[12:32:55] stuartm: well I'm surprised to be honest, more I learnt about the WD PiDrive the more it seemed like a bit of a con – it's a standard USB drive without enclosure for £27 with a custom power-conserving firmware
[12:33:12] stuartm: and it's 1/3 of a TB
[12:34:12] stuartm: cables are £6 extra
[12:34:40] stuartm: you can get the 1/2 TB version of the drive with enclosure and cables for £36
[12:34:48] stuartm: only difference is the firmware
[12:36:59] stuartm: when you consider that with the addition of a small powered hub you could opt for the larger drive + cables for less than the PiDrive, the appeal is limited
[12:38:49] stuartm: different matter entirely if it really was a drive designed for the Pi – i.e. same form factor, with mount points in the same positions as the Pi so you could bolt the two together

[14:48:59] jmcentee: I think the current discounted price they are fair someone was in the market for it, but is it just a good marketing trick. and a sata drive and a usb to sata would be more adaptable.
[14:50:14] peterbennett1: It looks like it does not even have an enclosure
[14:51:48] peterbennett1: Not really cheap – I see 1 TB drive with enclosure $54
[14:52:22] peterbennett1: 314 GB drive without enclosure at $46 for pi drive
[14:55:24] jmcentee: I agree full price too much. current price is $32 but you need to spend $10 on the cable (and probably shipping).

[15:50:36] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12290 **
[15:50:52] bill6502: I can push the initial workaround or simply remove the check for 0 byte files (that prevents the queuing of commflag jobs etc.)
[15:56:07] stuarta: bill6502: the initial workaround, is that the one that "mostly" works??
[15:58:00] bill6502: stuarta, no that one works, but backs out some of stuartm's work here: https://code.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/ffef83 . . . 6c2d6/mythtv
[16:00:28] stuarta: stuartm: you want to comment on ^^^ then?
[16:01:13] stuarta: bill6502: it may be that we have to commit something that works around it for 0.28, and fix it properly for 0.29
[16:07:07] bill6502: stuarta: that works for me. I'll wait for stuartm's response then adjust the LOG() so it won't be too noisy and add the appropriate FIXME or TODO flags
[16:09:10] stuartm: I'd really prefer not to rip out the new stuff, especially as adding it back again later will be a pain. That said I don't know if I'll have time to get back up to speed on the issue and come up with a proper fix
[16:17:54] bill6502: stuartm: it's only this portion: http://pastebin.com/CQtgNFLg
[16:20:07] stuarta: so basically the filesize isn't updating properly in the internal data, but is in the db?
[16:26:08] stuartm: stuarta: sort of, TVRec has an instance of RecordingInfo and the recorder has it's own, the recorder copy is properly updated but this change isn't synced with the one in TVRec
[16:26:31] stuarta: can we call one from the other to avoid backing out the new code?
[16:26:37] stuartm: it's a messy design, and because the recorder runs in a different thread they can't just share a copy without a nest of locks
[16:27:35] stuarta: there's a plague of messy designs in the backend
[16:27:47] stuartm: proper fix is for TVRec to receive the filesize change events from the recorder
[16:28:06] bill6502: the patch in comment 12/13 works, but I can't care for the case when the ring buffer changes
[16:28:58] stuartm: yeah, splitting out the filesize from ProgramInfo was in the first place intended as one of many small steps towards resolving the flaws in the design
[16:30:00] stuarta: if we can't make the filesize event work in the short term, then why not let the DB be the arbitrator of the data access? it'll block the querying thread briefly while the value is updated
[16:30:10] stuartm: it's not just removing filesize from ProgramInfo but moving it into the new RecordedFile table – since under the new structure we're working towards a recording can have more than one file (transcoded copies for streaming etc)
[16:30:19] stuarta: right
[16:31:24] stuartm: we may be able to make it work, I don't remember what the issues were, I may have been close to fixing it when I just ran out of time
[16:34:13] bill6502: how does this sound? I'll touch up the workaround and test it, and if a proper solution isn't available before 4/11, I'll push it.
[16:35:03] stuarta: stuartm: looks like you had a change in mind, but it broke the build
[16:35:18] stuarta: c#8 and c#9
[16:37:47] stuarta: bill6502: is it just the recordedfile transition (from livetv?) that is causing issues with your patch from c#12 ??
[16:39:39] bill6502: actually, never tried it with livetv
[16:41:27] bill6502: and I don't know how to force a ring buffer change at the end of a recording. one user claimed that it happened on his recordings of news programs
[16:41:57] stuarta: live tv is the easiest way to force a change, as each new program will cause a ringbuffer transition
[16:42:13] stuarta: so pick a channel with lots of short programs

[18:01:48] jmcentee: How can I capture that for you?
[18:04:43] ** jmcentee check through .bash_history **
[18:05:20] dekarl: easiest is to use LiveTV/a recording/manual dvbtune to tune the the channel where it airs, then run dvbsnoop 0x12 in parallel and pick the section that contains the right event (the last being manual work)
[18:06:53] jmcentee: I don't have the error on my mythweb, I guess they are not masrked as new anymore
[18:06:55] dekarl: e.g. "dvbsnoop -n 1 0x12" will capture just one section, retry until you catch the right one. http://dvbsnoop.sourceforge.net/examples/example-eit.html ... do not -nph or similar, as the hexdump may contain additional useful data (e.g. when the issue is tab vs. space stuff)
[18:07:37] dekarl: it is possible that the EIT data is different between different transports (e.g. DVB-S vs DVB-T or between regions on DVB-T)
[18:08:12] jmcentee: um, slave backend jsut poweroff, I though I stop mythtvbackend on it.

[22:29:50] dekarl: jmcentee: ahhh, ty... "New: Marvel's Agents of..." + "...S.H.I.E.L.D. Brand new series – Bouncing Back: synopsis goes here" looks like its going through multiple stages of fixing

[22:31:45] dekarl: no
[22:32:10] dekarl: this showing is broken in the mythtv guide? 2016-03–20 21:00:00 (UTC)
[22:32:33] stuartm: stuarta: I need at least another day to review the improvements to software OSD rendering, and it would be good to get people testing that generally – the movement of ProcessFrame calls in particular makes me uneasy
[22:33:10] jmcentee: Yes.
[22:33:34] stuartm: I'm tempted to leave that commit out for 0.28 until it's been in master for a while
[22:33:54] jmcentee: That is on a channel called E4 it is also broken on E4+1

[23:07:42] stuartm: classic question over in #linuxtv earlier – "how to get live tv in kodi withought using a hardware tv tuner?"
[23:09:22] stuartm: while there is actually an answer (streaming services), I just like the notion that someone goes into a channel for hardware drivers and asks how to get live TV without a hardware tuner, as though there might be such a thing as a software tuner
[23:26:17] gary_buhrmaster: stuartm: Did the person get an answer in that channel?
