[00:03:52] skd5aner: stuartm: do you have any recent screenshots of various screens/functionality within mythwebfrontend? For those of us not really equiped to run master to take a peak, I'd love to see what it currently looks like!

[00:05:18] skd5aner: Every time I use mythweb I'm reminded at how much better it is a both providing information and functionality that is just either not in the frontend, or that the web is a much more efficient interface for some activities. So I'm excited to see what wfe will bring to the table :)
[00:10:22] skd5aner: dekarl1: mythtv participated in GSoC around 2005ish. It didn't go very well because the scope of the projects for the partcipants were HUGE and the "mentors" didn't dedicate a lot of time to them. Very little of their code went in at the end of the effort.

[00:10:55] skd5aner: I think it "could" be a good idea for mythtv to participate again, but with a much more structured game plan, oversight, and guidance. It takes focus

[00:36:57] tolga9009: hi there, hauppauge released a Linux test driver for the HD PVR 2 1512 some days ago. Unfortunately, it's not available on their ftp anymore. Does anyone have a copy of it and could share it? I would like to study their driver.
[00:37:55] skd5aner: they did? That's pretty sweet
[00:39:00] tolga9009: yepp. I've seen some people on a mail list talking about it 3 days ago. The link was: ftp:/ftp.hauppauge.com/Support/Test/Lin/hauppauge_driver_src_ver5.tgz

[15:59:38] stuarta: it's like unpicking 20 interlinked onions
[16:00:56] gary_buhrmaster: stuarta: re: alcor. Yeah, it always is. I call it the attractive nuisance problem. If you have a system, people place random stuff, with random dependencies, with no real docs onto the system. I used to spend hours and hours cleaning that up (and trying to ensure people would not add them back).

[16:02:49] gary_buhrmaster: stuarta: And I understand, to some extent. I once started to talk about building dependency graphs. Peoples eyes glazed over.
[16:03:08] stuarta: i have one hard rule. it must be in a package
[16:07:05] gary_buhrmaster: stuarta: My rule(s) were slightly different, it had to be installed via the configuration management software (packages preferred, but some of our software was locally written, so the configuration management software had to build it dynamically if needed on a new install).
[16:08:14] stuarta: this time around i've added it must be able to be reproducibly setup via ansible
[16:08:19] stuarta: doing pretty well on that front
[16:10:44] gary_buhrmaster: stuarta: But the real problem was ill defined dependencies. X depends on Y which depends on Z which depends on X, all being on the same system, and all starting before the other. Because of retries, it *often* worked. I hated it. I split out the dependencies, allowed the services to be on different systems. Tested extensively with/out networking, communications. It worked fine. Six months later people added in new dependenci
[16:12:16] gary_buhrmaster: stuarta: I like ansible. But it was always more about having a tool than the exact one chosen.

[18:29:17] gary_buhrmaster: stuarta: I guess you sort of need them.... pkg-config --variable headerdir Qt<something> should at least tell you what you likely want to place first for Qt.
[18:30:34] stuarta: gary_buhrmaster: it has no problem finding the qt headers, its the fact that we have /usr/include before everything else, and fedora/opensuse qt4 have their includes in /usr/include, so when you reference
[18:31:31] stuarta: eg QtCore/QChar it'll pull in the qt4 version not the qt5 version

[21:47:42] jpabq: stuartm: Yes, Steppes uses that font. Instead of being 'narrow', it ends up drawing it large (and maybe even bold).
[21:48:43] stuartm: sounds like it's actually failing to load the correct version and falling back to the standard width one, logs with -v gui might reveal if that is the case
[21:49:10] jpabq: stuartm: yup. I will look into it when I have a moment.

[22:00:23] stuarta: stuartm: have you seen this blog post about Qt5 and it's OpenGL classes? http://tinyurl.com/ntofzer
[22:01:45] stuarta: found it quite interesting
[22:01:57] stuartm: no I hadn't, I was aware there were changes, but it wasn't something I was planning to deal with before the 0.28 release
[22:02:29] stuarta: i'm curious to know how well s/QGLWidget/QOpenGLWidget would actually work
[22:02:49] stuarta: not like there is a rush on that thought ;-)
[22:02:54] stuarta: *though
[22:03:03] stuartm: you can give it a go, but I'm betting it won't be nearly that simple
[22:03:12] stuarta: of course not
[22:05:02] stuartm: for a start we're not using QT widgets with GL, but rendering directly in GL, it's not clear from that blog post whether that's still going to work as it is now, or whether more substantial changes will be required
[22:06:51] stuarta: maybe that's what they mean by "Those who find the inheritance-based approach annoying, can always get a current context’s ready-to-be-used QOpenGLFunctions instance via QOpenGLContext::currentContext()->functions()."
[22:07:27] stuarta: i don't understand graphic programming tho, never taken the time to understand it

[23:44:33] jpabq: stuartm: I have a work-around for the font issue: http://pastebin.com/qLNSKLQm
[23:46:15] jpabq: qt5 fails to load the 'narrow' variant of the font, even though it is available. Using 'stretch' I can achieve a similar affect, but it is not identical implying that it is adjusting the 'standard' varient of the font instead of using the narrow specific version.
[23:55:24] jpabq: condensed is more 'narrow' than using the Narrow variant of the font. semicondensed is less 'narrow' than Narrow.
