[00:03:29] skd5aner: Beirdo: I can write something up, but I've been extremely disconnected this entire cycle... what do you want me to highlight?
[00:04:00] Beirdo: I dunno off-hand  :) I'm too buried in work right now to even think about it
[00:07:38] skd5aner: Beirdo: sorry, I'm going to have to pass this time – I can't do it justice since I don't know what to "sell"
[00:08:34] skd5aner: That, and I have a 102 degree fever, so I'm not really in the mood to try and research the key stuff tonight
[00:08:54] skd5aner: congrats to all the devs on releasing!
[00:13:45] skd5aner: next time, though, I wouldn't push a release until you already have the communications ready to go... looks a little unprofessional when users discover that a release is out there but no official mention of it on the main page or the mailing list
[00:13:59] skd5aner: imho
[00:29:06] Beirdo: oh God. Yeah, if you're sick, especially... no problemo

[15:29:14] danielk22: stuartm: beadle: There has been talk of unifying the tables on the backend which I think would a good thing to do, but for the UI the general belief is that videos map to 'archive' and watch recordings maps to 'first-in-first-out cache' so combining them could cause confusion. I don't buy that, but then again I have maybe six recordings in the video screen; I'm not really an archiver by nature.
[15:29:28] danielk22: (with entertainment anyway).

[15:38:05] stuartm: for me it's a matter of access, if my DVD and home videos are all together with my recordings, how does it get sorted? By title/episode number/date? Is there a chance that among the noise created by all those videos I overlook a recording I wanted to see and it subsequently is expired unwatched?
[15:38:16] rsiebert_ (rsiebert_!~quassel@g225061245.adsl.alicedsl.de) has quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds)
[15:41:11] stuartm: although I own a number of DVDs/Blurays and box sets, in general it's stuff I've already seen and feel I might like to watch again on a wet winter weekend, it's of lower viewing priority than the contemporary recordings that are constantly accumulating, most of which are watched & deleted within days of recording

[15:51:11] skd5aner: I honestly think metadata is the key either way...
[15:52:59] skd5aner: if content can be succesfully flagged as "TV (recorded), TV (purchased), Movie, Home Movies etc." then you can appropriately leverage those tags to display the content however you'd like
[15:54:33] skd5aner: Right now, I use folder heirarchies to achieve this in MythVideo... and it works well, but if things become "flat", then how will dsc0001.mov from my old point-and-shoot camera be sorted amongst other media...

[15:56:25] stuartm: if it's done it has to be done so that users don't have to spend time fiddling with filters each time they want to browse just their home videos, as it stands now in 'video' you can just put all of that into a folder called 'Home Video' subdivided maybe by year '2007', '2011' – they remain physically separated on disk which is important if you want to send a copy of a file to Aunt Edna and I don't need to fiddle with a filter dialog through a
[15:56:27] stuartm: remote control to access just the videos from 2010
[15:57:27] stuartm: and no-one wants to spend time setting up new filter 'rules' for each new category of video they start storing, or recording, or buying
[15:58:12] skd5aner: stuartm: exactly... and in my case I use symlinks a lot for my pics and home videos

[17:36:35] superm1: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1258472/
[17:36:45] superm1: is there something specific that's supposed to be done for that?
[17:37:11] danielk22: superm1: did you do a git pull? it should be there already
[17:37:22] superm1: i did do a git pull but it wasn't showing up
[17:37:26] superm1: maybe that's what's going wrong
[17:38:06] danielk22: Creating a branch called "fixes/" requires you be in the release group. But the fixes/0.26 branch already exists here for me.
[17:38:25] superm1: after i did git pull and then git branch -a I didn't see a remote fixes/0.26 branch, so i must not be pulling something right

[17:40:37] danielk22: yeah, looks like it didn't get created there...
[17:41:54] superm1: ah okay, i'm not too crazy then :)
[17:42:57] danielk22: yeah, beirdo, stuartm or myself have to create it. I don't recall ATM how to do it with the release script so you'll have to wait for one of them to do it.
[17:44:15] superm1: Ok
[17:44:33] superm1: i'll turn off our builds for tonight so we can get this properly sorted out

[18:51:07] stuarta: 1002 to be exact. 991 on the f17 build
[18:51:46] stuartm: stuarta: I might be wrong but I think he's intentionally enabled some additional warnings so that we can work on fixing them for 0.27
[18:52:53] stuartm: yeah, here we go – 14230c6 Re-enable "-Woverloaded-virtual" so we can fix these for 0.27.
[18:52:57] Captain_Murdoch: stuartm, I think the 'combined' Videos & TV view can have toggles on a popup menu just like we have now for toggling categories, titles, etc. in Watch Recordings. I think the best way to do it would be to display recordings in the Videos section, not vice versa. that could be a 'Show recordings' toggle on the Videos popup menu so users could see their current TV shows alongside archived DVDs of that same show.

[21:33:01] ** stuarta shakes his fist at channel reorganization **
[21:35:51] Beirdo: what now?
[21:36:37] stuarta: oh they have been moving channels around on the muxes as part of the transistion to analogue switchoff
[21:36:51] stuarta: they've buggered up the transportid's within the EIT data
[21:36:55] Beirdo: ooooh, I thought you meant IRC channels or something :)
[21:36:59] stuarta: i don't know if it's intentional
[21:37:11] Beirdo: or incompetence?

