My backend always comes up before my eth0 and causes my HDHRP and Ceton to be marked as errored. I've tried multiple things, but have yet to get it to work properly. My last attempt was to use 'After=ifup@eth0.target ', which I think is Debian specific. |

| [17:23:53] | stuarta: | gigem: maybe it's better just to add support for binding to the address that isn't there yet? or maybe using wildcard bind (which would avoid all issues around people putting in the wrong ip address) |

| [17:29:26] | stuarta: | if we were to wildcard bind, then SSDP could announce all the known backend ip's at that time, and the frontend can choose for itself |
| [17:30:44] | gary_buhrmaster: | (IRT network.online) to make that work, if you are using NetworkManager, I think you also have to enable NetworkManager-wait-online.service. It is all a maze of twisted passages. |
| [17:30:46] | stuarta: | anyone who doesn't like that, can firewall off the mythtv ports on the interfaces they don't want them on |
| [17:31:37] | gary_buhrmaster: | stuarta: Well, you can do that properly, and maybe I can, but I can easily see the user confusion for some that like to run their BE as their public facing "do everything" service. |
| [17:32:05] | stuarta: | pft. we are doing a half arsed solution right now. we are listening on all the ip's that the backend knows about, but never rechecking |

| [17:42:41] | gary_buhrmaster: | dekarl: In most orgs, just make sure that the root cause analysis names the individual by name. |
| [17:42:49] | gigem: | gary_buhrmaster, stuarta: Ugh! After much more trial and error, I still can't get mythbackend to bind to the desired IP. It insists on only binding to localhost. | [20:03:29] | stuarta: | pfft. we aren't supporting debian stable-1 |
| [20:04:50] | dekarl: | ahh, very nice. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemdForUpstartUsers first google hit has all information... Ubuntu 15.04 (using Systemd by default): Prior versions (using Upstart by default): |
| [20:07:27] | dekarl: | stuarta, that happens when I run my "xmltv update from various guide sources to various video sources" script. http://paste.ubuntu.com/13833562/ first two MFDB picked a working IPv4 address the third picked a non-working IPv6 address |
| [20:11:47] | stuarta: | does fe80::18cc:1ff:feca:b3bc not exist on any interface? |
| [20:14:26] | cybrNaut (cybrNaut!cybrNaut@2001:0:53aa:64c:842:547f:bcca:66c4) has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) | |
| [20:19:10] | dekarl: | it does, but its missing the %eth0 or so |
| [20:20:42] | chrismatic (chrismatic!~textual@delos.delosent.com) has joined #mythtv | |
| [20:21:06] | dekarl: | yup. ping6 only works if I append %eth0 |
| [20:21:16] | stuarta: | different host or the same one? |
| [20:21:23] | dekarl: | the same host |
| [20:22:02] | stuarta: | right, so the scope (%eth0) is only valid to apply routing from the client to the server |
| [20:22:29] | gary_buhrmaster: | Right, for LLAs, you have to specify the interface. |
| [20:22:45] | stuarta: | eg. if server network is on eth1 and client has only eth0, then the "scope" on the client needs to be %eth0, while on the server the scope would be %eth1 |
| [20:23:06] | stuarta: | so in this case MFDB needs to qualify the LL address with the scope |
| [20:23:29] | dekarl: | we miss the code that appends the scope of the interface it was received on |
| [20:23:35] | stuarta: | yes |
| [20:23:49] | stuarta: | i'm sure we put it in the frontend |
| [20:24:10] | dekarl: | it "broke" when we added the code that strips the scope on the sending side |
| [20:24:27] | stuarta: | that was actually necessary |

| [20:29:13] | stuarta: | or just ignore it in MFDB |
| [20:29:27] | stuarta: | i mean, ffs, it should be able to connect via localhost |

| [20:57:27] | gary_buhrmaster: | Is the trend statistically significant? |
| [20:57:47] | stuarta: | tbh, it's probably the old data falling off the end |

| [23:46:01] | gigem: | gary_buhrmaster: For me the good outweighs the bad with Debian. There are some things I've always hated, and some I still do, about RH systems. Full disclosure: I was a Debian developer for several years in its very early days. |
