[11:49:21] warpme: stichnot: I agree with Your comment about centisec. After few days of normal FE usage I'm not anymore fan of this particular change. mediamonitor changes however are really nice (especially autoplay of audio CDs). Now I'm looking on DB caching area as this can speedup FE start. Mine on ION1 currently gets 10–15sec

[13:11:08] stichnot: stuartm: I think this is a Qt5 vs Qt4 issue. It looks like code that creates a non-ASCII QChar like this — QChar ch = 'é'; — actually creates a garbage character due to char sign extension, and something like this — QChar ch = QLatin1Char('é'); — is needed instead.
[13:11:30] stichnot: This shows up in cc608 and teletext which construct the strings one character at a time
[13:11:47] stichnot: I have no idea if other places in the code need this treatment

[13:48:16] stuartm: eugh, at least we're not switching QT versions very often, but issues like this can wreak untold havoc
[13:49:01] stuartm: not a rewarding job, but we should make an effort to track down places where this might be happening
[13:50:12] MythBuild: build #1599 of master-fedora-32bit is complete: Failure [4failed unit test core] Build details are at http://code.mythtv.org/buildbot/builders/mast . . . /builds/1599 blamelist: Jim Stichnoth <jstichnoth@mythtv.org >
[13:50:43] dekarl1: centiseconds in the OSD? showing frames instead of milliseconds in the cutlist editor OSD might actually make sense.
[13:50:46] dekarl1 is now known as dekarl
[13:51:11] stichnot: I'm not completely sure it's Qt as I've also updated Ubuntu which includes gcc update, but probably it's Qt5
[13:52:17] stichnot: dekarl: the cutlist editor does show the absolute frame number (assuming the theme presents that element)
[13:53:24] dekarl: I started to fix non-Ascii character literals, but could not come up with a non-manual way to do it. see
[13:53:25] dekarl: hmm
[13:55:06] dekarl: where did the master freebsd builder go? https://code.mythtv.org/buildbot/builders/0.2 . . . %20%28610%29 <- lots of non-ascii character literals
[13:55:18] stichnot: That test failure looks like a flake, any contrary opinions?
[13:56:46] dekarl: maybe: ../programs/scripts/unittests.sh: line 15: 14290 Segmentation fault (core dumped) ./$RUNNABLE
[13:56:53] dekarl: just see if it fails again

[13:59:34] dekarl: stichnot: oh, MythCenter-wide does not show that, but has millisecond resolution for the timestamp. I'm used to HH:MM:SS.frame instead
[14:00:32] gary_buhrmaster: stichnot: Looked like a flake to me, so I have forced a retry.
[14:00:55] stichnot: stuartm: Would be nice to have some static analysis tool that could point out all uses of QChar::QChar(char), in this case. As a bonus, filter out the instances where the char is an ASCII literal.
[14:04:01] MythBuild: build #1600 of master-fedora-32bit is complete: Success [3build successful] Build details are at http://code.mythtv.org/buildbot/builders/mast . . . /builds/1600
[14:05:10] stichnot: dekarl: I forgot about the centiseconds in the cutlist editor. I'm not sure the best way to use the frame number instead, since there isn't necessarily a new frame exactly at the second boundary. I guess one could just choose to round or truncate?
[14:05:14] stichnot: gary_buhrmaster: thanks!
[14:08:03] stuartm: stichnot: maybe something the KDE static analysis tool (krazy) might offer if it has been updated for QT5, also this tool may or may not spot those issues: https://www.kdab.com/automated-porting-from-qt-4-to-qt-5/
[14:08:36] dekarl: stichnot, with modern variable frame rate video its going to be "fun" either way :)
[14:10:36] dekarl: we can always start to use clang more and hack our own custom plugins... not sure if that makes sense at the moment though. Bigger projects already do this https://github.com/LibreOffice/core/tree/mast . . . lugins/clang
[14:11:22] dekarl: https://github.com/LibreOffice/core/tree/master/compilerplugins <- better link with README detailing the readonly and code-rewrite plugins
[14:12:45] gary_buhrmaster: stichnot: np. I (sort of) feel responsible when my builders do something "unusual". The logs show the host got a page allocation error. I recall seeing a bug related to this (requesting contigous pages in real memory when it was not needed). I'll have to go find it again, and see where it is fixed.
[14:15:49] stichnot: dekarl: Even with classical framerates like 29.97 there's the same issue. Probably just a matter of copying what the other guys do
[14:20:14] gary_buhrmaster: dekarl: I would offer a clang builder, but (apparently) my VM host is right on the edge (until the kernel bug gets fixed). When the F20 builder is retired (end of the month?) I'll see if I can get a clang builder running.

[14:58:53] joki (joki!~joki@p5B36DD6D.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[15:01:51] stichnot: stuartm: Another Qt5 difference I've noticed is that when we draw an MxN box with Qt::NoPen, what we actually get appears to be an (M-2)x(N-2) box with an invisible 1-pixel outline. That caused very noticeable visual problems with subtitle backgrounds, fixed in eda5d2e2. I think I'm seeing another instance in my theme – when I start watching a recording, the "Please wait" screen with a...
[15:01:52] stichnot: ...black background has a 1-pixel boundary of the main theme background showing through.
[15:03:25] stuartm: iirc there were similar issues in the move from QT3 to QT4, they can't seem to stop messing with the box model
[15:03:50] stichnot: heh
[15:04:48] joki (joki!~joki@p5B36C5C2.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has joined #mythtv
[15:04:50] stichnot: I can't think of a way to fix it in mythui, so I guess themes would need to be explicit about their pen
[15:06:08] stichnot: I guess most themes naturally avoid laying out un-bordered boxes adjacently
[15:07:22] stichnot: I'm not sure if this effect is visible in the guide grid, or it's "supposed" to look that way
