[03:33:00] stichnot: stuartm: I tried changing MythPainter::DrawTextPriv() to call drawText() once to a QPixmap and then use drawPixmap() instead of drawText(), but there was little discernible difference in performance. So either I did something wrong, or I'm misunderstanding the performance issues. http://pastebin.com/aKBfDzRB

[10:39:43] jya: it also work with state (if state is showing no element, then the dependency is considered as hidden), same with groups, progress bar etc
[10:39:44] stuartm: yeah, but the header isn't available with --disable-mythlogserver
[10:40:12] jya: stuartm: oh… I can see why.. I would have disabled the -I ../mzq
[10:40:28] jya: I must have it still available on my linux box
[10:40:41] jya: it does work on my mac though, building in a jail

[10:40:52] stuartm: thanks
[10:41:57] stuartm: jya: I'd forgotten about the extension of depends ...

[10:52:17] jya_: stuartm: originally, I wasn't even including nzmqt.hpp; and had everything conditional , so no nzmqt was in use at all.. but then I thought that it would make libmythbase compiled with --disable-mythlogserver not compatible with other libs if for whatever reason you upgraded.
[10:53:03] jya_: so i reworked it to keep binary compatibility just changing the behaviour... it was a last minute change... I did compile it on two of my machines here with no problem
[10:57:01] jya_: paul-h: I've tried all the samples, they all work fine here.. my nvidia GT220 supports all frequency rate and bit size.. so I had no processing required
[10:57:11] jya_: so I modified the code and tried the following option.
[10:58:21] jya_: played them all using the following: with / without up mixer, forcing 48kHz sampling rate with and without up mixer; then forcing 48kHz, 16 bits output, with and without up mixer..
[10:58:24] jya_: all played fine

[11:20:31] knightr: (so it's not even connecting once and failing which it transfers the actual data...)
[11:20:55] jya_: surely, if you enable all the log, you would have an error somewhere, or some indication of what's going on
[11:28:58] knightr: I get "Downloading DataDirect feed", then "Added logging to mythlogserver at TCP:35327" followed by "DataDirect: Failed to get data: Download error". AFAICT, the last error is thrown when MythDownloadManager reports that there is a problem...
[11:30:29] jya_: that's with -v file,network --loglevel=debug ?
[11:31:34] knightr: argh, I had forgotten to set the loglevel...

[13:52:58] Captain_Murdoch: knightr, jya, beirdo added that authentication code. I don't see any issues with it after reading over the docs. we might need an actual network trace to see what's going on at the network level to see what we're sending and the server is returning, it appears the server may be asking us to re-authenticate over and over as far as I can tell from the way the code and callback work.
[14:03:21] knightr: Captain_Murdoch, I hadn`t looked at the code yet but I was beginning to wonder whether that callback was actually a timer of some sort since I didn`t seem to get any reply back (so I thought the callback couldn`t be called because I was actually receiving data...)
[14:06:43] knightr: what would be the best tool to use? tcpdump or something a little higher level? We use Fiddler at work which analyze HTTP traffic and it looks like a version of it exists for Linux too (it uses the Mono framework...)
[14:07:09] knightr: ttyl, gotta go back to work...
[14:07:48] stuartm: knightr: could use wireshark
[14:28:31] stuarta: many many many things can be solved with a raw pcap file captured by tcpdump
[14:29:59] stuarta: knightr: if you do use wireshark/tcpdump, make sure you actually capture the data to a file. then anyone can look at it
[14:30:19] ** stuarta has a pet hate of cut-n-paste tcpdump output. next to useless **
[14:31:03] clever: need to use -XXX or -A
[14:31:29] clever: or wireshark on the pcap files, or just wireshark directly
[14:31:52] stuarta: clever: capture first, analyze second
[14:32:09] stuarta: wireshark on the pcap files is a great thing :)

[14:50:23] clever: it can inspect and alter all http traffic passing thru it
[14:50:36] clever: and if you put its CA cert into the client, it can also do the same to https

