I had a server in my DMZ setted up to do some more exhaustive tests but my firewall blew up (it was a PC) before I had a chance to do them... [12:26:57] stuartm: must admit I'm curious about how Pootle works, e.g. whether once there is a satisfactory translation of a string it can be locked
[12:27:28] knightr: stuartm, I still have to do some tests to make sure the format is OK, apply fixes, etc and as soon as it's on Alcor that will no longer be a possibility....

[12:28:33] knightr: it can always be changed...
[12:28:58] knightr: which is a good thing since translators don't always get it right...
[12:31:55] knightr: another thing with Pootle (unless they fixed some limitations it has) is that some of the modifications I am making (context changes, etc...) need to be done before we start using it otherwise translators will have to redo some of their translations (context changes are handled pretty well by lupdate for example but not by Pootle...)

[12:36:54] knightr: there is a concept of approval of the translation but people who can approve can always change it later...
[12:49:18] stuartm: knightr: my concern is that a translator who may be fluent does get it right but it then gets changed by someone who doesn't understand the language so well
[12:56:13] stuartm: crowd sourcing is a great idea, but we don't want a situation where more time is spent policing changes than is spent actually translating
[12:59:11] knightr: stuartm, the way it works we could open access to submit translation to everybody but only let the current translators approve the translation OR only let the current translators submit and approve..
[12:59:24] knightr: s/translation/translations
[13:00:14] knightr: ie we have control over who has the last word over each of the translations...
[13:00:57] knightr: it can even be done on a per translation basis...
[13:02:35] knightr: (ie the Polish translator could decide he wants to let people submit translation suggestion while the Spanish translator could decide he only wants his team to be able to submit and approve...)
[13:06:54] knightr: once I rebuild my firewall I could give you access to my Pootle server, the reason why it was in my DMZ was to be able to give access to people not in my home network access to it... for now I would prefer to still have access to tweak the software which won't be possible once it's on alcor (a situation similar to the wiki translation were I have people interested in doing it but nobody who could update the wiki software currently has the time
[13:06:55] knightr: or the will to do it...)

In particular I think they changed DefineWindow behavior with respect to column lock.

[14:21:51] stichnot: danielk22: thanks. So far I've found the wikipedia CEA-708 article to be very good. e.g. it says 708-C assumes row/column locking. The idea in our code of expanding the window buffer when rows increases but clearing it when columns changes or rows decreases just looks like a mistake that never got fully tested.

[18:41:20] jheizer_: Bah I can't find a buffer level that the kindle can relaible stream. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes before it drops, but it eventually does.
[18:42:09] jheizer_: So pain to test. iPad does fine. Android/Amazon just needs a larger buffer on the player.

[21:00:16] peper03: stichnot: I've finally managed to create a sample DVD that can be used to reproduce the problem. Look in stuartm's repository for 'StillToVideoToMenu.iso'.
[21:03:09] peper03: In most cases https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/blob/master/ . . . fer.cpp#L607 will cause the ringbuffer to wait for the player again but in this case the condition (which makes my brain hurt) remains false.

[23:48:44] knightr: stuartm, no problem and as you can see I was also away for a few hours as well. what you said is more or less what I had in mind and there's also the hybrid between the two solution of letting people offer suggestions but let our approved translators decide to accept them or not. for unmaintained or very incomplete translation letting people submit translations directly is better is good but there comes a point where we need approved translator
[23:48:44] knightr: s to ensure consistency throughout the translation..
