[15:07:26] peper03: jya: Re: #11649 – Do you have ESC mapped to TV Playback/BACK? The idea in this case is to jump to the title menu, if there is one, otherwise to the root menu. I assume with your particular DVD, the title menu is the opening 'Warning' etc. screen.
[15:07:26] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/11649 **
[15:08:07] peper03: The problem you're seeing may be related to[b16ccb64] (https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/b16ccb64) too. That relaxed the definition of a menu. The BACK binding is only used if we're not in a menu.
[15:14:05] peper03: natanojl: I noticed playback of the LOTR sample in the Box repository has started stuttering in the title menu using VDPAU playback. The problem seems to have been introduced with[4f023d722] (https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/4f023d722) but for the life of me, I can't work out why as that just improved bookmark support.
[15:14:33] peper03: natanojl: If you have a free minute, could you see whether you are experiencing the same issues?
[15:16:20] jya_: peper03: yes… I use ESC all the time… seems that ESC escape DVD playback only when I'm on the main DVD menu; anywhere else, it just restarts playback from the start
[15:21:17] jya_: peper03: title menu open the menu no, not the warning screen
[15:26:26] peper03: jya_: It depends on how the DVD is authored. 'Title menu' is really just a marker. Jumping to the 'Title menu' marker is really just a special type of GOTO. There may be a real menu there, or there may be another GOTO.
[15:27:06] jya_: peper03: don't know… let me try with another DVD… was in the middle of trying to get BD playback working on my mac.. so I may only do that tomorrow
[15:27:47] peper03: jya_: I would expect that you won't see that behaviour with all DVDs.
[15:29:05] peper03: jya_: I'm not sure what the best solution is off the top of my head. Reverting [b16ccb64] (https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/b16ccb64) would make skipping over the 'Warning' crud at the beginning harder again.
[15:29:13] peper03: I'll have to think about it :)
[15:29:26] jya_: peper03: I can't really skip that warning anyway
[15:29:36] jya_: it's like a series of 5–6 videos, 6s each
[15:29:50] jya_: one is a screen about how bad you may be
[15:30:02] jya_: the other is a screen for other country with similar meaning
[15:30:11] jya_: then a screen about who produced the DVD.
[15:30:12] peper03: jya_: You should always be able to navigate directly to the root menu.
[15:30:15] jya_: and only then the menu
[15:30:19] jya_: yes.. I can
[15:30:26] jya_: not the root menu though on this one
[15:30:31] jya_: root menu goes to the beginning
[15:30:38] peper03: same a title menu?
[15:30:51] peper03: same as
[15:30:56] jya_: title menu show me a screen asking me if I want to enable subtitle for hearing imparted, and then show me the menu
[15:32:30] peper03: Sounds like it's the way it's authored. Could you attach a trace -v playback --loglevel=debug to the ticket. Might give me a better idea of what's going on.
[15:33:21] jya_: wil ldo
[15:33:38] jwhite_ is now known as jwhite
[15:33:51] jya_: i don't even know what the DVD is :) I grabbed one in a box (I've packed them all before my renovation, and I haven't unpacked my disks yet)
[15:34:14] jya_: was just testing displaying of errors on the frontend..
[15:36:54] Tobbe5178: is there any chance of getting the fix described in http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/11277 also commited to 0.26-fixes ? or maybe it is considered too trivial to apply to 0.26-fixes?
[15:39:59] peper03: jya_: BTW, I played briefly the other day with your notification stuff. Looks nice. The only thing I noticed was that when I tested it, the video underneath had very pale skies, which made the white text very hard to read. Maybe the background needs to be a touch darker?
[15:40:39] jya_: peper03: this depends on the theme ; it uses the default background define for windows
[15:41:41] jya_: problem is that most theme I've tried use a transparent black background (with low alpha value) with white text
[15:43:09] peper03: I only tried it on MythCenter, which is probably using the same values as what you've seen.
[15:43:50] jya_: actually I found steppes to have the best looking notifications.
[15:43:55] jya_: even if not intended :)
[15:48:11] peper03: Don't know if there's much that be can done about it generically but I thought I'd mention it as you might not notice it if the background is always dark.
[15:49:04] peper03: Oh, I also noticed a couple of new warnings about a 'now' variable being assigned a value but then not used. Don't know whether you'd seen that or even fixed it already (I'm a little behind head at the moment).
[15:49:18] jya_: peper03: that's gone in recent code
[15:49:24] peper03: Ok.
[15:49:53] jya_: was using this to make the fading out during video playback
[15:50:22] jya_: but as it was crashing during playback, i commented out the fading.. so the "now" was now unused

[17:22:48] natanojl: peper03: I'm a bit tired after two hours of beach volleyball but I'll take a look later :) I've noticed though that Halloween H20: 20 Years Later does not work with VDPAU. http://imagebin.org/263681 The patches come from the video and flicker a lot. Audio and subtitles are ok though.
[17:25:41] peper03: natanojl: np, have a rest first :) I think I know what's happening but no idea why it only seems to occur once the bookmark patch is in as it has nothing to do with that. I've synced back and forth several times between that commit and the preceding one ([b670ba578]) and keep getting the same results. Just need a sanity check, really :)

[18:54:36] peper03: jya_: I created a ticket with patch (#11244) a while back to display a popup if no DVD was present and the user selected 'Play a DVD or Blu-ray'. I know stuartm wanted to hide that menu entry if no disc were present. The popup worked in general but read errors (as opposed to no disc) would also result in the popup being shown.
