[07:43:23] zigovr: hi all, what SQL password does mythtv-setup try to use ?
[07:44:58] zigovr: ok it's "mythtv" , I don't know why, on ubuntu they ask you what password you want to set in the db, but then mythtv-setup use the default "mythtv" anyway
[07:55:06] stuarta: morning all
[08:10:04] dekarl1: zigovr: usually its a random one, see e.g. ~mythtv/.mythtv/config.xml
[08:10:09] dekarl1 is now known as dekarl
[08:20:27] Merlin83b (Merlin83b!~Daniel@office.34sp.com) has joined #mythtv
[08:56:05] zigovr: dekarl, but the first time you start mythtv-setup where does it take the password from ?
[08:58:27] zigovr: in ubuntu 14.04, after installing mythtv-backend, I have no service in /etc/init.d
[08:58:36] zigovr: I have no idea how to start the backend now
[08:58:52] stuarta: it's a systemd script iirc
[08:59:02] stuarta: systemctl | grep myth
[08:59:42] zigovr: hmm ubuntu 14.04 uses systemd ?
[08:59:48] zigovr: I didn't realize this :)
[08:59:53] stuarta: i might be imagining it
[09:00:05] zigovr: no no it's possible
[09:00:23] zigovr: I'm not very familiar with 14.04 actually
[09:00:24] stuarta: i may be getting confused with debian jessie which moved to systemd
[09:01:00] zigovr: yeah I don't have systemctl
[09:01:17] zigovr: service --status-all | grep myth shows nothing
[09:04:10] zigovr: it installed something in /etc/init
[09:04:23] zigovr: I'm not sure which init system use this directory :) what a mess
[09:04:38] zigovr: upstart maybe
[09:06:34] zigovr: ah it's "initctl" the magical tool to control services on ubuntu 14.04
[09:07:37] zigovr: dunno why they keep other tools which only work partially
[09:24:14] dekarl: do you have mythtv-database installed? https://github.com/MythTV/packaging/blob/mast . . . ase.postinst
[09:34:46] zigovr: yes
[09:35:14] zigovr: anyway, problem is fixed, just the default setup that is a bit weird
[09:35:24] zigovr: but it's ubuntu's problem I guess
[09:44:35] dekarl: good, I was just wondering why it didn't work "automagically" for you, too

[14:35:34] dekarl: stuartm, seen this, too? When I go to the list of recordings in the web frontend I can delete recordings until the screen is empty, no lazy loading happens.
[14:36:44] stuartm: dekarl: heh, never deleted that many recordings in one go, file a ticket and I'll fix
[14:36:58] stuarta: stichnot: should work now

[15:16:43] stichnot: stuarta: Thanks!
[15:18:26] stuarta: stichnot: np
[15:21:05] stichnot: stuarta: btw, re the dev list discussion, I vastly prefer using a web interface for schedule creation/editing because I can do it from anywhere, and all the info is on one page. Also, more often than not, my fat-fingering of the frontend page ends up accidentally deleting a recording rule or modifying it in some subtle and terrible way
[15:21:56] stuarta: stichnot: interestingly, i also tend to use mythweb, i just could not fathom why you would redirect schedule creation to mythweb
[15:22:52] stichnot: oh, and I would also like bookmarkable webfrontend urls, though only to the extent that I can refresh the upcoming recordings page. (a "Refresh" button on the page would be fine I think)
[15:23:33] ** stuarta uses F5 **
[15:24:46] stichnot: really? I'll try that after work
[15:25:41] stuarta: it is unlikely to work as i appear to be confusing web browsers with the web frontend
[15:26:26] stichnot: you're right, it doesn't work, goes back to the front page. (I remembered that I can run a backend/webfrontend on my laptop)
[15:28:05] stuarta: on a completely different note, i've managed to package beirdobot \o/
[15:29:09] stuarta: now i just have to see if it works or not
[15:29:56] stichnot: stuarta: in my recording use case, the kids will say, "Can you record the SpongeBob Spongetastic New Series? Please please?", so I search on the web interface, click on it, change a few default settings, and it's set.
[15:30:38] stuarta: pretty much the same here, mainly because I can do it from my phone, and turning on the frontend, requires stopping watching what we were watching
[15:36:10] stichnot: ok, I must be misunderstanding – I thought "i just could not fathom why you would redirect schedule creation to mythweb" meant that you prefer the frontend for schedule creation
[15:43:46] stuarta: i use both
[15:44:05] stuarta: just had absolutely no idea why you would send frontend users to mythweb
[15:44:27] stuarta: if i'm in the frontend, i use the frontend, and when on the web, i use mythweb
[15:49:23] stichnot: oh, I missed that detail in the original post. Goodness.
[15:49:39] stuarta: i'm not sure i explicitly wrote it
[15:50:20] stichnot: yeah, sorry, that clears everything up :)
