[10:03:48] stuartm: magic multicast thingy is SSDP :)
[10:04:17] stuartm: it's only used to locate the mythbackend to access the database/protocol
[10:09:42] lomion0815: dekarl: You wrote in #12702 that we could extract the parental guidance rating from the EIT description and add it to the data structure. Is this information then only used in the program details screen?

[12:01:01] dekarl: IIRC the rating of videos can be used for the access control. That could be done for recordings, too. But first the data needs to be there and then the mechanism.
[12:02:23] dekarl: also a filter "show me upcoming movies with good user rating and rated up to 6years" for the guide would be nice. I don't think an icon on the grid is that useful

[13:59:16] stuartm: tgm4883: can you grab a backend log with -v upnp when loading mythweb?
[13:59:39] stuartm: first step is determining whether the request even reaches the backend
[14:00:20] stuarta: and if the backend is started with upnp disabled, it'll never work
[14:04:36] stuartm: if possible, try to eliminate other upnp devices from the network while grabbing those logs, there's a constant stream of upnp discovery/notice requests bouncing around otherwise which makes it harder to identify the ones we're interested in

[19:28:23] peterbennett1: stuarta: IMHO there are more serious and less serious seg faults. If it seg faults consistently and you cannot get past it that is more serious.
[19:29:35] stuarta: agreed
[19:32:42] peterbennett1: stuarta: The way 0.27 worked with a remote frontend was very friendly but rather insecure in that it had an API that it called to the backend to retrieve the database password. So I am wondering if that was supposed to change now since it no longer works.