[21:42:24] stuarta: ah see, i've taken a different approach so far...
[21:43:17] stuarta: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1258953/
[21:44:00] stuarta: literally just modified get_chan_id_from_db to drop back to a non tsid match
[21:44:07] stuarta: if it fails the first time around
[21:44:59] Mousey: question, is 0.26 in debian unstable?
[21:45:10] stuarta: i think we've been 2 whole releases without me even looking at my tickets :(
[21:45:14] dekarl: you'll likely never notice the difference as collisions in the service_id domain are relatively few. (I would have expected to seem more collisions for service_ids like 1, 2, 3 etc)
[21:45:55] stuarta: dekarl: i felt it better to use a full match if it exists and then work back taking lesser matches
[21:47:18] stuarta: there is some other stuff we can definitely pull from your patches, the stuff about pulling the NID and TID from the tuned SDT
[21:47:29] stuarta: when they come out as 0
[21:47:35] dekarl: Sounds like a good workaround. Your variant would work for messed up EITo, too. while my variant should work for any EITa only
[21:50:44] dekarl: aye, the part with accepting whatever SDT we get in case of 0/0 in the DB could be extended to populate the multiplex data in the database. Might help with red button when the channel scanner did not pick up ONID/TSID
[21:51:46] stuarta: i am tempted to reimplement auto channel scanning, but only for "approved netid's" a bit like how we do the fixups.
[21:52:38] dekarl: for setups that receive multiple transmitters? e.g. avoid multiple copies of transports etc
[21:55:33] stuarta: nah for things which constantly reorganize their channels, like satellite services
[21:55:47] stuarta: they are a royal pita to rescan. takes forever
[21:56:50] stuartm: there was actually nothing wrong in principal with the old autoscan, it was just the way it was implemented, the way it would wipe out stuff like xmltvid, icons and sometimes change channel ids breaking 'this channel' rec rules
[21:57:20] stuarta: there are a *lot* of gotchas to beware of
[21:58:57] stuarta: dekarl: looks like i had already tried your v2 patch and it didn't help my situation
[21:59:16] dekarl: is the reorganization instant? e.g. the service is removed from the old transport and added to the new transport at the same time using the same service_id? might be nice to have a passive scanner for that.
[21:59:18] stuartm: yeah, e.g. if it is reimplemented it needs to account for channels taking the numbers of other channels – i.e. we note that Channel A on Mux A has moved to LCN 15, so we update it, but Channel B on Mux B is already on LCN 15, so we probably have to scan all muxes and gather information on all changes before making the updates instead of updating each mux ad-hoc
[22:00:30] dekarl: stuarta: thats strange as it does the same thing your patch does (different implementation but with the same change of ignoring tsid)
[22:00:57] stuartm: in which case a purely passive scanner might be too slow, too hit and miss, maybe an active scan once a day in the early hours of the morning
[22:02:12] stuarta: stuartm: there are things called serviceMoveDescriptors which tell you about the reorg
[22:02:13] stuartm: as stuarta noted though, even an active scan of satellite is slow
[22:02:42] stuartm: stuarta: ah cool, I'll have to read up on that then
[22:03:13] stuarta: yeah they did actually think about things like that
[22:03:50] stuartm: apparently, I'm very impressed
[22:05:29] dekarl: Why is a scan of satelite slow? Is it due to the mass of transports? Or because you have to wait for timeouts in full scan? Just searching for the first NIT and then switching to just scan the frequencies of that NIT might be an option.
[22:05:59] stuarta: that is the only option, and it's still painfully slow
[22:06:21] stuartm: timeouts don't help iirc, but yeah the sheer number of transports is a significant factor too
[22:06:34] stuarta: i did have a plan in my head to provide initial seed data
[22:07:46] stuartm: even an existing transport scan is slow, i.e. when we're only scanning a fixed list of transports, so only scanning the frequencies in the initial NIT isn't really going to improve things enough
[22:09:57] dekarl: I vaguely remember issues wrt some sections not being picked up when they exceed one TS packet in size when scanning. but thats more then a year ago and on cable... Just getting the scanner fixed so you can scan Free*view* twice without restarting mythtv-setup would be a big step wrt cleanup.
[22:10:00] stuarta: that is how you have to initially set it up. pick a frequency and just scan it in order to pickup the other muxes, and then do a known transport scan
[22:10:29] stuarta: dekarl: i didn't think you needed to restart it these days.
[22:11:06] dekarl: stuarta, I was trying to say that some data structure appears to collect cruft which breaks the second scan
[22:11:14] stuarta: ah right
[22:11:33] dekarl: hoping that fixing "that" might help with the first scan
[22:13:09] stuarta: i thought i fixed something like that where it was collection partial tables
[22:15:55] dekarl: there was #10054 which helped alot with scanning cable over here
[22:15:55] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10054 **
[22:25:32] superm1: Beirdo: the missed packaging caused our autobuild thing to get a bit overzealous with it's fallbacks. people probably got a 0.27pre build for one day and it will be fixed for tomorrow now
