[04:05:13] iamlindoro: Captain_Murdoch, Waht was wrong with the existing wording?
[04:05:30] iamlindoro: (especially given the atrocious descriptions found in other themes)
[04:05:34] Captain_Murdoch: attractive and then attractively. :)
[04:05:41] Captain_Murdoch: about 5 words apart.
[04:05:56] Captain_Murdoch: and "widescreen HD screens"
[04:06:13] ** iamlindoro grumbles **
[04:06:18] Captain_Murdoch: just cleaning them all up some. I thought you were out of town or I wouldn't have tried to slip it by. ;)
[04:06:34] Captain_Murdoch: feel free to put in your own description. I really did thin you were out.
[04:06:55] Captain_Murdoch: string freeze is Wednesday and these will get translated this time around.
[04:07:27] wagnerrp: well that depends, he did travel about 100 miles... if that counts as 'out of town'
[04:07:32] Captain_Murdoch: believe me, others are getting changed as well. I'll post a list for comment from others.
[04:07:55] Captain_Murdoch: blue-abstract-wide's "I'm the best theme in the whole wide world and the other themes all kill babies"
[04:07:56] iamlindoro: Captain_Murdoch, Pretty much every other theme is unmaintained... anyway, I'll pick my battles
[04:09:30] Captain_Murdoch: don't take offense that yours was changed first by itself. your's was one of the only ones that I thought could use just a minor tweak since this will get translated into multiple languages.
[04:10:03] Captain_Murdoch: the others are more major where I want to run them by you, stuartm, and anyone else who has a comment about my updated descriptions. :|
[04:10:18] iamlindoro: It's fine, your explanation makes sense-- just like to think that I still have some ownership of it and that most people would chat with me-- the changes make sense upon explanation
[04:10:42] Captain_Murdoch: sorry for not asking first. I seriously thought you were out for a few days and ddint' want to miss the deadline.
[04:10:51] iamlindoro: It's fine, I'm good ;)
[04:11:02] Captain_Murdoch: I wouldn't touch anything else in there. :)
[04:11:13] Captain_Murdoch: It's my theme of choice. :)
[04:11:23] Captain_Murdoch: hand-editted all my fanart for it, etc.. :)
[04:28:49] Captain_Murdoch: iamlindoro, stuartm, sphery, anybody, comments on these description updates? http://mythtv.pastebin.ca/1940253 anybody, If one of those is yours, feel free to suggest an alternate description keeping in mind that these will get translated and will be viewable on the new Theme Chooser/downloader screen.
[04:31:06] iamlindoro: Captain_Murdoch, I have often skirted the "Star Trek" issue by saying it was "inspired by popular Science Fiction franchises" or some such nonsense
[04:31:35] iamlindoro: Not sure if the concept of what is "MythUI" is relevant to the average grandma (re: Retro)
[04:31:37] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, wasn't sure about that. the first part of that came from wagnerrp the other day and the last part from stuartm I think.
[04:32:13] iamlindoro: Otherwise, all looks good to me
[04:32:31] Captain_Murdoch: I use mythui in several places, do most look ok except the retro one?
[04:32:57] iamlindoro: Hmm, the other spot at least explains what it is, which I think is better... but we could probably do without it entirely
[04:33:03] Captain_Murdoch: just trying to get the point across that "this ain't your grandma's theme" :)
[04:33:16] iamlindoro: Except it is ;)
[04:33:25] iamlindoro: it's literally the exact same theme with new XML
[04:33:34] iamlindoro: because change is for crazy people
[04:33:48] wagnerrp: Captain_Murdoch: you actually used that comment? i was making a joke about circular definitions
[04:33:57] Captain_Murdoch: yep. with their new fandangled processors
[04:34:08] Captain_Murdoch: wagnerrp, /me couldn't be bothered to think up anything better. ;)
[04:34:57] Captain_Murdoch: and i just wanted something other than the 1-word LCARS. at least that tells them where LCARS came from. could be Knight Rider for all some know. :)
[04:35:34] ** Captain_Murdoch waits for the new K.I.T.T. theme to be uploaded (and subsequently renamed to K.I.T.T since some people don't like the trailing .) **
[04:36:58] iamlindoro: Those are the people who think filenames can't have spaces and MythCenter is a kick ass theme
[04:38:32] wagnerrp: they just look so much better with interspersed periods and underscores
[04:38:49] Captain_Murdoch: ok, how about this: #
[04:38:50] Captain_Murdoch: Retro is a generally blue 'Retro' styled theme. This is a port of the original
[04:38:50] Captain_Murdoch: #
[04:38:50] Captain_Murdoch: theme to the new MythUI engine while maintaining nearly the same exact look and feel.
