[11:38:51] mcastles: can someone please tell me if this is intended behaviour... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1561993
[11:40:47] justinh: you'd need to use a 16:10 theme
[11:44:00] mcastles: does myth support that?
[11:44:12] mcastles: I thought it was only 4:3 and 16:9
[11:45:59] mcastles: scratch that... looks like its mentioned in the themeinfo.xml
[11:47:55] justinh: yup
[11:48:20] justinh: and FWIW you seem to be talking about the OSD only, not the GUI as such
[11:49:33] mcastles: yeah, i mean both.. but the osd bugs me more
[11:51:16] justinh: I've seen a couple of 16:10 themes but didn't think much of either
[11:52:25] justinh: pays to have a display the same aspect as the content you're showing, ideally :)
[11:52:25] mcastles: i was just about to ask.. ok.. well I might have to make my own
[11:52:54] justinh: I hate black bars – plus they're not so good for some types of display
[11:55:31] mcastles: yeah, i hate them.. but i hate loosing footage or distortion more
[12:01:38] justinh: you could always edit the osd theme to make the top & bottom line up with the 16:9 screen area
[12:01:47] justinh: that would probably be fairly quick & easy to do
[12:03:41] mcastles: yep, thats what I'm playing with at the moment
[12:12:42] mcastles: I've been recommended to build themes agains the .24 trunk.... http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/448553
[12:13:35] mcastles: how do you get the latest theme from trunk?
[12:13:44] justinh: you wouldn't just need the theme
[12:13:50] justinh: the OSD code is all new too
[12:14:04] justinh: meaning that you can't use 0.23 OSD themes with trunk
[12:14:04] mcastles: oh, ok
[12:14:08] justinh: or vice-versa
[12:17:37] mcastles: whats the release schedule for .24?
[12:20:10] mcastles: ahh 5 weeks
[12:22:28] Captain_Murdoch: mcastles, themes can be any size, they get scaled to the display resolution. so you can run a 4:3 theme stretched to 16:9 or a 16:9 theme squished to 4:3, etc.
[12:30:40] Captain_Murdoch: when the theme is loaded, horizontal & vertical scaling factors are calculated based on the physical screen size in pixels and the pixel aspect ratio and the theme resolution. so for instance, I run a 16:9 theme on a 16:9 plasma display that is only 1024x768 pixels in size, and it all works out correctly. if you change the baseres in the themeinfo.xml file, then the theme will display larger/smaller on-screen. ie, take a
[12:30:40] Captain_Murdoch: 800x600 theme and change its baseres to 1920x1080 and run it on a 16:9 screen and it will display small in the upper left corner since the scaling calculations are way off.
[12:33:38] mcastles: yep fair nuff
