[01:52:23] jya: jpabq: what make you say so (that there's a leak..) it can grow big in size depending if the stream is a live one or not. If live the packets are expired as they are retrieved by the client, with VOD one, only the TS packets are expired when read, otherwise the segments definitions are kept in RAM (so it's easier to seek into the stream later)

[15:33:30] bobweaver: Hi there all hope all is well. I am at a cross-roads with my application. I would like to get some input. I am at the point where I am going to start making the IDE for Mythtv (altered qtcreator) here are some of the questions that I have. For the older themes that are already made in xml should I read these files of github or should I just download the xml and read that way ? Other question. Should there be a minamail template that is
[15:33:30] bobweaver: used to set up a theme so that users can hack and make one right away? If so should it be for all these ? qml , html5 and the old style of ui ? thanks for your time
[15:36:22] bobweaver: example of the gui editor running http://imagebin.org/265366
[15:38:29] bobweaver: example of it reading everything over the new (github) http://imagebin.org/265367
[15:38:41] bobweaver: s|new|net
[15:40:22] bobweaver: as one can see when it reads it over the new (xmllistmodel/ making ModelViews) it wont render it in gui (then menus and what not. but with all local stuff it does but it also fills up harddrive
[15:40:35] bobweaver: s|new|net
[15:41:39] bobweaver: Then there is the other option of using photoshop / gimp and then exporting each layer to become qml.

[16:01:47] danielk221: bobweaver: I recommend not doing the old style UI. The main advantage I see here is being able to do things like animations using ECMAScript instead of the kind of hard coding required for MythUI.
[16:02:16] bobweaver: thanks for your input danielk22
[16:02:48] danielk221: QML vs HTML5 I dunno. I'd prefer HTML5 if supporting that isn't much harder than QML.
[16:03:07] danielk221: If only because more people know HTML5 than QML.
[16:05:53] bobweaver: danielk22, yeah I mean it would not be that hard would just have to make it so all the mythweb stuff (logic) is linked and users could use them
[16:06:00] bobweaver: html5 ^^
[16:06:47] bobweaver: Other things that I am going to need help with are things like branding of qtcreator to be more "Myth-ifed"

[20:45:21] stichnot: xris: a mythtv-users list question about mythlink.pl and .srt files. It would be nice to delete/symlink any associated .srt, .sub, and .txt files (this list comes from the RingBuffer ctor).
[20:51:26] xris: wow, people still use that script? heh.
[20:51:38] xris: we create subtitle files for recordings now?
[20:58:37] stuartm: yes and no, danielk221 wrote something to create subtitle files for CC708, although I'm not sure whether we actually distribute that, it's a standalone thing though and not done automatically – what we do have built in now is the ability to use srt files for recordings
[21:01:58] stuartm: ok it is distributed – mythccextractor is the binary, iirc written under contract for a company who were after the capability
[21:04:32] stuartm: peper03: I see you pushed that patch, sorry for not getting back to you as I promised, today didn't turn out as I expected :(
[21:06:02] peper03: stuartm: np. I found a couple of smaller issues with it but I'm pretty confident it fixes the problem so I'd thought I'd get it out there for all to enjoy :)
[21:06:18] stichnot: xris: the OP is probably using http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Captions_with_HD-PVR (and I use it as well, though I don't use mythlink.pl)
[21:06:36] xris: ah
[21:06:50] xris: all of those scripts really should get rewritten to use the python bindings
[21:06:58] xris: then Beirdo and I could just kill the perl bindings
[21:07:07] stichnot: stuartm: mythccextractor doesn't quite create suitable filenames for mythfrontend to use
[21:07:31] peper03: xris: That would mean I'd have to learn Python! :-o
[21:08:32] stuartm: I keep thinking that tomorrow is going to be the day when things get back to normal and I'll have time to spend on MythTV, but since getting back from holiday there hasn't been one day where I can say that's been the case
[21:08:41] xris: heh. as a die hard perl dev, I thought I'd hate it. but it's actually my preferred tinkering language these days
[21:08:57] xris: stuartm: I thought the same. and 3 years later it's still unchanged.
[21:10:45] peper03: xris: I was late jumping on the perl bandwagon (never needed it enough until something came up at work). Seems just as I was jumping on one bandwagon, everyone else was jumping onto another :(
[21:11:07] peper03: perl does tend to be a write-only language, though.
[21:11:42] xris: only bad perl. python's definitely easier to follow, but perl's no worse than ruby or php if you write clean code.
[21:12:34] stichnot: peper03: For audio-only recordings, when the recording produces a correct seektable, are seeking/bookmarks/position/duration all working properly now? I've been trying to work through the seeking issues when a seektable is not present, but I'm not sure I'm going to solve that for the release. If everything works with seektables, I would instead put my energy into fixing mythcommflag --rebuild.
[21:13:05] stuartm: python's not so bad, I found myself having to use it again recently but for me the biggest issue is that it doesn't really seem to offer anything which sets it apart from Perl, in some minor respects it's better and yet in others it's different just for the sake of being different (at the cost of ease of use)
[21:14:21] peper03: Hmm. Maybe I have the wrong mindset for it. I do my best to keep it clean, but I find complicated structures are a pain to implement/understand afterwards. I suddenly end up with arrays of hashes of hashes etc. I have no problem with pointers/references in C/C++ but perl gets me every time!
[21:19:25] stuartm: what bothers me most about perl these days is the state of the various modules, someone needs to run a broom through CPAN, clear out unmaintained projects, knock together a few heads and merge projects, have the guts to say some modules need to be redesigned from the ground up
[21:20:50] jheizer_ (jheizer_!~jon@c-98-226-220-178.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv
[21:20:57] peper03: stichnot: Yep. New recordings (so ones with a seektable) seem to work fine in all respects.
[21:21:16] stuartm: I started writing the coverity report script in perl, until I discovered the available soap modules were utter crap at which point I switched to adapting an example python script instead
[21:22:47] stuartm: to be fair though, SOAP is hideous, I'd managed to avoid it until that point, but as someone once said, SOAP is neither simple nor a protocol – I can't understand how it managed to become so popular

[21:25:20] peper03: I think I'll need a bigger project to force me to learn python. Same as with perl. Until there's a reason I just tend to fall back on what I know.

[21:35:44] stichnot: peper03: Thanks. I'll focus on fixing mythcommflag --rebuild then.

[23:39:56] jya: using a QRunnable does the same work…. and yes it works :)
