[13:37:12] ptarcher: Thanks superm1, I had just downloaded part of the mythtv as a zip
[13:37:24] ptarcher: I'll try build again when I get the chance.
[13:37:34] superm1: ptarcher: cool that should work too
[13:37:57] superm1: those are the same scripts we use for building daily packages too
[13:38:07] ptarcher: For anyone following my vdpau endeavour I have been talking to mark kendall, the guy who wrote most of the vdpau support in myth
[13:38:46] ptarcher: and it seems two fold. mesa gallium3d does not support deinterlace support
[13:39:17] ptarcher: So this will make a video seem blurry, especially when myth is expecting the hardware to be performing the deinterlacing
[13:39:48] ptarcher: And the second is that mythtv is dropping frames on 1080 HD videos, which was seen by using mythfrontend.real -v playback
[13:40:09] ptarcher: However when playing the video in mplayer using ffmpeg, it has no trouble
[13:40:14] ptarcher: So the plot thickens
[13:40:36] ptarcher: Does anyone know if ffmpeg and mythtv video rendering is even similar in the least?
[13:40:55] ptarcher: Is there some reason why mplayer would work without a hitch, but mythtv struggles?

[13:44:01] ptarcher: thanks :D
[13:45:42] Seeker`: ptarcher: Where is the video located?
[13:47:46] ptarcher: Seeker`, not sure what you mean, but on my PC. Its just a show that I recorded off my TV tuner card
[13:47:55] ptarcher: mpeg2
[13:48:17] Seeker`: ptarcher: I was asking because on mythtv it goes through the storage group. Does it do the same with mythavtest?
[13:48:38] ptarcher: What is mythtvtest?
[13:49:00] ptarcher: running now
[13:49:03] Seeker`: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythAVTest
[13:49:40] ptarcher: it jumps to an SD channel... (which still has the deinterlacing problem)
[13:50:29] Seeker`: mythavtest /path/to/recorded/file
[13:50:49] ptarcher: ahh sweet, ill give that a go now, and get some frame rates etc
[13:52:20] ptarcher: yeah exactly the same
[13:52:33] ptarcher: drops just as many frames, just as jumpy etc
[13:52:40] ptarcher: audio skips, video skips
[13:55:47] ptarcher: If anyone is interested, here is the log output from mythavtest
[13:55:48] ptarcher: http://pastebin.com/64vtJaRe

[13:57:02] ptarcher: Does mythtv use ffmpeg already?
[13:58:32] ptarcher: so I seem to answer my own questions, yes yes it does
[13:58:57] ptarcher: now I am even more confused as to why mplayer, which uses ffmpeg works fine, but mythtv, which uses ffmpeg doesn't :/
[14:00:39] Seeker`: ptarcher: you don't think all of the errors might have something to do with it?
[14:00:52] dekarl: because the vdpau rendering code is different for mythtv and mplayer?

[14:06:47] ptarcher: Seeker do you mean the vdpau errors, about 5 of them?
[14:07:01] Seeker`: ptarcher: the ones about an invalid handle
[14:07:14] ptarcher: dekarl, is the rendering not done by ffmpeg?
[14:07:30] ptarcher: Seeker`, I'll post part of an email that mark kendall sent me
[14:07:38] ptarcher: he explains those errors
[14:08:10] ptarcher: The first error you're seeing is related to drawing a theme bitmap, so isn't necessarily relevant to playback (I'm assuming that is only displayed when the OSD is visible?)
[14:08:10] ptarcher: The second error is seen when creating the mixer device that actually draws and processes a video frame. I'm guessing it's because the gallium driver doesn't expect 'null' parameters or feature setting. It is probably harmless but if the picture is genuinely blurry, this may be the cause.
[14:08:38] Seeker`: ptarcher: also, does this belong in mythtv-users?
[14:08:41] ptarcher: First error "VDPAU: Error at mythrender_vdpau.cpp:1388 (#3, An invalid handle value was provided. Either the handle does not exist at all, or refers to an object of an incorrect type.)"
[14:08:41] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/3 **
[14:08:59] ptarcher: 2nd error "VDPAU: Error at mythrender_vdpau.cpp:850 (#4, An invalid pointer was provided. Typically, this means that a NULL pointer was provided for an 'output' parameter.)"
[14:08:59] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/4 **

[14:09:57] ptarcher: well its a bit of both. I mean I am trying to develop mythtv to get it to work with mesa, gallium3d and vdpau, but at the same time I am not talking about the new feature I am planning on trying to get merged....
[14:10:57] ptarcher: I am a computer engineer by day, so I know C very well, I just don't know how the rendering of mythtv/mesa/vdpau works
[14:12:15] ptarcher: Oh, I also wasn't really looking for support at the moment, just thought the devs might like to know as I had asked for some help orginally on VPDAU with UVD on AMD, and now its moved to gallium3d with VDPAU
[14:12:51] stuarta: we always appreciate any work in that area
[14:12:53] ptarcher: but I am happy to move to mythtv-users if this is bad/annoying for you guys, I am the new kid on the block, so happy to be where its best
[14:13:36] stuarta: you are fine here if it's not support you are after :)
[14:13:53] ptarcher: Thanks stuarta, this is why I love open source. When I am able to read the source for mythtv, ffmpeg, mesa etc its fantastic to be able to close the gaps
[14:14:21] stuarta: being able to close those gaps is a skill
[14:14:43] gigem: tafy: Thanks for testing.
[14:14:46] ptarcher: I still have plenty of caverns still :(
[14:15:55] ptarcher: I'll leave you guys to it, thanks for the tips on mythavtest, and also for the general chats. night all

