[14:50:23] stuartm: wow, we might be up pretty high
[14:51:37] iamlindoro: So if we do aim for the 1.0 thing, I think a completely from-scratch default and default-wide are probably on the agenda
[14:51:53] iamlindoro: + completing Terra
[15:08:19] mrand: iamlindoro: I know of your general distaste for it, but could Mythcenter be molded into something acceptable? Or would that be an uphill battle (both designwise, and possibly w.r.t. others that "have an interest" in it) such that it would be better to do something new?
[15:08:37] iamlindoro: I think MythCenter is garbage
[15:08:58] iamlindoro: The idea would be to have a *good* default theme ;)
[15:09:25] mrand: heh
[15:09:33] iamlindoro: For my money, we don't declare that we're shedding the ghosts of the past by using a theme from 8 versions ago as the default
[15:10:22] iamlindoro: ie, not just a bunch of floating widgets on a blue background. MythCenter is basically almost completely default and default-wide right now anyway
[15:25:11] abqjp (abqjp!~abqjp@97-119-172-105.albq.qwest.net) has joined #mythtv-theming
[15:33:27] stuartm: we need a new default, designed from the ground up and no, mythcenter simply can't be it
[15:34:28] stuartm: as you noted we'd face string resistance from people who like how it is now, so we'd be unable to break away from many of the major and minor design points
[16:18:27] Captain_Murdoch: it was bad enough that that LinuxJournal article used MythCenter, probably because it was the only 4:3 theme other than Childish in the base.
[16:22:47] stuartm: much as I like some of the newer themes, I don't feel I've seen the perfect theme yet
[16:23:38] stuartm: and there is still some untapped potential in mythui, not in terms of features which haven't been used but in the way those features are applied
[16:28:44] Captain_Murdoch: a big thing holding up the theme downloader is the theming of the downloader itself. downloading and switching to the new theme works, statuses work showing which themes are installed, which have updates available, etc. if we delay 0.24, I think we could probably get that in as well. if I have to design the default and default-wide downloader pages they'll look nearly identical to what iamlindoro gave me from when he was
[16:28:44] Captain_Murdoch: playing around with it in Arclight. :|
[16:29:41] Captain_Murdoch: ie, see my system event editor page for examples of my elite theming skills
[16:33:28] iamlindoro: I can help with necessary theming for default/etc. as necessary
[17:28:24] natanojl (natanojl!~jonatan@c83-252-237-63.bredband.comhem.se) has joined #mythtv-theming
[19:02:27] sphery: So, what's the proper solution for 4:3 themes? It probably involves more than just doing a new default theme that gets stuck on top of MythCenter's blue background, right? We probably need to get find someone using 4:3 to do some new themes? Or maybe get some artistically-inclined 16:9 user to "take one for the team" and do a new 4:3 theme or 2?
[19:03:04] iamlindoro: Yes, one of those things
[19:03:07] iamlindoro: (hehe)
[19:03:40] sphery: OK. I'll try to apply some recruiting techniques when the topic comes up in -users (list or channel).  :)
[19:04:11] iamlindoro: I suspect nobody will own a 4:3 TV any more by the time we actually recruit someone with talent enough to create a great one
[19:04:20] iamlindoro: Let them eat^H^H use Childish!
[19:04:23] sphery: heh, true
[19:05:26] sphery: or tell them to use the Cake theme... (and don't tell them that the Cake is a lie)
[19:22:13] mag0o: you looking for something snazzy for 4:3? I still have the 4:3 tv that inspired childish :)
[19:24:12] mag0o: (and the children)
[19:28:56] stuartm: snazzy, sexy, sleek
[19:39:15] stuartm is now known as gbee
[20:16:51] mag0o: any sort of time constraint?
[20:21:07] mrand: mag0o: the longer it takes, the longer people might encounter mythcenter and decide mythtv isn't worth it ;-)
[20:21:36] mag0o: haha
[20:21:54] mrand: mag0o: but the general idea I think is that in 12 months, they (some of the devs) are hoping that myth is much more polished for the masses.
[20:22:17] mrand: Hopefully I'm not putting words or dates in anyones mouth.
[20:28:17] mag0o: so, i have 14 months? :)
[20:31:44] mag0o: well, actually mythlite scales nicely to 4:3 since there are no images, but it's not sleek, sexy or snzzy
[20:31:48] mag0o: (or finished)
