[02:18:37] stichnot: When the recorder sees a framerate change in a packet, does it affect the length of the frame currently being processed, or does it only take effect with the next frame?
[02:38:56] danielk221: stichnot: dunno. Any idea who committed that? I'm guessing iamlindaro, beirdo or taylorr. If it was taylorr you'll probably get an answer fairly soon. But if it was Beirdo you're better of writing an e-mail.

[03:09:13] stichnot: danielk221: I didn't look at the git blame yet. It probably doesn't really matter, except that I'm obsessed with getting durations to match between the recorder and the player. :)
[03:12:05] danielk221: :)
[03:13:28] stichnot: Basically I want to know whether (in dtvrecorder.cpp) UpdateFramesWritten() should be called before or after the block that calls FrameRateChange(). Currently UpdateFramesWritten() precedes FrameRateChange().
[03:13:48] stichnot: I think that's probably the right order.
[03:14:26] danielk221: I think so too.
[03:15:06] danielk221: But there is the one frame delay of I frames in ffmpeg...
[03:16:12] stichnot: what's that about?
[03:18:01] danielk221: Heh, it doesn't usually matter. But sometimes when you need to display a particular frame, like for a DVD still frame, you need to call decode_video twice. I think it is just an artifact of how ffmpeg handles buffering internally.
[03:18:58] danielk221: When decoding B frames you need to have two frames in the buffer, always having the delay in there probably makes for a simpler invariant.

[13:46:20] stuartm: seems that ISO639Language0 and ISO639Language1 settings are no longer used?
[13:48:23] stichnot: I thought those were used to bias auto track selection
[13:51:04] stichnot: e.g. decoderbase.cpp calls iso639_get_language_key_list()
[13:57:18] dekarl: stuartm: I think the EITScanner uses it too
[13:57:27] stuartm: they were originally added for closed captions only, but these days everything save one little bit of BD code uses the main 'Language' setting instead and converts that to whatever format is required (ISO639 2 digit, 3 digit etc)
[13:58:04] stuartm: dekarl: greping the source shows they aren't used
[13:58:36] stuartm: I was surprised since it means we don't support a fall back language for audio/subtitle/EIT
[13:58:50] dekarl: its via iso639.cpp -> eitscanner.cpp -> eithelper.cpp
[14:00:36] dekarl: ending up here, if I followed the data/calling path correclty, http://code.mythtv.org/doxygen/mpegdescriptor . . . .html#l00111
[14:03:04] stuartm: ahh, ok I was grepping for ISO639Language0 but it builds the string from ISO639Language + integer
[14:03:20] stuartm: think I've made that mistake once before ...
[14:03:34] dekarl: so you can even have ISO639Language2 :)
[14:04:15] stuartm: yep
[14:06:17] stuartm: more coffee I guess
[14:12:56] stichnot: I dislike these built-up setting names for just this reason...
[14:14:16] neufeld (neufeld!~user@69.165.173.139) has quit (Quit: ERC Version 5.3 (IRC client for Emacs))
[14:25:59] peper03: stichnot, danielk221: Regarding calling decode_video, the function description state 'Codecs which have the CODEC_CAP_DELAY capability set have a delay between input and output, these need to be fed with avpkt->data=NULL, avpkt->size=0 at the end to return the remaining frames.'
[14:27:31] peper03: I'm sure it's down to B-frames, but I don't think still DVD frames *specifically* need decode_video calling twice. It's more that the buffer should be emptied. As I understand that comment, it *may* be necessary to call decode_video several times to empty the buffer.
[14:28:03] peper03: I guess it depends on how whether more than one B-frame appears in succession.
[14:28:15] peper03: s/on how/on/
[14:30:16] peper03: The same comment appears for decode_audio. Technically, Myth should check the capabilities of all streams and drain the buffers at the end of playback to ensure every single frame (whether audio, video or whatever) is played.
[14:30:23] stuartm: peper03: knocked up a quick patch to set the region mask and it appears to allow some discs to play that wouldn't previously play correctly
[14:31:08] stuartm: it's hardware specific, these discs wouldn't play with my Blu-ray/DVD drive but would play with the DVD-RW in the same machine
[14:31:33] peper03: stuartm: Interesting. I wouldn't have expected many discs to be affected by tht. I only know of those using RCE protection that actively check the region code.
[14:31:55] peper03: And RCE was only used on a handful of region 1 discs.
[14:32:09] stuartm: peper03: I think it's only rental DVDs I've seen with this problem
[14:33:01] stuartm: I wish I'd tried this earlier, I'd have more data
[14:35:21] peper03: stuartm: Do those DVD report any valid region if you call dvdnav_get_region_mask? My understanding was that you can tell which regions a given DVD is authored for by calling that. RCE discs return 0 (i.e. 'region free') as the VM code is used to check.
[14:35:24] stuartm: ok, worked with one rental disc but not the other, hardly conclusive :(
[14:36:05] stuartm: peper03: both discs report regions, one reports 2 the other 2 + 5
[14:40:19] peper03: stuartm: Very odd. There's a debug output in decoder.c at line 110 when the DVD tries to query the region code. It's an fprintf but you could try changing it to log via Myth and see whether the DVD is really querying it.
[14:40:31] peper03: If it isn't, it doesn't explain why it suddenly works, though.
[14:42:39] peper03: I think XBMC handles this by setting the region code of the VM to whatever the DVD reports, with a user setting to override it as necessary. I had intended doing something similar but it's lower down on my list :)
[14:42:45] stuartm: the other part of the patch set the preferred languages, unfortunately that doesn't seem to do anything useful here, I was hoping it would skip the language prompt on some DVDs
[14:45:14] peper03: Yeah, it's probably going to depend very much on how each individual DVD was authored. I think the DVDs that ask you probably won't change their behaviour as a language is already set by the VM. It's just set to 'en' by default.
[14:45:32] peper03: See vm_reset in vm.c
[14:46:40] peper03: Setting the preferred language will probably only be noticed/appreciated by those users who *don't* want English as the default language.
