[00:09:38] taylorr: peper03: if I can find some time tonight I'll update the library – is this serious enough to warrant a backport to -fixes?
[00:17:39] peper03: taylorr: Probably not. The missing NAV packets problem only occurs when there's more than one angle (e.g. some titles, particularly from Pixar, use angles to show titles in different languages). I've not noticed serious playback issues yet, though.
[00:18:59] peper03: We don't do much processing when we get a NAV packet event, but it could have knock-on effects on other events as the end of a VOBU is being miscalculated.

[17:58:51] stichnot: taylorr: jpabq_: Continuing into this HD-PVR "missed frame" problem in the player. AvFormatDecoder::PreProcessVideoPacket() calls AvFormatDecoder::H264PreProcessPkt() and uses the return value to determine if (I think) an entire frame is present and therefore should increment framesRead. H264PreProcessPkt() calls m_h264_parser->addBytes() and then checks m_h264_parser->stateChanged() and...
[17:58:53] stichnot: ...m_h264_parser->onFrameStart() to determine whether on_frame is true. It looks like the same logic is used in DTVRecorder::FindH264Keyframes(). For whatever reason, DTVRecorder is determining on_frame but AvFormatDecoder is not.

[18:54:12] taylorr: stichnot: I'm guessing "K" means keyframe... but I'm not sure
[18:54:34] taylorr: might want to look at AVPacket struct in ffmpeg header file and see if it has a flags field
[18:56:21] taylorr: stichnot: doesn't -show_packets dump the individual 188-byte TS packets and not the fully assembled packet?
[19:00:01] taylorr: nm, looks like they are the fully assembled packet
[19:00:07] stichnot: Judging from the large size= values, it's fully assembled.
[19:02:32] taylorr: stichnot: that 175-byte sized video packet just seems odd
[19:03:15] stichnot: I agree. I thinks that's the smallest of the missed frames. The other missed frames are less than 400 bytes.
[19:04:29] taylorr: stichnot: might be the packet and not the parser's fault... especially if the recorder is using the same code

[21:04:41] peper03: danielk22: AvFormatDecoder::ProcessVideoPacket calls avcodec_decode_video2 twice in the case of a still frame. After some debugging, it seems that ffmpeg *always* delays an I-frame by one frame, returning the previous frame for the first call. Is that normal? It even delays it on the very first frame even though there's no previous frame to return in that case.
[21:06:55] peper03: I've not found anything in other players (VLC, XBMC) that obviously calls avcodec_decode_video2 twice. I'm curious how they handle it. It would be nice not to have to have that extra handling.
