[06:31:43] dekarl: enyc, if our users want to use more then 2 years old releases, then its hard to offer these for all supported platforms latest and greatest release
[06:33:18] dekarl: I see all the threads on the forum/list about upgrading from 0.20, 0.22 etc to 0.27. So I know they are out there, but we have to draw a line somewhere

[07:34:54] enyc: dekarl: well, if the base_os _includes_ a newer package with the same name, it will tend to do the whole 'newer version already installed' thing or otherwise prefer the version already in the distro.

[07:35:31] enyc: dekarl: completely agree only want a few supported versions etc., don't wont to go way back!
[07:47:08] lautriv: enyc, you may consider to pull from git, when setting head to a specific commit all machines would use the very same version regardless of the linux-variant.
[07:50:51] lautriv: stuarta, got more power from dock ?
[07:50:53] enyc: lautriv: indeed, if building your own packages etc etc =)
[07:52:03] lautriv: enyc, that said i run 0.28/master fixed to a specific commit and it's worth the efford. much more responsive.
[08:14:17] stuarta: lautriv: nope, it's the dvb driver smashing the stack
[08:14:36] stuarta: see http://fpaste.org/270729/44304004/
[08:16:01] stuarta: debian/ubuntu/mint don't crash because they don't use the same stack protection
[08:17:58] lautriv: stuarta, but "firmware download failed -95" appears to render the stick in an uninitialized state, maybe dev/dev* got feed with garbage.
[08:18:11] lautriv: /dev/dvb*
[08:20:58] stuarta: maybe
[08:21:08] stuarta: still shouldn't smash the stack tho
[08:22:10] lautriv: if it spits a large amount of BS on the node, because not loadiong FW which in turn may happen because underpowered....just a guess but did the FW load on a desktop ?
[08:23:02] stuarta: that stack trace is from the kdump
[08:23:42] stuarta: it appeared to load on my mint box
[08:23:59] stuarta: but i had no signal there, so can't really tell if it worked or not
[08:24:17] stuarta: by appeared to load, there was no firmware load failed msg
[08:24:25] lautriv: the mint box was a desktop ?
[08:25:10] stuarta: it's an old mac mini, so close enough
[08:25:22] stuarta: 1st gen intel mac mini
[08:29:36] lautriv: by definition, the regular power is limited to 500mA (2,5W on 5 V) this is borderline for some hdd and i could imagine this tuner too. some machines can override this to up to 2A, defined "special case" if one needs to load batteries via USB. hdd vendors are tricking by Y-wires using a second USB to split the current to 2 limiters. if your machine is able to feed more, there is a setting somewhere below /sys which may set the limit higher.
[08:30:06] stuarta: the dock will be able to provide more than enough power, as would the usb3 port i tried it on.
[08:30:19] stuarta: no amount of power is going to fix a stack smash tho
[08:31:50] lautriv: the stack will probably not be smashed if the stick stays ready to receive the FW. however still an assumtion. ( if the dock can feed more, it need still to be set higher )
[08:34:52] stuarta: anyway i'm going to get it reported and see what happens

[19:09:46] dekarl: lautriv: funny resolution. it has quare pixels but pseudo SD width. I would expected 704x576 for PAL SD widescreen with anamorphic / non-square pixels. But yes, that would commonly be called SD/HQ, likely it was sourced from a HD signal

[19:14:13] lautriv: still curious if myth may move to h265 by default in near future where i don't care about filesize but reduced network load.
[19:17:45] dekarl: lautriv: what network? By default MythTV does not encode anything at all :D
[19:22:25] lautriv: dekarl, myth is something i take "as is" never looked on details but i assumed the files of recordings were stored in an optimized format.
[19:23:00] clever: for digital tv, it just saves it in the exact codec that the capture card pulls off the air/cable
[19:23:04] dekarl: basically its just a dump from whatever comes down the airwaves/wire
[19:23:33] dekarl: for analog tv its whatever your hardware encoder does
[19:23:54] dekarl: e.g. the commonly used HD-PVR and non HD PVRs
[19:24:36] dekarl: I'm wondering that the original MKV didn't "just work" as my Bluray and DVD rips to mkv "just work"
[19:26:28] lautriv: dekarl, the mkv was about to play but stutters. this is actually a h/w limit because my line between back and frontends got damaged and the switch reduced to 100TX. since this line is 31 Meters i need more time to fix that.
[19:27:13] dekarl: wrt, Vox (Germany) video on demand... Google hints that they have DRM locked their streams, so any open source solution is out http://www.finnchristiansen.de/2015/07/27/now . . . hre-schauen/

[19:30:56] lautriv: dekarl, yes it should but since i moved to 0.28/master it appears to need more bandwith.
