[19:22:34] dekarl: stuartm, gigem, I can post a patch that only contains the removal of the ETT cache. https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/11739#comment:7 Only ATSC OTA users should see the impact (higher load, working guide data). If that makes them happy I see little risk for the DVB EIT users

[20:09:29] gigem: dekarl: I don't feel qualified to make any real decisions on EIT. If you think the patch is safe and useful, then by all means, commit it. FWIW, I as partly joking about dropping the support for ATSC EIT. IMHO, though, it does seem like a feature whose value is not worth the cost of maintaining it.
[20:10:23] stuarta: is that the ticket people are complaining about has been around for 3 years?
[20:10:43] stuarta: i recall reviewing it a while back, and it's horrible, touching far more than it should
[20:11:44] dekarl: gigem, if I thought that I'd have commited it long ago. I find the mashup of various issues very hard to follow. There are locking issues in the US when you run multiple EIT scanners apparently, then there are issues with the ETT cache not working properly, then there are lots of unrelated changes
[20:12:05] dekarl: stuarta yes
[20:12:32] stuarta: dekarl: i was just pondering breaking that patch into several pieces. ie. the actual ETT changes, the no caching for starters
[20:12:46] stuarta: i really don't think the locking should be an issue
[20:13:30] stuarta: there appear to be several people interested in seeing it fixed, so if we turn it into a series, and say try 001, then 001 + 002 etc etc
[20:13:38] stuarta: we will find out what is actually required
[20:16:18] dekarl: I'm on sick leave having a hard time to concentrate, so any help is appreciated. It appears that just the "remove the ETT cache and use only one card for EIT collection" would improve things a lot for ATSC EIT users
[20:18:13] stuarta: no worries. i'm doing a bit of study at the moment, so once i get this chapter out of the way i'll see what I can manage

[22:20:06] warpme: gigem: pls go with Your excellent work!. At begining I was skeptical as touching stable code usually means more or less bugs...but results of Your work surpriced me so much that I decided to write here some words :-)
[22:21:04] warpme: damn 0.28 semms to become so good...
[22:23:26] warpme: now lets pray JYA will find some time to sync ffmpeg and do something with on-demand transcode, ffmpeg update I believe can make HEVC support starting point. I would be nice to start experimenting with HEVC 4k on VDPAU capabe HW....
[22:25:29] stuarta: i've looked at the ffmpeg resync, it would take some time, but i can probably manage it, although not as well as jya would
[22:25:48] stuarta: but won't be for at least 1 week due to other commitments
[22:29:19] warpme: stuarta: nice! BTW: how far in Your opinion we are for HEVC support?
[22:29:31] stuarta: i have not the faintest clue
[22:30:05] stuarta: i have some recordings from astra when they were broadcasting some HEVC, but until i do a resync i have no idea if any of it will work
[22:32:00] warpme: I'm pretty quessing here but probably keyframe parser needs to be implmented (the same way like for MPEG2/H264)...
[22:33:32] stuarta: entirely possible
[22:33:55] warpme: anyway – having HEVC support might be nice proof about "MythTV is fresh and kicking"
[22:37:07] stuarta: step 1 will always be ffmpeg resync. there have been a *lot* of changes
[22:37:21] stuarta: ffs, we last synced to 2.3.1, and 2.8 is now current
[22:38:07] warpme: I'm surpriced about how many Sat providers annonuced providing FTA with 4k HEVC. Recently Astra will start to provide 4k HEVC FTA channel. Good for tests
[22:38:28] stuarta: which sat is that on?
[22:40:44] warpme: Astra 19.2E. Press news is saying about Oct2015
[22:42:00] stuarta: i don't get that. maybe one day when i setup a diseqc and offset dish i might
[22:45:40] warpme: yeah – marketing is king. On the other hand – frend of mine told me: "man 4k this is it. When You start watching it, HD becomes crap..."
[22:47:12] warpme: especially today's HD which in Poland SAT is today equal to good SD in old times :-(
[22:49:52] warpme: I see constant programmed quality degradation for saving trnasponder BW for ultimatelly packing more channels in single trnasponder. This becomes so bad that for now it is almost unacceptable (I mean cheating customers for HD providing SD-like quality)
[22:55:53] amessina (amessina!~amessina@unaffiliated/amessina) has joined #mythtv
[22:56:08] stuarta: i'm sick of macroblocking because of crap encoding
[23:00:10] warpme: yeah. Some operators are saving on encoders upgrades. Here in Poland preasure on scarse resourse efficiency (BW on trnasponder/MUX) is so high that I see periodic upgrades on encoders: lowered bitrate transforms into blured picture. End effect is that on some HD channels picture is so softy/blured that it loks like SD.