[04:39:04] Captain_Murdoch: dohh, paste issue on that, sorry.
[04:39:09] iamlindoro: works for me
[04:39:19] Captain_Murdoch: not slamming it too hard is it? :)
[04:39:27] Captain_Murdoch: subtle slam
[04:39:45] iamlindoro: I'm sure someone will claim that it's all new because the blues don't quite match or something
[04:39:55] iamlindoro: but those are the same people who theme the PBB and release it as a theme
[04:39:58] Captain_Murdoch: that's NTSC for ya
[04:40:31] Captain_Murdoch: hey look, I changed #ff0000 to #fe0000, here's my new theme.
[04:40:54] iamlindoro: TransLightBlue
[04:41:04] Captain_Murdoch: took me hours. and then I found out how to search and replace on the command line with 1 line of perl
[04:41:08] iamlindoro: (remember that guy tried to enter three times with three different colors)
[04:41:30] iamlindoro: You may remember me from such full themes as TransOrange and TransGreen
[04:41:37] wagnerrp: heh
[04:41:41] Captain_Murdoch: iamlindoro, yeah, I was trying to think up something nice about that one.
[04:42:23] Captain_Murdoch: sometimes it takes a bad theme to motivate people to say "hey, I can do better than that."
[04:44:21] Captain_Murdoch: so, should I change Star Trek => "a well known Sci-Fi franchise"
[04:45:06] iamlindoro: Up to you, I just always have to avoid any potential copyright issue
[04:45:43] iamlindoro: I think I'll name my next theme Aaaaaaaaaarclight to keep it at the top of the theme chooser ;)
[04:47:40] Captain_Murdoch: it's only at the top if people have their current theme set to one that fits on the first page of buttons. ;) Those TransBlue users will never even see Arclight unless they scroll wayyyyyy up to the top...
[04:48:08] iamlindoro: TransBlue users... hilarious
[04:48:14] Captain_Murdoch: sorry, s/users/user/
[04:48:23] Captain_Murdoch: :)
[04:48:56] Captain_Murdoch: that's why we have themes, because we don't all want to stare at the same screen.
[04:50:34] Captain_Murdoch: ok, stuartm, sphery, if you guys want to comment later, here's the latest: http://mythtv.pastebin.ca/1940263 << for old, >> for new
[04:52:07] ** Captain_Murdoch svn-update's so he can see the Arclight theming for the theme chooser. **
[04:54:24] iamlindoro: Don't think it's anything special or surprising, but it'll work
[04:54:25] Captain_Murdoch: no full-screen preview? :)
[04:54:58] iamlindoro: Is there something I shoudl be aware of?
[04:55:04] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, looks better than the non-scaled 1280x720 default-wide overlayed on top of Arclight.
[04:55:16] Captain_Murdoch: with the full screen preview?
[04:55:34] iamlindoro: Wasn't aware there was such a thing
[04:55:55] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, look at fullpreviewstate
[04:56:12] iamlindoro: How is one meant to toggle that on and off?
[04:56:16] Captain_Murdoch: once you define that, it will add a new menu option for 'full screen preview'
[04:56:25] iamlindoro: interesting
[04:56:30] Captain_Murdoch: show/hide I think before that text.
[04:56:39] Captain_Murdoch: also, ESC exits the full screen preview.
[04:56:43] Captain_Murdoch: up/down work inside it.