[20:03:09] stuarta: well that's hardly new code, Chutt wrote it back in 2003....
[20:04:10] peterbennett1: stuarta: It is now working for me every time, maybe I should shut the backend and see what happens
[20:04:30] stuarta: peterbennett1: check if anything was saved into .mythtv
[20:04:52] stuarta: i'm not sure moving config.xml is sufficient, it might need the empty directory
[20:05:12] peterbennett1: stuarta: Yes – I remove the whole .mythtv, and it recreates it, does not even prompt for country and language
[20:05:33] stuarta: hmm, i moved mine out of the way and it prompted etc
[20:06:00] peterbennett1: If I shut the backend, then it prompts for country and language, then seg faults
[20:07:00] MitchCapper: stuartm re: video file "bookmarks use byte offset, and http streaming allowing seeking by byte offset", thats interesting, i was getting a number that seemed to be divisible out to around 30 so I was thinking fps. Unfortunately that doesn't work for HLS live streaming, and would make it harder for 3rd party players that don't export a current byte offset option even when playing a native file
[20:07:00] MitchCapper: . This isn't a feature I feel is super needed but if a good concept can be thought of for how best to implement service API video file bookmarking im happy to give it a wack.
[20:07:55] peterbennett1: stuarta: I suppose sometimes it manages to find the backend by using some sort of search, then it is ok, but if it fails to find the backend it seg faults
[20:09:09] peterbennett1: stuarta: I think I am wrong about master being OK – it is probably the same as fixes/0.28
[20:09:22] stuarta: i expect it to be
[20:11:13] stuarta: now why does it die in QEvent
[20:11:57] peterbennett1: stuarta: before it seg faults there are many log messages where it is trying to connect to 127.0.0.1:6543,
[20:12:05] letifosiferrari (letifosiferrari!~letifosif@216.207.42.140) has quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[20:12:24] stuarta: yes same here
[20:12:33] peterbennett1: So it is assuming that the backend is local, That is not necessarily true
[20:12:38] stuarta: but that's in the search phase, before it asks for the config
[20:13:02] stuarta: i don't think it is, it's done it that way for years, looks locally first
[20:14:35] peterbennett1: Yes it could look locally first, but so many times?
[20:16:07] stuarta: not ideal, but i don't think that's the current source of issues
[20:17:08] stuarta: peterbennett1: what qt5 version are you on?
[20:17:43] peterbennett1: Do you know the command to find that?
[20:17:47] stuarta: i'm on 5.6.0–9.fc23
[20:17:57] stuarta: erm... yes... one sec
[20:19:02] stuarta: interesting. i just found qtdiag, which dumps much useful info
[20:20:04] peterbennett1: oh the startup log has it – 5.5.1
[20:20:23] peterbennett1: This is compiled and run on xenial
[20:20:52] stuarta: ok, just wanted to quickly see if it may have been because of the 5.6 update on f23
[20:20:59] stuarta: so unlikely that
[20:21:38] stuarta: hmmm, null event
[20:22:27] stuarta: well it kinda looks like one to me
[20:22:46] peterbennett1: stuarta: I just tried with 0.27 and you are right, it has multiple messages about connecting to localhost before it prompts for the database credentials
[20:23:04] jheizer: Want me to try it on 14.04? Don't have anything on there to debug with or anything, but I can at least tell you if it fails or not.
[20:23:21] stuarta: jheizer: yeah, just move aside .mythtv in the test users home dir
[20:23:59] jheizer: k, 2 sec
[20:25:27] jheizer: hmm went straght into the mainmenu
[20:25:38] jheizer: must have one of the old style configs somewhere
[20:25:59] jheizer: yeah
[20:26:02] stuarta: yeah, you have to move the whole directory
[20:26:17] jheizer: well I had configs in /etc/mythtv
[20:26:22] jheizer: so I think it found them
[20:26:25] peterbennett1: ubuntu wily with 5.4.2 fails differently – just says Error in my_thread_global_end(): 6 threads didn't exit and then exits
[20:27:17] peterbennett1: jheizer: You may have to shut your backend also – I found that sometimes it works and sometimes it fails if the backend is up
[20:27:28] stuarta: so it's potentially a qt change that's exposed an underlying bug in our code
[20:28:05] jheizer: ok country menu
[20:28:30] peterbennett1: stuarta: I found that mythtv-setup does seem to work ok, it prompts for database credentials.
[20:28:37] jheizer: hmm remote can't navigate
[20:28:55] stuarta: promising
[20:28:57] peterbennett1: stuarta: So whet ever is different between frontend and setup
[20:29:14] jheizer: have to go find a keyboard to steal, brb
[20:32:52] jheizer: well accidently power cycled it while plugging in a keyboard. Came back up to mainmenu but different theme without me selecting anything
[20:32:58] stuarta: doh
[20:37:53] jheizer: cleared it all again, rebooted, country menu -> main menu
[20:38:10] jheizer: though there was a rather long delay betweent he country menu and the main menu
[20:38:24] jheizer: trying to check logs to see if it really crashed and mythbunu restarted it for me
[20:38:30] jheizer: but not the machine will not power on
[20:39:24] peterbennett1: jheizer: If the backend is down it seems to have a problem, should prompt for database credentials but segfaults instead. Do you see this?
[20:40:11] peterbennett1: jheizer: backend down and .mythtv directory moved
[20:41:34] jheizer: Let me try that. Just got it back on.
[20:45:11] jheizer: I think it did crash earlier
[20:46:02] jheizer: Sorry for the bad formatted paste
[20:46:02] jheizer: http://pastebin.com/sUph8dBG
[20:49:19] jheizer: log is the same for no master bavkend running
[20:49:34] jheizer: only trying localhost
[20:49:47] stuarta: jheizer: but no crash?
[20:49:50] jheizer: then back at the startup messages
[20:49:59] jheizer: which I assume again is restarting itmytbuntu
[20:50:02] jheizer: blah
[20:50:10] jheizer: which I assume again is mytbuntu restarting it
[20:50:33] jheizer: lol I guess I have a keyboard I can run it directly easy enough.  :facepalms:
[20:50:47] peterbennett1: mythbuntu has this shell script that restarts after a crash
[20:51:13] SteveGoodey (SteveGoodey!~steve@host5-81-230-128.range5-81.btcentralplus.com) has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!)
[20:51:16] jheizer: or not, can't get menu to open
[20:51:25] peterbennett1: you can test by using mythfrontend.real
[20:51:52] jheizer: yeah switching to that now
[20:53:25] jheizer: yeah where it looks like in the log above it is restarting, it is
[20:53:33] jheizer: after save on the country menu it is gone
[20:53:42] jheizer: with backend stopped
[20:53:45] jheizer: starting backend now
[20:54:47] jheizer: same with backend running
[20:54:55] jheizer: I never get a db settings prompt screen
[20:55:27] jheizer: but the next start after the country screen with the backend running works
[20:55:37] jheizer: as everything in .mythtv has been generated and filled in
[20:56:20] jheizer: so anyone of us using mythbuntu wouldn't have noticed since it auto restarted
[21:01:00] dmfrey (dmfrey!~dmfrey@68.170.18.123) has quit (Ping timeout: 276 seconds)
[21:02:08] peterbennett1: jheizer: I tried to setup mythbuntu as a remote frontend, and it was restarting over and over, it never sorted itself out. I had to manually copy the config.xml from the backend machine.
[21:03:20] jheizer: weird, mine was good till I hit save then just gone
[21:03:45] jheizer: and I must have typoed restoring my directory as things are not back to normal
[21:03:46] jheizer: oops
[21:14:57] jheizer: hmm, only 4 themes marked as available for 0.28/28.0?

[21:28:42] jheizer: I can't switch themes
[21:29:15] jheizer: went and pulled arclight directly, but can't switch to it over mythcenter or terra that were already there
[21:54:49] peterbennett1: jheizer: Can you press M and ask to refresh download?
[21:58:22] jheizer: peterbennett1, duh. That made them all show up. I keep fogetting the Menu button on my harmony remote lost its mapping.
[21:58:35] jheizer: but still can't switch to any other theme
[21:59:47] jheizer: I just end up back on mythbuntu http://pastebin.com/LWDxdrVm
