[11:33:29] stuarta: if you don't uninstall them in the reverse of the order you installed them, then they won't uninstall properly and you have to hack the code by hand
[11:33:47] stuarta: even then they don't necessarily uninstall cleanly
[11:50:35] stuarta: the alternate login mod is outright horrible

[12:32:05] stuartm: :/
[12:35:51] stuartm: any opinions here on appropriate hashing algorithms for etag? Beyond a certain size threshold it seems all algorithms are more or less equal and probably limited by read speeds, e.g. I tried the much vaunted xxhash on a recording and it turned in identical results to md5/sha1
[12:36:44] stuartm: need to write a test app that ignores time it takes to read the file in
[12:37:23] stuartm: although that doesn't help with the http server much anyway

[12:49:04] stuarta: stuartm: it can be as simple as an fstat and using the inode + timestamp
[12:49:44] stuarta: +size
[12:51:14] stuartm: stuarta: that's probably what we'll do for files
[12:53:41] stuartm: dynamic content still needs hashing though – definitely need to do some benchmarks of time to hash vs time to download, potentially the benefits of etag could be outweighed by the overhead for payloads of a small size
[12:55:13] stuarta: IMS doesn't work that well for dynamic content :-/
[12:56:04] stuartm: e.g. downloading a typical guide page takes 7–8ms on a local network, hashing (read from disk) takes between 4–8ms ... hardly worthwhile
[12:58:07] stuarta: nope, it's not worth the effort
[12:59:27] peper03: stuarta: Do you understand what the code in EITFixup::SetUKSubtitle is doing? I know you didn't write it but you commited the patches from #4327 but I'm none the wiser for reading that ticket.
[12:59:27] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/4327 **
[12:59:30] stuartm: even fstat can be slow, so it's a question of finding the appropriate size at which the benefits become apparent – for a GB sized file it's obvious, but for css, images and other static resources ...
[13:00:17] stuarta: tbh, just don't bother with an etag, and use IMS
[13:01:12] stuarta: the dynamic content you could probably cache in memory, until it's invalidated eg, by a reschedule
[13:01:29] stuarta: there isn't even any point saving it to disk
[13:02:56] stuarta: KISS principle applies big time here
[13:06:33] stuartm: caching dynamic content is off the cards for now, since it would require an entire framework to be created to invalidate the cached entries, doable but it will take time
[13:06:48] stuarta: i doubt it's worth the trouble

[14:28:36] stuarta: https://www.phpbb.com/extensions/writing/
[14:40:47] stuartm: oh well that's logical – google introduce new proxy, the idea that you browse everything via them – in return they make sure it's compressed (what sites don't compress by default these days?) and they get full access to your web traffic
[14:41:25] stuartm: meanwhile google is the same company lobbying for complete web encryption to stop people snooping on your web browsing ...

[16:58:12] stuartm: weird, not much has changed in the last few weeks, works here in all browsers (can't test safari, which has replaced IE as the slowest browser to adopt web standards)
[16:59:22] stuartm: warpme: might need you to look at logs, and for safari the browser console
[17:01:43] warpme: interesting: in services/guide.cpp there is 78–91 lines block commented.....

[17:32:18] warpme: hmm – empty guide is also on binaries compiled on 9/03... I'm really puzzled now. How this can be?
[17:37:10] stuartm: warpme: yes it's intentional, need to remove that section, it was replaced with the ChannelUtil::LoadChannels() line
[17:37:15] stuartm: warpme: corrupt database?
[17:38:50] stuartm: warpme: actually, now that I think about it, I can see a scenario where the switch to LoadChannels() would break for some people ...
[17:42:55] warpme: Hmm: I have test BE with 9/03 binaries. I kick reload EPG data from xmltv file via mythfilldatabase...and sitting in background Firefox magically show guide. Don't know was it related to mythfilldatabase run or rather it was coincidence...

[17:53:07] stuartm: warpme: it's related, we push events to the browser
[17:53:25] stuartm: when the guide data was updated we told the browser to reload the page
[17:55:53] stuartm: crap, not sure how to fix this guide issue, channum isn't an integer can so we can't reliably use it for excluding ranges
[17:56:03] warpme: just tried to replicate this on production BE. nope. still awaiting. Is it important that on production BE I reloaded xmltv like xmltiv loaded 6h ago? On test BE, DB with guide data wasn't updated weeks

[18:40:02] gigem: stuartm: I think I've finally thought of a reasonable way to do something you've wanted for a while. That is for the scheduler to send SCHEDULE_CHANGE events for only those programs that change. Another benefit is the schedule could be quried from the database without having to get it from the master scheduler.
[18:40:04] gigem: There are some disadvantages, though. The oldrecorded table and the RecordingInfo class would grow by about 8 columns/members. The latter could possibly be mitigated by adding a new, SchedulerInfo class to limit the growth to just the scheduler. It would probably also result in losing the ability to propogate recording statuses in "same program on different channel" cases where the other program really
[18:40:06] gigem: isn't scheduled. That wouldn't bother me, but I believe it probably would you.
[18:40:08] gigem: Anyway, this isn't high on my TODO list, so I don't know when
