _-_by_Rating
[20:50:03] jpabq: gary_buhrmaster: thanks for the pointer!

[21:05:12] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: Of course, another approach (as long as you run with --only-update-guide) is delete the channels from MythTV. In which case the guide data will not be loaded. That (of course) has other issues, and will result in information log messages in mfdb for each station.
[21:06:05] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: Back to multiple ways to address the concerns/issues (picking whichever you consider the least of the evils).
[21:06:41] jpabq: For my situation, there are channels which I never want data for. Then there are other channels which I /may/ want data for, so I want them to exist, but be set to invisble.
[21:06:58] jpabq: Then, there is the issue of my provider adding new channels...
[21:09:08] gary_buhrmaster: jpabq: I keep hoping I have some time to work on the script which will deal with --get-lineup output (which should improve the situation with the the last few things you mention).
[21:09:55] jpabq: gary_buhrmaster: I understand. There are times which I wish I could retire from my job, just so I have more time to work on what *I* want to work on ;-)

[21:13:08] gary_buhrmaster: Completely different topic regarding wiki taxonomy. I have a couple of small scripts that I can share that may help some using MythTV and also a HDHR. Should they be in one article, or one article per script?
[21:13:18] gigem: jpabq, gary_buhrmaster: I would really love MythTV to notify me in some when way channels get added or removed.
[21:14:01] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: interesting enough, one of these scripts can (sort of) do that if you have a recent HDHR.

[21:15:18] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: The special, Olympic basketball and soccer channels showed up on SchedulesDirect last week. Today, I noticed they are "Copy Once"! :( Do you know if that's just Frontier's policy showing through or if NBC asked for it this time around?
[21:16:30] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: I do that manually with my HDHR already. I'm more interested when SchedulesDirect does things.
[21:16:55] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: No idea. But historically Frontier (on their non-FiOS acquired plant) set copy protection on a number of channels. Do you have the names? I do not know if Comcast has added those channels yet.
[21:17:24] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: (if Comcast has, I can check the copy protection).

[21:19:29] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: NBCBSK and NBCSCOL. I know that's reportedly been Frontier's policy, but if that's it, this is the first I've seen it in practice. They've made some other, small lineup tweaks since the takeover, but nothing has added copy protection (nor removed it).
[21:25:08] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: Interestingly Comcast (the owner of NBC) has apparently not yet added those channels (at least to my location). I'll try to keep watching and let you know if I see something (or, feel free to bug me to check next week).
[21:26:13] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: (they may be deferring adding those channels to my location because starting about now they are going to be converting a bunch of channels to H.264, so it may be part of the "queue".)

[21:32:11] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: Okay, though, it's not that big of a deal this time. I'm mainly wondering if it's a harbinger of what's to come with Frontier. While I probably would have recorded them "just in case" (it's nice to have lots of cable card tuners), it's unlikely I would have actually watched any of it.
[21:34:39] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: Well, if you do not mind causing another storm of complaints about the content producers decisions(*), you could ask on the users list to see what others are seeing.
[21:35:48] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: (*) The issue of content producer copy protection decisions is orthogonal to what you want to know, but the odds are the question will get some people started all over again.
[21:38:50] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: :) I know. I hadn't decided if I wanted to go that route again.
[21:39:10] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: In my case, there are fairly good odds that I will not intentionally watch much, if any, of the olympics (no doubt it will be covered on the news programs I do watch if something important happens).
[21:41:07] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: There is the POV that says the users list has been quiet recently. Too quiet. You could be offering a service.
[21:43:49] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: I'm a sports junkie, through and through. Normally, I do a pretty good job of ignoring fringe sports (at least the ones I'm not already interested in) and even some major ones, I can't help but get sucked in when the stakes are high. I thoroughly detest just about everything about the IOC, though.
[21:44:43] gigem: :)
[21:45:33] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: I believe John Oliver pointed out that some of the drug testing regimes that the IOC is involved in almost makes FIFA look good (followed by *#!@$ FIFA!).
[21:48:13] gigem: Yep.