[15:41:30] stuartm: I think some distros are probably going to do it anyway, so yeah
[15:51:18] stuartm: wow, I've got logs without needing a log server!
[15:52:52] jya_: :)
[15:53:40] jya_: it's a bit ugly right now... i re-used to two-thread approach used by mythlogserver.. so that makes it 3 threads to run the log.
[15:55:07] jya_: one thread that receive the LOG() stuff. one thread (LogServer) that starts another thread and an eventloop ; and a 3rd forward thread the dispatch the logs to the various drivers (file, db or syslog)
[15:55:48] jya_: I'm not sure I get the point of using a 3rd thread and not fit everything in the 2nd... but that way there was minimal change to the code
[15:56:26] stuartm: hmm, livetv is a FUBAR, as ever
[15:56:42] jya_: watching livetv right now.. works well
[15:56:55] jya_: what's wrong?
[15:57:29] stuartm: it works great, unless you hit any of the error conditions and then it goes to shit – error handling is still it's greatest weakness
[15:59:51] jya_: there are a few things not working well... rewinding between programs, pressing pause for too long... the issue of having to press pause when playback start from time to time...
[16:00:22] stichnot: And then when the frontend hits an error and aborts, the recorder automatically stops and you lose actual content
[16:00:29] jya_: but it's usable for most.. my wife certainly have lost complaining... except for the pausing
[16:00:32] stuartm: backend was a little slow at providing data to the frontend, so the frontend goes into a "Taking to long to read" spiral from which it never recovers even when data starts to stream, trying to pause to allow it to recover only causes the "Too long to read" errors to be joined with "Taking too long to pause", from there things really go downhill fast and eventually the backend just stops responding to the frontend which is now spewing "decoding
[16:00:33] stuartm: error eno: Operation not permitted"
[16:00:52] jya_: hahah
[16:01:51] jya_: haven't encountered that error of loosing content... at worse I return to the main menu with a "irrecoverable error" after 30ish seconds wait
[16:02:18] stuartm: _finally_ manage to leave livetv (which is progress, as in the past it would just stuck there), try to re-enter only to get an "All tuners busy" (no tuners were in-use)
[16:02:32] stuartm: have to restart the backend
[16:02:35] jya_: right... i'm off to bed...
[16:02:46] jya_: i haven't had that issue for a while now...
[16:02:49] stichnot: jya_: right, but what about the 30+ seconds of live TV content you will never get back? :)
[16:03:37] jya_: only with my test system with one HLS recorder... as it may take 10s for the backend to close the recorder.. that's how long it may take before you can re-enter livet
[16:04:07] jya_: to be honest, each time I look at the code for live TV, I'm wondering how it works.. and more importantly , why it works

[16:39:08] kwmonroe (kwmonroe!~kwmonroe@32.97.110.52) has quit (Read error: Operation timed out)
[16:39:37] knightr: stuartm, a first 401 is normal IIRC, that's what triggers the attempt with the credentials I believe but as you said once you tried once with a set of credentials and you still get a 401 it should not retry...
[16:41:57] knightr: So a simple authentication problem seemed to be something much bigger (library problem, etc...).
[16:47:55] knightr: (I knew that PC could communicate without problems with the webservice (and get data back), I had installed and used a tool we use at work to test our web services so the problem seemed to be Myth specific...)

[16:52:12] stichnot: stuartm: I don't know if you saw last night, but go ahead and fix #11786 for the release if you see fit, and I'll take care of any caption performance issues if they come up.

[19:42:53] peper03: Still can't get MythArchive to work. Added a couple of recordings but it seems to have problems spawning mytharchivehelper here: https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/blob/master/ . . . til.cpp#L257
[19:43:15] peper03: It's returning 139. If I run the command as-is by hand, it works fine.
[19:43:22] peper03: Anyone got any ideas?

[20:44:30] sphery: peper03: 139, assuming it's not GENERIC_EXIT_INVALID_TIME (from exitcodes.h), is SIGSEGV (128 + signal number of 11)
[20:45:07] sphery: can you maybe wrap mytharchivehelper in a script that sets up gdb or something?
[20:47:00] peper03: sphery: I just figured out what was going wrong. I have 0.26 installed via the normal packages and I run master from a directory under home via a small wrapper script. I hadn't set the PATH in the script, so the system call was trying to run the 0.26 version.
[20:47:09] peper03: And failing somehow.
[20:47:38] sphery: ah, maybe a mixed library version issue or something
[20:47:46] sphery: glad you figured it out
[20:47:56] peper03: Anyway, now I just need to work out how to get the Python script to import the bindings from the master installation. Otherwise I'm getting schema mismatch errors.
[20:50:15] peper03: PYTHONPATH looks promising...
