[09:21:24] lautriv_: help ! mythfrontend from version v0.28-pre-3053-g4b10c07 tells me "backend is protocol 87 but frontend wants version 87" since this is the same protocol, some comparsion fails and renders frontends from master unusual o.O

[11:30:49] stuartm: does anyone need a DVB-T, DVB-S or PVR-150 card? I'm throwing out old kit ... if you want them they are yours for the cost of the postage
[11:31:35] stuartm: although I may waive even that if it's only a couple of quid
[11:33:40] stuartm: time limited offer as I really don't want them hanging around, Sunday evening they go in the bin

[11:35:39] lautriv_: so if nobody else has a more urgend need i would grab it for testing changes on master without disturbing my running system.

[11:47:22] lautriv_: usually i do not transcode because most recordings will be deleted soon ( tv-series and such ) but i play with the idea for optimized streaming, is the transcoded result somehow simpler for the frontends when decoding ?

[13:02:44] stuartm: it depends on the codec being used
[13:03:04] stuartm: and the encoding options
[13:03:43] stuartm: generally if the filesize goes down, while the resolution and quality remain the same then it requires more processing power to decode, not less

[18:07:58] lautriv_: what do i do with this -> "TVRecEvent diseqc.cpp:493 (Execute) – DiSEqCDevTree: No root device tree node!" background : pulled latest master, failed to tune, tried to re-tune all channels on master with success, still no lock on any frontend, removed all cards from all systems, added just card on master, still this issue.
[18:10:15] lautriv_: ... mythweb reports all tables from mythconverg ok, new tunigs got already EIT data.
[18:12:46] lautriv_: ... storage-devices on master all online and having proper permissions (mythtv:video)
[18:15:26] lautriv_: ... /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 which is the first card for now is present and accessible ( master was already searching channels from it with success )
[18:26:37] enyc: superm1, tgm4883: hrrm.. food-for-thourght, discussions w/ debian friend seem to agree, for including different version options of mythtv *in* debian/ubuntu, would be better if we could build to mythtv-backend-0.27 mythtv-backend-0.28 etc. packages so the version is 'selectable' to be compatible with that used across network etc., not needing separate PPAs/repositories ...
[18:27:19] enyc: superm1, tgm4883: apparently we could copy/include the upstream changelog as an insttable file, the 'debian changelog' should only be for the packaging changes, essentially.
[18:29:06] tgm4883: enyc: I don't like it. Mostly because I don't like users accidentely installing trunk/master
[18:29:49] enyc: tgm4883: I'm sure theres' no perfect soltions... installing 'mythtv' or similar should install current stable somehow or another =)
[18:30:02] enyc: tgm4883: no different to selecting the wrong PPA
[18:30:39] tgm4883: enyc: except I can throw up giant warnings if they select the wrong PPA
[18:32:13] enyc: tgm4883: so... wonder if it makes sense that 'stable' mythtv versions are in main (jessie/wheezy/precise/trusty/etc), with updates in -backports, and 'master/testing' versions are only in 'unstable' / suitable PPA
[18:32:38] enyc: tgm4883: importantly there will be users who need to be able to install 'not the latest stable' for compatibiltiy with other systems/distros/versions on the network
[18:39:35] tgm4883: enyc: I'll let superm1 weigh in on this. It sounds like we're doing a lot of this because there's only a few debian repos
[18:40:00] enyc: tgm4883: yes indeed, needs considering carefully =)
[18:40:33] enyc: tgm4883: in the firist instance i need some install/update/use testing on current packaging repository, and check the 'when updated' case of the mysql-IPv6-fix
[18:40:42] tgm4883: If we do anything like that we need to make sure we set breaks/replaces carefully so multiple versions of mythtv (specifically, libmyth) aren't installed together
[18:40:59] enyc: yes indeed
[18:41:02] enyc: exactly
[18:41:31] enyc: shame mythtv is architected as the direct-database-access rather than a layer of abstraction that handles suibla forward/backward compatibility
[18:42:03] enyc: as always theres' no doubt plusses-and-minusses etc etc =)
[18:42:22] tgm4883: enyc: I've thought for a long time that mythfrontend should be 100% using the mythtv services API, but I lack the necessary C++ skills to assist in making that happen
[18:52:37] enyc: tgm4883: do other frontends like kodi do that? or do they similarly talk to database?
[18:53:53] tgm4883: enyc: kodi does both
[18:54:13] tgm4883: because not all features are available via the services api
[19:01:10] enyc: 'but kodi recognizez/supports different mythtv backend versions ?

[19:57:58] sphery (sphery!~mdean@mythtv/developer/sphery) has joined #mythtv
[20:00:54] superm1: enyc: I only want stable version in Debian too.
[20:01:23] superm1: I don't think it's worth the trouble to include the unstable
[20:01:35] superm1: So much change and manual interaction to update it
[20:01:50] superm1: The only reason it makes sense for a ppa is that it can be done all automatically
[20:02:11] dekarl1 is now known as dekarl
[20:04:53] enyc: superm1: nods, the problem comes in heterogenous eniverenment, what mythtv version *was* stable at the time of a particular LTS or debian release coming out... not in sync, but would ike different frontends/backends to talk together =)
[20:05:21] enyc: superm1: using only PPAs/extra-repos-in-debian is one solution to this
[20:08:54] enyc: superm1: in particular, using a debian-based backend with ubuntu/mint frontends or vice-versa ...
[20:15:38] enyc: superm1: so.... as you say without 'unstable' versions, makes sense to have mythtv-0.25 mythtv-0.27 'stable lts' variants, to go into packages that can go into next-debian next-ubuntu etc... then these can be updated (separately) by -backports/-updates repos ... and the version-for-network-level-compatibility is selected by the package chosen =)
[20:15:45] enyc: in any case next for me is testing packaging as-is!