[04:57:04] Captain_Murdoch: basically it's just displaying a full-screen image overtop the normal screen so your key actions are on the buttonlist still
[04:58:29] Captain_Murdoch: the default and default-wide ones have a little shape and text area to show the name of the current theme. I think you have to define at least the name and the image for it to work. I should key off the state if that's possible.
[04:59:16] Captain_Murdoch: ie, you must have fullscreenpreview image and fullscreenname textarea for it to show up on the menu.
[05:00:32] sphery: Captain_Murdoch: looks good to me--seems you're way better at this "marketing" stuff than I am, so I don't have any suggestions for improvements
[05:00:43] Captain_Murdoch: so it lets users view the full-size preview image full-screen to see what the theme would look like on their own display.
[05:01:13] Captain_Murdoch: sphery, thanks.
[05:01:38] iamlindoro: ewww, yeah, need to use the name too
[05:01:40] iamlindoro: bummer
[05:02:09] Captain_Murdoch: iamlindoro, that can be fixed if you don't think it's necessary. I figured it made it easier to see what was going on.
[05:02:20] Captain_Murdoch: I'm fine with ripping that part of the check out of the code.
[05:02:24] iamlindoro: Captain_Murdoch, Just restricts themer creativity
[05:02:42] iamlindoro: ie, what if my "fullscreen" is just a halfscreen with buttons visible on the other half, etc.
[05:02:57] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, I want to key off the state type, but that was a last-minute addition.
[05:03:09] Captain_Murdoch: let me take a quick look at the code again.
[05:03:21] Captain_Murdoch: migth be an easy fix now that I know more about those.
[05:04:49] iamlindoro: Captain_Murdoch, Yikes, definitely some draw order issues too if you don't define things in the right order
[05:05:06] Captain_Murdoch: with the statetype, yeah.
[05:05:13] iamlindoro: That is to say, the statetype *must* be last
[05:05:18] Captain_Murdoch: ah, yeah.
[05:05:24] Captain_Murdoch: since it goes over everything else.
[05:05:50] iamlindoro: That said, I'm not sure how you could do otherwise-- MythUI *does* have a way to force it to the top, but that would necessarily restrict some themers
[05:07:10] iamlindoro: So I guess it's best left as it is draworderwise
[05:13:41] Captain_Murdoch: testing a fix now to make the name optional
[05:15:40] iamlindoro: Captain_Murdoch, I used ancient themer trick to avoid it, but might be nice not to need it entirely ;)
[05:15:55] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, saw your 0,0,0,0 :)
[05:25:15] Captain_Murdoch: iamlindoro, the fix is in.
[05:25:59] iamlindoro: Captain_Murdoch, cool, thanks
[05:26:03] Captain_Murdoch: yw

[08:29:36] stuartm: btw, G.A.N.T. was renamed to G.A.N.T because you can't have a tailing . in windows filenames, this was back before ThemeInfo when a themes name was also it's filename
[08:30:20] stuartm: these days a theme with a filename of kitt can still have a display name of K.I.T.T.
[08:36:26] stuartm: the fullscreen preview could be implemented as another screen, that avoids the draworder issue and the keyboard input problems with the hidden buttonlist

[14:38:53] Captain_Murdoch: stuartm, I like having the full screen preview as just a large image on that screen. it means you can use up/down arrows to scroll through the full-screen previews. you can hit ENTER to select the theme, etc., all without coding anything additional. if it was just a static image that you had to escape out of to continue browsing or choosing a theme then that might make sense to have it as a separate screen.
[14:39:31] Captain_Murdoch: ie, I see the keyboard input as a feature, not a problem.
[14:40:27] stuartm: Captain_Murdoch: ok
[14:43:19] stuartm: that all makes sense, I didn't realise it was part of the design
[14:47:42] stuartm: btw, it could be both, I mention that only because that's how we handle some stuff in mythvideo and how I was going to deal with mythgallery, the fullscreen version subclasses the first screen, no additional code but you get the benefits of both
[14:49:28] stuartm: not pushing for that