[15:00:23] superm1: ah yeah i guess that will work, not pretty – won't pull every single one if one changes, but should get most
[15:01:08] dekarl: uber-un-pretty as it require entering the password some time after the script starts => its not fire and forget anymore
[15:02:06] superm1: https://github.com/MythTV/packaging/pull/26 was attempting to come up with a better way t
[15:02:23] dekarl: I still have http://pastebin.com/VRqKsRDn in the queue, is that still of use?
[15:03:20] superm1: i don't think so, tgm4883 was looking into some changes. tgm4883 is that fit still ^
[15:04:02] superm1: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/raring/en . . . ddeps.1.html i think might be a better replacements
[15:07:01] dekarl: hmm, but that will just tell you what is missing instead of installing it
[15:08:15] superm1: ok i think i have an idea, sec
[15:08:17] dekarl: lol, mk-build-deps: You must have equivs installed to use this program.
[15:08:17] dekarl: After all I'm using it to install deps, why doesn't it fix that itself?
[15:13:26] superm1: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5622897/ something like that
[15:21:22] tgm4883: superm1, yea that still works
[15:21:32] tgm4883: 30 is fine, I think that is actually what I use
[15:21:41] superm1: but is there a reason that's needed now?
[15:21:49] tgm4883: although dekarl will probably want the other change too
[15:21:56] tgm4883: superm1, the timeout stuff?
[15:22:03] superm1: the increased timeout stuff
[15:23:07] tgm4883: superm1, IDK. Upstream couldn't decide how long was a good enough time to wait before killing it
[15:23:51] tgm4883: superm1, all it does, is when you stop the job it sends mythbackend SIGTERM. If mythbackend doesn't shut down within 30 seconds then it sends SIGKILL
[15:24:00] superm1: oh
[15:24:02] tgm4883: superm1, so most users shouldn't even see it take that long
[15:24:12] superm1: so all it could really do is make the shutdown take longer
[15:24:17] tgm4883: I've never seen it take longer than 5 seconds myself
[15:24:23] tgm4883: superm1, exactly
[15:24:34] tgm4883: superm1, and only if mythbackend isn't shutting down for some reason
[15:24:55] tgm4883: I mean if it isn't responding to SIGTERM
[15:25:50] tgm4883: superm1, my testing has shown it to always stop when requested within 2–4 seconds, but I'm on a Q6600, so IDK if a lower power machine will take much longer
[15:26:08] tgm4883: superm1, it doesn't hurt anything to leave it that way though (with the 30 second timeout)
[15:26:24] superm1: ok
[15:26:29] superm1: so might as well commit that to master then
[15:26:34] tgm4883: yes
[15:26:53] tgm4883: I've had zero issues with the other fix as well
[15:27:03] tgm4883: although I've not heard back from you, rhpot1991 or mrand1 yet

[18:04:14] stichnot: sphery: http://pastebin.com/bZcyp05m is my latest mockup of an xml menu specification of the Playback menu. It's also helpful in that it exposes many of the rough edges in the current implementation, such as action naming consistency.
[18:05:54] stichnot: My current thinking is that the button text strings will stay in tv_play.cpp as the default strings, and then they only need to be in the xml file to override the default.
[18:06:05] stichnot: knightr: this means no new translation work :)

[18:23:57] gigem: sphery: My personal favorite is the local hack I put in for ADJUSTSTRETCH. Press once to enter adjustment mode. Press again while in adjust mode to toggle. One remote key then provides quick access to toggling and small adjustments.

[18:45:46] stichnot: sphery: your super-context-sensitive cutlist editor menu is going to cause me trouble :)
[18:49:56] sphery: stichnot: hehe, yeah, it can be modified as needed for this feature--I still haven't figured out a good way to do your "only show undo/redo if appropriate" without changing the number of items (so that you can edit via muscle memory with MENU|UP|UP or whatever), so totally rethinking it could actually be good
[18:51:08] sphery: that said, it's basically just 2 menus, but some items are shown conditionally depending on current location, so it seems it could work with your "define everything and show only what's appropriate" approach you mentioned
[18:52:20] sphery: gigem: that's cool.. I have ADJUSTSTRETCH and TOGGLESTRETCH mapped on my remote, but your approach would allow just one button... might be worth making that the default behavior of ADJUSTSTRETCH when the slider is displayed...
[18:54:48] Sharky-Sleep is now known as Sharky112065
[19:09:53] gigem: sphery: The change is super simple (http://pastebin.com/7qzmjiwc). If nobody objects, I'll commit it. FWIW, it's cases like this that make me think we should consider nested contexts for keybindings. For example, a TV_Playback/Stretch_Adjust context might make such a change possible without any code changes.

[19:31:59] stichnot: sphery: apart from the amount of context that goes into the choice and labeling of edit menu buttons, the frame number is also embedded in the action name...

[19:56:15] gigem: stichnot: Thanks.
[20:05:23] sphery: stichnot: ah, yeah, that was a carry over from the previous implementation... would make sense to rework it so that the frame number comes from the context rather than getting passed as part of the ui/view stuff
