[02:04:19] skd5aner: sorry – been offline a while, is there a target release date/window?
[02:04:50] skd5aner: curious from a release notes standpoint – I might make some changes and want to make sure they are in before release
[02:05:41] Beirdo: RC is tentatively planned for tomorrow
[02:06:15] danielk22: skd5aner: There really shouldn't be any more changes. We'll cut an RC tomorrow and if all is good that will be the release. Any changes would be a bug fix which would probably not be release note worthy.
[02:07:02] Beirdo: The official announcement of final release would then be next Wednesday (assuming no bugs from the RC
[02:07:16] Beirdo: right?
[02:07:27] Beirdo: let it stew a week, then declare final?
[02:07:36] skd5aner: Well, I was thinking of tweaking the top section of the release notes – I'm not sure they read very well from a user's perspective... most of the key new features aren't really key new features and it's written from a technical standpoint, not really a user standpoint
[02:08:01] danielk22: Yeah. I'm not really expecting anything to pop up, we've had a pretty uneventful beta.
[02:08:13] Beirdo: yeah
[02:08:22] skd5aner: I know I don't have a lot of room to critique since I was out of the equation this go around, and Bill stepped up... but I'd like to ensure that at least that top section reads well, because it's often quoted in blogs and nrews releases
[02:08:40] Beirdo: heh, makes sense to me
[02:09:30] Beirdo: you can always roll the more technical changes into "several internal changes" or the like
[02:09:54] skd5aner: I don't mean to come off overly critical of Bill's effort- I'm glad he stepped up! But when I was doing the 0.25 release notes I decided I almost wanted to "dumb it down" in the future to highlight the things that matter most to the users, and this seems like a very verbose copy and paste of the commit logs almost
[02:09:56] Beirdo: I leave the technical writing to those who know how to actually do it :)
[02:10:02] skd5aner: better to have too much info, than none though :)
[02:10:16] Beirdo: yeah
[02:11:13] skd5aner: anyway – if you are cutting RC tomorrow, I might take a stab at it tonight, but really prior to actuall release makes the most since
[02:11:43] Beirdo: yeah, at the least, you have a week :)
[02:11:58] skd5aner: I just bought a new house, so I'm in a middle of a move, for the second time in 2 months :P As well as a new job, so needless to say, I'm a bit pre-occupied
[02:12:03] Beirdo: that's assuming nothing major pops up, but as danielk22 said, not really expected
[02:12:13] Beirdo: yike
[02:12:15] Beirdo: s
[02:12:53] skd5aner: Yea, it's been a really wild ride for about the last 15 months (since my daughter was born) and the last 4 months have been straight up chaos
[02:13:18] Beirdo: my life has been fun enough with just a new job :)
[02:13:41] wagnerrp: she become mobile
[02:13:41] wagnerrp: ?
[02:14:13] skd5aner: Yes – the only thing that makes her happy is when we aren't holding her and she can run away from us... a little too independant already :/
[02:14:16] Beirdo: now to code up my DMA controller.
[02:14:37] Beirdo: I think she needs one of those kiddie leashes :)
[02:15:13] skd5aner: If someone could invent a humane "invisible fence for babies" solution – they'd be billionaires
[02:15:21] Beirdo: hehe
[02:15:25] Beirdo: they are called "walls"
[02:15:35] skd5aner: not very invisible though
[02:15:38] Beirdo: true
[02:15:44] skd5aner: but yes, gates are nice
[02:15:55] Beirdo: unless it's 2" thick glass or something
[02:15:56] wagnerrp: little kids are intelligent in a destructive manner
[02:16:08] skd5aner: wagnerrp: no joke – truly amazing to observe
[02:16:09] wagnerrp: the "invisible fence" would last all of 37 minutes
[02:17:40] skd5aner: Yea, if we could all be the sponge learners we once were as children
[02:17:45] Beirdo: I had a wicked cool idea just before falling asleep last night... now if I could remember what it was
[02:18:31] skd5aner: Beirdo: I'm still trying to remember what I really wanted to order from Amazon Prime tonight so that I coudl receive it by Friday, but for the life of me I can't remember it :-/ Just remember I wanted it before the weekend
[02:18:48] wagnerrp: cattle prod?
[02:19:00] Beirdo: hahaha
[02:19:03] Beirdo: ZOT!
[02:20:06] skd5aner: BTW – funny story, moved from a TWC area (CCI nazis), to a comcast area (Copy Freely!! Prime records everything I could possibly want) to Brighthouse Networks (CCI nazis again)
[02:20:28] skd5aner: I've had a taste of the "good life" and now I have to go back to having a next to worthless HDHR Prime again :/
[02:20:42] Beirdo: why'd you buy a house there then?
