[00:50:03] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: Yeah, that was useful. My thoughts... My guess is an ICMP port unreachable (or similar) would end a UDP stream. Does SD provide some mechanism short of a power cycle to break a lock? My feeling is the locking would only really be useful in a pooling setup. In such cases, we could change the current HDHR recorder support to do it. Though, it could also be done as a new recorder type too.
[00:50:04] gigem: We still don't have anyone to do the work right now. I think I'll change the Trac ticket to developer task and ask for volunteers. I don't expect any takers, but it will remind us it is something we should try to do eventually.
[00:51:11] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: As I recall, there is a "force" option on the locking to break others locks.
[00:54:53] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: One tends to get volunteers to test the beta code someone else writes :-).
[00:57:22] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: Unfortunately, this is an itch that most do not care to scratch. My solution is (a) overprovision, and (b) segment to avoid trying to share between apps that do not share well.
[00:59:02] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: I am not going to claim I could actually do the coding correctly, but I have avoided the need to even try to find the resources to build the back-scratcher by utilizing those other solutions.
[00:59:47] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: Local (i.e. personal) optimization.
[01:00:34] gary_buhrmaster: gigem: I admit I am part of the problem (of not improving MythTV for all).
[01:55:09] gigem: gary_buhrmaster: I overprovision myself. I hope you're right on the volunteers to test bit. I'll be wanting some soon for the unrelated stuff I'm working on.

[08:44:25] stuarta: grrr, the icon matching on services is crap
[08:44:42] stuarta: search for itv london +1 and get everything include itv4+1
[08:45:04] stuarta: search for itv4+1 and get every other itv channel apart from itv4 or itv4+1
[08:46:25] stuarta: and guess what, searching for itv london +1 again to get itv4+1 returns the same dataset as the search for itv4+1, not the previous result for that search
[08:48:12] stuarta: hmmm, might be the frontend here, i've now put in a search which I know the results include what I need and I get back the results for the automatic search
[09:00:24] stuarta: good old tcpdump (& wireshark) proves that services is returning a result set which does not include the searched for station
[09:37:07] stuarta: ah well, raised a ticket so i don't forget about it when portings services over

[21:59:42] gigem: stuarta: Aren't you off by about 2 hours? I expect this one will be less eventful than the last one. For those that don't remember, the last one exposed a nasty NTP/Linux kernel interface issue that caused the affected systems to use 100% CPU.
