[23:36:41] sphery: mag0o: You may have seen iamlindoro's message on -users list about Arclight/Graphite dev. AIUI, the plan is to move all theme dev to external repos. If you'd like to move Childish outside and would like help getting set up on github/Google Code/Sourceforge (or your own internal/not-publicly-available repo), please feel free to ask. No big hurry, but just mentioning so you can make decisions/start planning.
[23:37:50] iamlindoro: Note that my theme movements have nothing to do with complying with someone else's unsolicited plans
[23:38:06] iamlindoro: unsolicited/unapproved/undiscussed/unacceptable
[23:41:17] iamlindoro: But it's clear all the people doing the driving want is mythcenter, so let them have only mythcenter
[23:43:45] stuartm: wait, what's this?
[23:44:15] stuartm: I don't remember being consulted on moving all themes out of an official repo?
[23:46:36] iamlindoro: Nor I, but that and other exciting topic being decided without consultation
[23:46:42] stuartm: who wants to fork the project? we'd be using svn if that makes a difference ;)
[23:46:43] iamlindoro: like "What shoudl the default theme be"
[23:47:21] iamlindoro: And when I heard again about how shit Arclight is and how much you need metadata otherwise it's "confusing and ugly," and cannot read it on small screens, I'd had enough
[23:47:37] sphery: OK, maybe that's not the plan.
[23:48:21] iamlindoro: Not only have my themes never been good enough to ship with myth, now the desire is to move them further out-- so I just accelerated the process
[23:48:43] sphery: I liked that plan because it meant that changes to a theme could be done by a single gatekeeper--instead of random devs sticking things into the theme to keep up with changes (but breaking consistency/style). And allowed theme authors to more-easily make changes/update things (rather than having to submit tickets/patches).
[23:49:22] iamlindoro: I can revert changes to my theme in the official repository :P
[23:49:42] sphery: true, but mag0o and gbutters can't
[23:49:42] iamlindoro: And if I'm not there to do so, then someone *should* take over it
[23:49:59] iamlindoro: But as I've gone on keeping my theme the most complete and up to date, you'd figure it'd get to live in Myth source
[23:50:27] iamlindoro: And frankly, since all these decisions are being made without a discussion or a vote, this project doesn't *deserve* my themes any more
[23:51:04] iamlindoro: I don't know why I bothered with all the effort in the first place, but it's looking like an awfully dumb decision in retrospect, given the SHIT MythCenters that we go on shipping and seeing in articles about our code
[23:51:38] ** iamlindoro apologizes for his obviously strong language **
[23:51:44] iamlindoro: Frustrated, that's all
[23:52:26] sphery: :(
[23:53:02] stuartm: sphery: it's really just a question of consultation, maybe I don't mind my themes being moved out to a private repo where I have more control over them, but it seems neither iamlindoro nor I have actually been asked if we'd like to do that
[23:53:17] sphery: We do appreciate your themes. I use Arclight and don't plan to change that.
[23:54:04] stuartm: and likewise, anything I say tonight is likely coloured by my frustration over this and other recent events, it shouldn't be taken as gospel but it's not said lightly either
[23:54:06] iamlindoro: stuartm, sphery: And the discussion about *me* writing the replacement default ones when neither qualifies for inclusion in our code seems a slap in the face-- why in God's name would I? If my current work is unacceptable, why would my future work become acceptable?
[23:55:15] iamlindoro: Ugh, and I feel like such an *idiot* because I started work on something new presuming that with Mark's work on OpenGL shaders and effects, we could come up with something truly awesome... What in the world was I *thinking*?
[23:58:19] sphery: stuartm: well, my understanding was that things could stay in MythTV/myththemes as long as a dev with commit privs was willing to actively maintain them, but the option was also available to move them out to external repos, and we were trying to make it easier for non-MythTV devs to author/maintain them, while still making their themes easily visible with the theme downloader
[23:58:37] sphery: so nothing has to change, but it can
[23:59:12] iamlindoro: Note that That was *not* the apparent understanding of the git folk
[23:59:39] iamlindoro: Who felt that myththemes could soon be removed once they got rid of the contents
