[17:01:30] elmojo: Beirdo: sorry I was away last night – thanks for the fix
[17:06:42] dblain: iamlindoro: sorry, I read the commit msg and just hit reply... should of thought to come here first.
[17:06:47] Beirdo: no problem, thanks for finding it :)
[17:07:03] pheld: Looks like there's a problem with playback of SD-content since the last ffmpeg merge (http://pastebin.com/Hv79UDNE)
[17:07:11] Beirdo: as I said, I don't use the filters, so in my testing it didn't come up
[17:08:10] dblain: wagnerrp: I was re-writing the http server prior to my api framework commit and was adding chunking support to it which would allow for unknown file transfers.
[17:08:19] Beirdo: pheld: we'll have to see logs, etc... and maybe a sample bad video.
[17:08:37] Beirdo: my SD and HD all work flawlessly.
[17:08:57] aloril (aloril!~aloril@84.249.126.153) has joined #mythtv
[17:09:13] dblain: wagnerrp: even if I don't get back to the complete re-write, I may add true chunk-encoded responses to the existing http server.
[17:11:44] pheld: Beirdo: I'll dig a bit further. Don't have many recordings currently, but all mpeg4/h264 works and anything mpeg2 fails while discovering stream type so far.
[17:12:34] Beirdo: OK, I hope you did a full distclean *and* deleted the installed libs as well?
[17:12:53] pheld: distclean + rm -rf /opt/myth/*
[17:13:20] Beirdo: yeah (or whatever your install prefix is). Old libs/headers can cause issues
[17:13:22] pheld: i.e everything except DB and initscriopts
[17:13:36] Beirdo: make it so make install installs a clean copy
[17:14:17] Beirdo: could still be a problem of course, but at least we'd be at a clean start
[17:24:58] dblain: iamlindoro: Regarding the e-mail... I think Rob was responding to my suggesting on adding a private method for the shared functionality.
[17:26:14] iamlindoro: dblain: I might have misread it. I just wanted to clarify that we basically do the same amount of work for either query, and both already exist in the metadata classes, so might as well offer both
[17:28:08] dblain: np, I think having both means to get the data is a good thing. Just didn't want my simple comment to turn into a large debate :(

[19:22:29] Beirdo: OK. I have a potential fix for that exact crash. if the info is null, don't try to set last_dts inside it
[19:22:39] Beirdo: chance what other mess may get caused
[19:23:36] Beirdo: the mpegts.c was the biggest merge mess, so I'm not terribly surprised that it may need a tweak or two
[19:24:03] iamlindoro: I was hoping you might be able to sort out the wtv demuxing
[19:24:23] iamlindoro: (or maybe we could bring janne in to pinch hit on the little issues since you did the big part of the work)
[19:24:41] Beirdo: the problem is that that uses the mpegts code, and we diverged significantly at that point from what was in the repo
[19:24:59] Beirdo: sure, if he's around, of course :)
[19:25:32] Beirdo: do we actually have wtv sources available already?

[19:26:23] iamlindoro: It's the followup to .dvrms
[19:26:35] Beirdo: ahhh, well, it would be good to get that rectified then
[19:26:44] iamlindoro: It's something it'd be very nice to support to allow people to switch and bring their media
[19:26:49] Beirdo: for sure
[19:27:21] Beirdo: it was the only new thing that was going to take significant work (due to the rework of mpegts.c)

[19:29:23] Beirdo: yeah, for sure.
[19:30:03] Beirdo: it would be nice if we could get to a point where our use of it matched everyone else, but that's a pipe dream for now
[19:30:17] danielk22: heh, if we can one of the two upstreams to accept our mpegts.c that would make the decision as to who to follow easier :)

[21:12:52] ** iamlindoro casually debones a topic trout **
[21:13:02] iamlindoro: !trout topic roger__
[21:13:02] ** MythLogBot slaps topic with a roger__ trout on behalf of iamlindoro... **
[21:13:11] iamlindoro: dang, wrong syntax
[21:13:17] iamlindoro: !trout roger__ topic
[21:13:17] ** MythLogBot slaps roger__ with a topic trout on behalf of iamlindoro... **
[21:13:20] iamlindoro: ah, better
[21:13:24] iamlindoro: See topic, wrong channel
[21:13:29] roger__: ahh sorry

[21:27:16] roger__: nobody over there :(
[21:28:34] iamlindoro: There are plenty of people over there, please be patient
[21:28:47] gigem: has anyone else noticed that linux/videodev.h was effectively removed in linux-2.6.38? the change has already percolated into debian testing/unstable and it's only a matter of time before it hits other distros. do we still really need it?
[21:31:06] jannau: gigem: yes, v4l1 api was removed from the kernel with 2.6.38
[21:32:06] jannau: hopefully videodev2.h is enough
[21:33:03] gigem: ok, i'll test it in a little bit.
[21:34:50] jannau: it's possible that mythtv still uses some v4l1 features but those are probably unused/untested
[21:35:57] iamlindoro: gigem: There is an open ticket on the topic
[21:36:02] iamlindoro: with patch
[21:36:24] iamlindoro: What remains undetermined is if the patch is completely correct-- I think sphery has evaluated it and ISTR there are some issues
[21:38:04] gigem: iamlindoro: ok. i'll look at it. for now, i've just copied my own videodev.h into /usr/include/linux.
[21:39:13] iamlindoro: gigem: http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/9595 if you're interested-- danielk22 has commented on the ticket at the bottom
[21:39:22] sphery: Wasn't me... Not sure who was reviewing that
[21:39:58] iamlindoro: yeah, was daniel, my fault
[21:40:54] sphery: But, yeah, distros are rolling out packages, now, with that patch included, so we really should get it reviewed and something in place (in 0.24-fixes and master) to prevent problems.
[21:41:15] sphery: where "we" means someone who knows V4L stuff much better than I :)
[21:41:25] iamlindoro: dblain: I wonder if there is some way to use Q_PROPERTY or some other macro from the meta-object system to "bake in" plain text descriptions of the parameters and returned data of the API services
[21:43:16] iamlindoro: dblain: specifically, whether it could be used to populate a wsdl:document element for each method
[21:55:10] Chutt__ is now known as Chutt
[22:03:32] dblain: iamlindoro: That is why I resorted to using QClassInfo for things like that. ( well, not the desc, but other attributes of a method)
[22:08:53] dblain: iamlindoro: It's too bad we need to have specific functions for each type of media. It would be nice not to have to worry about which method to call (is it a bluray, dvd, video, recording, song...) Maybe one day we can have a unified metadata system with simple (shared) methods to return information regardless of the media type.
[22:29:24] iamlindoro: dblain, I guess so-- though there are so many attributes to each that don't apply to the others, it's difficult to imagine one to rule them all
[22:30:54] dblain: I could see a class hierarchy or dynamic property system handle the specializations.
[22:32:42] dblain: (well Polymorphic classes more than a hierarchy)
[22:35:32] iamlindoro: Maybe I should just leave the API to smarter minds and work on HTML setup :)
[22:36:36] dblain: Don't take it that way. I was just thinking out loud. (wishful thinking) the work you're doing is great.
[22:37:26] iamlindoro: I wasn't offended, just seems like I don't seem to be getting things quite right no matter how much it seems like it's starting to make sense
[22:37:36] dblain: What I'm thinking of would require large changes throughout all the code. Not something I'm willing to take on, so I don't expect other to either.
[22:40:01] dblain: You're exposing functionality using the API, which I think is great. (more than I'm doing right now!)
