[00:28:34] k-man: mrand: are you saying i could make chagnes to .23 to fix it and then submit patches to upstream?
[00:29:02] mrand: k-man: yes, but you should do what iamlindoro suggests first (right below my previous note)
[00:29:32] k-man: iamlindoro: how do i clear the theme cache?
[00:29:41] iamlindoro: rm ~/.mythtv/themecache/*
[00:29:56] k-man: iamlindoro: and how do i go about applying change sets one by one to work out which ones are useful?
[00:30:08] k-man: thanks
[00:30:16] iamlindoro: You read the changelog for the theme in question and apply the changes based on the diffs
[00:30:36] iamlindoro: but again, we wouldn't want patches, just a note requesting that the relevant changesets be backported on the dev list
[00:30:45] k-man: yeah, i see
[00:35:10] k-man: but in my case, i should check out the .23 fixes branch, and then start applying relevant change sets from trunk? how does one go about doing that?
[00:36:27] iamlindoro: There is little if anything in trunk MythCetner that ins't in .23 MythCenter
[00:36:41] iamlindoro: in fact, I'd say there may be *no* functional changes in trunk's mythcenter
[00:37:09] k-man: really? i did a diff on track and found there were quite a few differences, but then again, i could have been using trac incorrectly
[00:37:17] k-man: s/track/trac
[00:38:04] iamlindoro: the only changes are DTD compliance changes, not functional ones
[00:38:16] k-man: iamlindoro: hmm... that's interesting
[00:38:42] k-man: i definately see big differences in how it displays but as you say, it could be a cache issue as I didn't realise i needed to flush the cache
[00:39:09] iamlindoro: There are definitely not big differences between trunk and .23 MythCenter
[00:39:28] iamlindoro: If there are *any* visible differences, they will be extremely subtle
[00:40:24] iamlindoro: .23 only came out last Monday, most if not all of the changes to the theme during feature freeze were backported to .23, and very very little has happened since
[00:40:40] k-man: well, the differences for me are that the fonts are much smaller in trunk (bear in mind that i just used the trunk theme in .23 fixes) and some of dialogues like the "are you sure you want to quit" button fills the whole screen
[00:40:57] k-man: but i will double check later
[00:41:01] k-man: not at home now so can;t
[00:46:00] k-man: i'd really like to see a screen shot of the schedule recording screen in mythcenter 4:3 to compare how mine looks, i suspect part of the problem could be a font issue
[00:46:10] k-man: it would be good to know i'm not trying to fix the wrong thing
[01:06:48] mrand: k-man: you saying your 4:3 screen compared to someone elses?
[01:07:54] iamlindoro: Perhaps it woudl be more useful for you to take a screenshot and show us what you think is broken
[01:08:51] iamlindoro: If something has changed, it would likely be a lot easier for me to tell you where the XML in question is, and I could backport any relevant fix, too
[01:29:57] k-man: mrand: yeah
[01:30:22] k-man: iamlindoro: ah, good idea, ill take screen shots of .23fixes and trunk tonight

[13:35:33] k-man: iamlindoro: how would you like me to send those screenshots to you?
[13:43:14] mrand: k-man: how about some place like imagebin?
[13:47:08] k-man: hmm... ok
[14:24:56] k-man: ok. this is what mythcenter .23fixes looks like in mythtv .23: http://imgbin.org/index.php?page=image&id=1640
[14:26:44] k-man: this is what mythcenter trunk looks like in mythtv .23: http://imgbin.org/index.php?page=image&id=1641
[14:27:11] k-man: notice how the font size is smaller in trunk and that means you can read the whole field in the schedule recordings screen
[14:27:39] k-man: both of these were as at changeset 24733
[14:28:03] k-man: note, i am running this under the marillat .debs of .23-fixes
[14:28:18] k-man: ok, thats it – time for bed, nite all

[16:40:41] iamlindoro: k-man: the difference appears to be a difference in the fonts installed on your end-- is that on two different boxes? I've just done a diff between .23 and trunk and unless I've missed something there are no functional font changes whatsoever
[16:41:10] iamlindoro: specifically, it appears the "trunk" box doesn't have some of the fonts installed
[16:41:40] iamlindoro: The .23 screenshot is as it should appear (or at least, is as it is written) and how trunk appears on my system
[16:50:31] mrand: Of course, the not-so-funny part is that the one that is "wrong" looks better to me.
[16:51:07] iamlindoro: Spoken like someone who has never had to put up with the ire of users
[16:51:14] iamlindoro: MUH!!!! NOW I NO CAN READ IT!
[16:51:21] iamlindoro: WHY DON'T THE FONT SETTINGS WORK???
[16:51:32] iamlindoro: TWO STEPS FORWARD ONE STEP BACK STUPID MYTHUI
[16:51:36] mrand: hehehehe
[16:52:37] mrand: Unfortunately I'm kinda stuck with MythCenter because I don't have time to do my own 4:3.  :-(
[16:53:11] iamlindoro: Several of the 16:9 themes work nicely in 4:3, or so I hear
[16:53:37] gbee: iamlindoro: which is wrong/right?
[16:53:51] gbee: no, wait, I probably don't want to know or care
[16:54:12] iamlindoro: gbee: The former/.23 is "as written," the trunk is "as broken," I'll leave which is "right" as an exercise to the user
[16:54:36] iamlindoro: Since I'd rather nuke the hell out of the whole theme, I'm not the right one to ask
[16:54:45] gbee: mythcenter still needs serious work, it's still little more than a copy/fallback to default
[16:55:12] mrand: I thought I checked the wide themese after deploying 0.23, but maybe I should check again. Most of them cut off enough info I had to switch.
[16:56:32] iamlindoro: mrand: how come the ubuntu forums are so full of stupid self-entitlement?
[16:56:56] gbee: with Terra + English there shouldn't be any truncated strings, the same should be true for metallurgy but only for the screens which were ported to mythui (it's not complete)
[16:57:37] iamlindoro: gbee: Think he means when used on a 4:3 screen
[16:58:37] gbee: oh, yeah, sorry I'm not really paying a lot of attention, I've got guests over and I'm just taking brief refuge ;)
[16:58:46] mrand: lol
[16:59:05] mrand: iamlindoro: hard to say regarding the forums. Just like mythtv-users, aren't they?
[16:59:19] iamlindoro: mrand: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1485477
[16:59:28] iamlindoro: Thankfully it usually doesn't get *that* offensive on the mailing list
[16:59:30] mrand: Most of that stuff can be ignored... the important users will either ignore, or beat them back. Not worth a developers response in general.
[16:59:30] iamlindoro: but sometimes
[17:00:39] mrand: indeed.
