[04:20:47] stichnot: sphery: I pushed a change that you can use to make Undo and Redo always show up on the culist editor menu even if no undo/redo action is available
[04:21:24] stichnot: and for you, I think I'll add a cutlist editor "compact menu" :)
[04:23:35] stichnot: I was looking into changing every OSD menu in tv_playback.cpp to use these menus, but I changed my mind since most of them are really really simple and changing to xml menus just adds unnecessary complexity and is overkill. And who needs to customize e.g. a menu with choices "OK" and "Cancel"?
[04:25:20] stichnot: These themed menus are good for very commonly used menus that have a justification for customizing, and also for hierarchical menus where you get the benefit of BACK moving up in the menu hierarchy instead of closing the menu dialog (as is the case currently in the playbackbox).

[11:47:37] sphery: stichnot: Nice. And yeah, it's always annoyed me that we have a couple different "kinds" of hierarchical menus--some where back goes back and some where it closes the menu. It's great that you're cleaning that up and making them consistent inside and outside playback (and I prefer the go back approach vs close). Thanks.
[13:02:34] superm1: dekarl: that should all be fixed in master packaging now and not be needed at all
[13:27:12] stichnot: stuartm: I misspoke about OK/Cancel. If you search for DialogShow in tv_play.cpp, most have 3 or fewer buttons, either unconditional or very simple conditionals. It would be hard to make that any simpler.
[13:30:03] stichnot: sphery: I'll likely revert the menu_cutlist_exit.xml change, because really, who needs to customize a simple exit dialog?

[15:06:40] gigem: sphery: AISTR, the "two menu" complaint was mainly centered around our unusual use of INFO (and RIGHT) as the second "menu" key. In addition, we had separate, logical screens for watch and delete and didn't have a PLAY action back then, so using SELECT for play or delete made some sense at the time.
[15:07:52] jya: jpabq: did you see the issue about changing channel in LiveTV following cherry-picking https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/71ad6 . . . 5307d4cd88a8
[15:08:16] jya: from the user, cherry-picking https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/edefe . . . 2793acb22d34 fixes the issue
[15:10:40] jpharvey (jpharvey!~jpharvey@host86-149-151-144.range86-149.btcentralplus.com) has joined #mythtv
[15:12:06] sphery: gigem: Ah, yeah, it was INFO, but I think if we go back (regardless of which key is used), we'll end up with the same complaints (or even more when SELECT works differently--it will break someone's workflow ( http://xkcd.com/1172/ )). That said, I'm all for it and willing to keep trying to educate people on its benefits because the separate main and context menus make sense, and I like being able to decide which I get without moving the cursor ...
[15:12:12] sphery: ... around.
[15:14:49] gigem: sphery: As I noted earlier, if/when I get to it, I'll likely allow key bindings to allow either behavior.

[15:42:02] stichnot: sphery, gigem: I haven't thought this through too deeply, but it seems like the two-menu issue could generally be "solved" by offering both a complete menu and a compact menu in that context.
[15:45:16] stichnot: e.g. I might bind the Menu button to the complete menu action, the Info button to the compact menu action, and Select to the SELECT or "I'm feeling lucky" action.
[15:50:46] gigem: stichnot: Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. In addition, the "complete" menu would likely be optimized for accessing the "non-compacted" functionality.
[15:53:01] stichnot: gigem: right, and if someone doesn't like our choice of optimization, they can just tweak the xml.
[15:54:19] gigem: Yep.

[16:13:31] sphery: dekarl: mind if I take #11512 (add default recording template support to mythweb)? It's not a complete patch--misses 2 other areas--and I was going to backport to 0.26-fixes since users have started poking the old setting value in their db's
[16:13:31] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/11512 **
[16:13:58] sphery: I actually have some time to work on MythTV, finally
[16:18:50] sphery: oh, and fwiw, I already have the settings removal part, so just need to put the settings-setting part in for the 2 places the patch misses
[16:34:13] SteveGoodey (SteveGoodey!~steve@host86-140-98-12.range86-140.btcentralplus.com) has joined #mythtv
[16:38:33] dekarl: sphery: feel free to take it, i just claimed it as I was talking about it with paul lately
[16:39:38] dekarl: actually I wanted to commit to master's dbcheck an update to remove the old values once everything has been moved to templates
[16:39:49] sphery: thanks. I've been meaning to take it since I guilted paul into writing the patch for me, but have been traveling way too much for work
[16:41:37] sphery: I'd say if we're going to do setting value removal, someone should come up with a list and put the list in a comment at the bottom of dbcheck.cpp's doUpgradeTVDatabaseSchema(), and I'll remove all the values in the list in a single version change just before I do the initial DB schema rollup before release
[16:42:07] sphery: and note that there are tons (literally many tens) of old, no-longer-used settings values that we've never taken out
[16:42:34] sphery: I, personally, like leaving them in so that people who do direct DB editing of settings have to actually know what they're doing and/or look at the code
[16:43:00] sphery: but I would be happy to clean them up if that's the approach others want to take
[16:50:58] Merlin83b (Merlin83b!~Daniel@2a00:1ee0:3:1337:6520:8097:2622:f411) has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[16:57:33] dekarl: I'd like to clean them up sometime to get them out of the way when debugging stuff. (And so that stuff breaks early when the setting is still used somewhere)
[17:05:07] sphery: well, FWIW, we knew that this one wasn't removed from MythWeb, but expected someone to get around to putting in template support long ago so we figured we'd leave the old code there "for a short time", but people started recommending direct DB editing to poke the old value in (so, in hindsight, we'd have been better off just removing the code to encourage someone to do the right thing)
[17:05:47] sphery: generally, when a setting is removed, we do a good job of removing it completely through grep'ing the code
[17:07:16] sphery: anyway, either approach is fine with me... but I do recommend a single db update per cycle rather than one per setting
[17:44:54] bobweaver: Is there any way to get some xml from the themes ftp site ?
[17:48:33] bobweaver: what i mean is there any xml or json api for the themes that bring back a page like this one ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/mythtv/themes/trunk/ but with more data (screens author info ect )
[17:52:17] bobweaver: NM I found it http://themes.mythtv.org/themes/repository/tr . . . hemeinfo.xml Just kinda wish that I could get a full spread
[17:56:16] bobweaver: Like so the path would be something like http://themes.mythtv.org/themes/repository/tr . . . hemeinfo.xml
[18:14:29] dekarl: do we have a preferred way of silencing unused parameter warnings? (looking at cppcheck and noticing the node=node warning). I see (void)parameter in the code, qt has Q_UNUSED but the safest way appears to be simply to remove the parameter name, leaving only the type.
