[05:15:38] markk: Beirdo: enough is enough. next time have the courtesy to ask before reverting several hours worth of my time.
[05:17:32] Beirdo: markk: oh please.
[05:18:10] Beirdo: You do realize it took hours in the first place to get that working, and you reverted several hours worth of my time.
[05:18:29] Beirdo: and I did mention that it was broken, about a day after it was committed
[05:19:11] Beirdo: it was a major regression, and it needed fixing. Sorry.
[05:19:12] markk: yes – and we agreed that re-inventing vnc was a complete waste of time.
[05:20:07] Beirdo: it is a feature that people try to use, and really it doesn't hurt to have it working.
[05:20:15] markk: more stupid code complexity for a half-baked, ill-conceived feature that will get used by approximately 2 people.
[05:26:22] Beirdo: Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. As one of the approximately 2 people who will use it regularly for remote debugging... anyways, adding one signal/slot and being able to pass in a known filename, and putting back jpg support is not really THAT much complexity in the end
[05:26:58] Beirdo: most of the complexity is in creating the pixmap correctly and in the right thread

[06:12:58] Beirdo: you tell me another way (without getting really funky) of blocking the HTTPServer thread while waiting for the screencapture to complete in the UI thread
[06:15:26] Beirdo: ignoring the filename difference, that is the main gist to what I put back.

[14:51:46] Beirdo: stuartm: Yeah, there's a new recording to add to the list, so it rebuilds the whole thing... at least that's what it looks like to me.
[14:53:06] Beirdo: anyways, I don't have any solid ideas on how to make it better, but I went down the rabbit-hole to see if I could find out why it was taking so long in there
[14:55:33] stuartm: hmm, I thought we'd fix it so that even new recordings were just appended to the list but apparently not
[14:55:50] stuartm: should be an easy fix
[14:56:48] Beirdo: OK :) I leave it to those who understand that code better than I do :) Adding logging to narrow it down is easier than making it work :)
[14:56:51] Beirdo: for me

[14:58:29] zombor (zombor!~zombor_@kohana/developer/zombor) has joined #mythtv
[15:01:41] sphery: Beirdo: Well, adding such logging is /now/ easy--since the new logging has microsecond resolution and provides info about which thread is doing what and where it is in the code and ...  :)
[15:02:09] Beirdo: heh, and doesn't significantly block the thread either
[15:02:12] Beirdo: yeah
[15:02:39] sphery: in the old logging, we wouldn't have even seen those differences since it only has millisecond resolution

[16:16:40] sphery: stuartm: TTBOMK, the microsecond should be the default. His logs were -l logs (which are formatted differently--with thread and location info--from "console"/stdout logging)
[16:17:09] sphery: though I think he added specific log messages to catch the timing on this (might be worth putting in master at some debug verbose level, though)

[16:18:52] okolsi: Beirdo: mythpreviewgen does not 'inherit' logging options like syslog none while it probably should?
[16:20:30] stuartm: sphery: it's the -l logs that I'm looking at
[16:21:05] stuartm: and I was merely wondering whether all the additional info was a default for those or not

[16:45:21] mrand (mrand!~mrand@ubuntu/member/mrand) has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[16:47:47] sphery: stuartm: Yeah. I think the plan is to default to syslog logging off, eventually, since syslog logging is something that will usually only be wanted when started by system start scripts (which can specify syslog logging on the command line). For now, all three (console or file logging, syslog, and database logging) default to on so we can get some good testing of them before the release.
[16:48:26] stuartm: ah ok
[16:48:48] sphery: we'll likely leave db logging and console or file logging enabled, though--db logging will allow users to easily see log output from any application on any host (as soon as I finish the service API log viewer)
[16:49:00] stuartm: well I've disabled it in my init script for now since it had made the last 48 hours of syslog unusable :(
[16:50:05] sphery: heh, yeah, ideally when using syslog logging, the syslog configuration will be updated to handle it appropriately (another reason it probably won't be enabled by default for the release)
[16:54:29] jams: what are the thoughts for release timeframe?
[16:54:38] jams: weeks..months ..years ?
[16:55:07] wagnerrp: months
[16:56:23] stuartm: aye, months
[16:57:26] jams: thx
[16:58:46] stuartm: not to dismiss any of the features added so far but I'm not really sure we've got enough new stuff to make for an interesting release and there are things which are far from complete such as the html setup
[17:01:34] jams: got all the windows open to work on a enhanced myth-smolt server, but motiviation is lacking atm. Mostly just making sure something wouldn't be released next week.
[17:01:53] wagnerrp: no, definitely not next week
[17:02:03] wagnerrp: we usually have at least a month of feature freeze before release
[17:02:31] jams: heh that is true..forgot about that
[17:02:34] wagnerrp: and there will probably be at least another month's warning to developers to get their stuff in prior to that
[17:03:04] stuartm: personally I'd like to see long-standing tasks such as the mythui port (mythmusic) and plugins converted to use storage groups completed for 0.25 rather than leaving them hanging for yet another release
[17:04:34] stuartm: since mythvideo has been merged into core, I'd say that mythmusic also has to do the same in this release otherwise it's just going to seem oddly balanced

[17:34:39] sphery: stuartm: if that's the case, I can start on a db update to move mythmusic schema to core
[17:36:12] stuartm: sphery: that would be helpful, we need to coordinate with paul-h though if we're going to make the change as he has a lot of outstanding patches that would probably need to be applied first and those might include schema changes
[17:37:00] sphery: good point
