[01:44:42] Captain_Murdoch: wagnerrp, I see symlinks to files/videos as a different issue. I'd propose a 'symlink' table saying path 'X' is a symlink to File ID 'Y' since we wouldn't want to open a symlink first if we know where the actual file is stored at. for either issue, we should store relative path in the main table along with a 'last found Directory ID' to store the Storage Group directory where we last found/accessed that file to make it so t
[01:44:42] Captain_Murdoch: hat we can find it quicker (and not spinup drives unnecessarily) next time. another issue is how to handle separate actual files with the same hash. are they copies or independent files (ie, the same file in 2 DVD images). I wonder about storing the base filename as part of the hash. if it's a symlink, we still use the actual base filename, not the symlink name. things could get complicated if we pretend that two real fi
[01:44:42] Captain_Murdoch: les are one entry in the DB when we get down to things like deleting, reporting on disk usage, etc.. I'm sure there are other gotchas with that as well.
[02:19:12] wagnerrp: Captain_Murdoch: there is also the similar issue of files showing up on multiple hosts, because the partitions are mounted over NFS
[02:59:22] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, that would/could cause issues with the 'last found dir' as well if people don't mount on the same location on all machines.
[03:07:10] wagnerrp: im planning on getting the scanner in place in the near term, and then play around with it for a bit interfacing it to the video library
[03:07:29] wagnerrp: it will likely be easier to figure out some of these details once there is something to experiment on
[03:58:17] johnjacobjingerh: is there development for a better browser based front end that isnt mythweb?

[11:08:37] stuartm: there is a mythweb replacement being created, and it will support http streaming (HTML 5)
[11:09:06] stuarta: we've not thought of just adding html5 vid streaming to mythweb?
[11:09:21] stuartm: it's unlikely to use flash, or at least rely on flash since Adobe are killing it off
[11:09:45] stuarta: not to mention platform support for != windows sucks
[11:10:01] stuartm: stuarta: could do, but since mythweb is unmaintained and the new html interface is being worked on, it seems like a distraction
[11:10:24] stuarta: there is a new interface? where is the code?
[11:10:28] stuartm: if someone wants to do it we're not going to stop them
[11:10:46] stuarta: there's not a lot that actually needs maintaining with mythweb
[11:10:50] stuarta: imho
[11:11:31] stuartm: it's actually quite broken in places – no-one bothers to update it anymore when changes are made to the backend e.g. scheduling etc
[11:11:44] stuarta: hmmm. i quite like it
[11:11:56] ** stuarta might have to find his php coding hat **
[11:12:39] stuartm: stuarta: new one aims to be even better, and won't break so easily because it's part of the backend written in C++ and not a language that some devs have no experience of
[11:14:13] stuarta: ah you mean that. i see
[11:14:46] stuartm: stuarta: variously in libmythservicecontracts/ libmythprotoserver/ and programs/mythbackend/services/ ... a few others places too, it's spread out
[11:15:44] stuarta: stuartm: i thought you were referring to a new standalone mythweb, i now realize what you were referring to and i know where it lives (roughly) and can fish around for the other bits
[11:19:17] stuartm: stuarta: ok
[11:19:50] stuarta: i really need to try and get opengrok working on mythtv sources
[11:19:56] stuartm: fwiw, I'd like to get a servicable mythweb replacement up and running for 0.27, but I don't yet know if I'll have the time to work on it
[11:20:36] stuarta: well if the backend httpd has decent webservices api's we can transition the old mythweb to fill in the gaps
[11:20:53] stuartm: might not be a complete replacement even if I do get it done, but scheduling, recording management at a minimum

[13:57:45] danielk22: for a developer tool master makes more sense to me than stable...

[13:58:45] danielk22: BTW Thanks for setting up the MythSocket windows builder. I just checked in something that I hope will fix the build.

[14:08:07] danielk22: Sorry for the noise, I've either never knew, or totally forgot about that feature.
[14:09:00] stuartm: not really sure that's the best way of handling switching versions, it means you can give everyone the same url to a file but potentially they will be looking at different versions
[14:09:16] stuartm: branch should be part of the URL, not stored in a cookie

[18:26:21] stuartm: heh, so AWS has been down for hours now and several major websites with it, not for the firs time either, so why exactly is the cloud so great then? Seems not only that the redundancy promised by the cloud is complete rubbish but you also place your business critical infrastructure in someone else's hands and you can only twiddle your thumbs when there's a problem

[18:54:01] danielk22: stuartm: The real benefit of the cloud is renting instead of buying, everything else is window dressing. Being able to rent 10,000 machines for an hour to do your load testing sure beats buying 10,000 machines for use for an hour every couple weeks.