[02:22:01] skd5aner: you sound like the guys I was talking to at SiliconDust... unfortunately, it wasn't a big enough disqualifier from my wife's perspective – because she just says that I'll have to make sure I can record "her shows" regardless of how easy or hard it may be
[02:23:32] skd5aner: I did honestly take a step back though and say to myself "Has MythTV really gotten to the point in my life that it would impact a real estate transaction?" and the scary part is that the answer was basically a yes, because it was one of the criteria we looked at
[02:24:21] Beirdo: for me, yes. Also internet providers
[02:24:33] skd5aner: That has got to sound really crazy to any outsider, since it sounds crazy to me – "I can't live here because I cna't easily use the DVR I want to in the way I want to"
[02:24:35] NightMonkey (NightMonkey!~NightrMon@pdpc/supporter/professional/nightmonkey) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[02:24:51] Beirdo: quality of life issue
[02:25:12] Beirdo: if it makes you happier or less stressed... it's worth something
[02:25:15] wagnerrp: what about... "I can't live here because the local cable company is a bunch of uptight, anal bitches"?
[02:25:44] Beirdo: ahhh, Puerto Rico :)
[02:25:48] skd5aner: well, internet is a go/no-go criteria... it's my livelyhood, and that did eliminate some areas entirely
[02:27:21] skd5aner: Well, their customer service has actuallyt been really friendly. The installer stayed around for an hour after he was done because he wanted to learn more about the prime and cablecards and SDV and why I couldn't record TBS but I could record NBC... etc
[02:27:59] wagnerrp: so they're not uptight, just ignorant?
[02:28:10] skd5aner: I think their website mentions that customers can actually contact the president of the company if there's issues with policy, etc. I might give it a go, but I'm not holding my breathe that anything will change (or that they'll even understand the argument)
[02:28:43] Beirdo: invite the president to a barbeque.. then show him MythTV :)
[02:28:51] Beirdo: then he'll understand
[02:29:03] wagnerrp: i hate nights like tonight
[02:29:04] skd5aner: wagnerrp: well, I'm not shocked that an installer would have no idea what a CCI flag is and why it'd work Tivo, but not mythtv or "Tivo-to-go"
[02:29:38] wagnerrp: just humid enough for the concert across the river to be audible and annoying
[02:29:47] wagnerrp: but not humid enough to actually be able to listen to it
[02:30:15] wagnerrp: so its in that realm of unmaskable noise
[02:33:44] skd5aner: That's funny – I bet I know what venue you are talking about, saw a concert there circa 2004
[02:33:55] skd5aner: er, maybe even earlier than that
[02:34:04] wagnerrp: riverbend?
[02:34:32] wagnerrp: just up river from coney island
[02:34:52] wagnerrp: "just", meaning they share parking lots
[02:35:05] skd5aner: yup, pretty sure

[15:33:23] Beirdo: sure
[15:33:37] Beirdo: one sec, let me get on the right box here
[15:34:45] Beirdo: first, it expects that you have the following repos all checked out and as subdirs of one dir: mythtv, mythweb, extras
[15:34:55] danielk22: k
[15:35:20] danielk22: locally or on code.mythtv.org ?
[15:35:28] Beirdo: then, make sure that you have the mythtv and mythweb ones up to date, and with no remaining uncommitted changes
[15:35:31] Beirdo: locally
[15:36:28] Beirdo: then from the directory above the repos, you run extras/releasescript/release.sh
[15:36:34] Beirdo: with one argument
[15:36:38] Beirdo: sorry :)
[15:37:00] Beirdo: so in this case: extras/releasescript/release.sh 0.26-rc
[15:37:26] Beirdo: basically, it will take that version, put it into the version.h
[15:37:48] bill6502 (bill6502!~bill@2002:cdb2:1a2b:7cd3:9ef4:32ea:c6ea:200) has joined #mythtv
[15:38:00] Beirdo: then it will check that in, and tag both repos, push it all... then creates the tarballs in a "release" directory
[15:38:31] Beirdo: scp the tarballs (plus md5sum files) to alcor:/opt/ftp and yer done
[15:38:56] Beirdo: got tired of forgetting steps, so we bit by bit made it more automatic
[15:39:17] danielk22: What about the fixes branch how do I create that ? When I tried to push that yesterday the commit hook failed.
[15:39:30] Beirdo: what were you pushing?
[15:39:48] Beirdo: fixes/0.25 should work
[15:40:07] danielk22: fixes/0.26
[15:40:12] Beirdo: fixes/0.26 isn't supposed to be made until we push 0.26 (i.e. final)
[15:41:14] danielk22: ? We've traditionally branched the release tree out before final.
[15:41:37] Beirdo: for that one, once we have released 0.26, then branch fixes/0.26, and then edit the version.h to say 0.27-pre and tag v0.27-pre on master (make sure to use git tag -a)
[15:41:45] danielk22: Doesn't matter much this time around though, I don't expect it to be very delayed.
[15:41:56] Beirdo: that changed for 0.24, I think it was
[15:42:16] Beirdo: yeah, I expect it won't make much difference, but just in case something horrible happens :)

[15:43:06] Beirdo: OK, no prob
[15:43:08] Beirdo: :)
[15:43:26] Beirdo: you are now in that list, so it should work should you choose to do it
[15:44:29] danielk22: I'll do the RC after lunch. I want to give it a try, it's been a long time since I tagged any release.
[15:44:55] Beirdo: cool. Hopefully it goes smoothly.
[15:45:10] Beirdo: if not, we'll just slap it upside the head and make it right
