[15:47:37] iamlindoro: maybe need a reminder in #mythtv
[16:02:01] stuarta: maybe 9am was too early for everyone :)

[18:49:59] Beirdo: buggers? :) heh
[18:51:14] Beirdo: I'm thinking #8903 will be 0.24 if I can
[18:52:31] stuarta: sounds good. i think there's a common class behind both commflagger and mythbackend
[18:52:35] Beirdo: #8890 should be simple to fix (avoid a segfault)
[18:53:03] Beirdo: if I had remembered it was there last night I woulda done it
[18:53:35] iamlindoro: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/5072 should just be closed, period
[18:53:38] iamlindoro: because it's ridiculous
[18:53:55] Beirdo: the frontend made a MySQL server has gone away spew last night once too. It's definitely library code that needs tweaking
[18:54:55] Beirdo: heh, yeah. #5072 is... interesting... in a bad way
[18:55:59] stuartm: stuarta: what's the deal with http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/7923 ? A quick glance doesn't give cause for concern, there are no locking problems that I can see which might explain the report of a backend hang but I think we'll be waiting forever for a confirmation that it wasn't the cause
[18:56:04] Beirdo: seems lots of people are finding the "you didn't check NULL" crashes these days
[18:57:57] skd5aner (skd5aner!~skd5aner@cpe-069-132-082-180.carolina.res.rr.com) has joined #mythtv-bsp
[18:58:21] stuartm: btw, I suspect my comment to http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/5072 was meant to finished "limited use case"
[18:58:34] Beirdo: OK, I have 4 0.24 on my queue right now. only the mysql one is likely to take any significant amount of effort
[19:00:09] iamlindoro: small feature patches like http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/5021 are just starting to get silly
[19:00:18] iamlindoro: should just get closed if we're not going to do anything about it
[19:00:50] Beirdo: yeah, agreed
[19:01:05] Beirdo: should ping kormoc/xris on that one
[19:03:17] Beirdo: we do have a ticket for the previews causing havoc in the frontend, right? including the pausing I saw last night when 2 recordings started while I was playing back, and it glitched my playback?
[19:03:26] stuartm: 5021 – the programid is a pretty opaque value to 99% of users, I can't see the value in displaying it, but the rest sounds fine and are harmless
[19:03:34] Beirdo: I think it's all the stuff stuartm is lookin at, IIRC
[19:03:48] stuartm: Beirdo: danielk22 is looking at it, I reported it
[19:03:57] Beirdo: ah, got it backwards :)
[19:04:03] iamlindoro: stuartm: That's my thinking too, so it makes one wonder why it's been kicked down the road for two years
[19:04:16] Beirdo: OK. Well, I can likely dig out logs if they become helpful
[19:04:42] iamlindoro: (and thus, probably burning yet another contributor)
[19:05:08] stuartm: iamlindoro: it's probably precisely because it's not an interesting patch or intriguing problem that no-one has wanted to spend the 5 minutes needed on it
[19:05:25] iamlindoro: yeah
[19:05:41] Beirdo: there may have been other technical issues in there, but I'd tend to concur there
[19:06:06] stuartm: those tiny one-liner type patches that get ignored, I know I've had one or two in my queue
[19:07:04] Beirdo: yeah, they often get neglected

[19:20:13] stuartm: sounds good
[19:23:34] stuarta: grr, i need a new ide. qdevelop sucks badly
[19:28:21] Beirdo: vim FTW
[19:28:34] Beirdo: alternatively... eclipse :)
[19:30:49] stuartm: eclipse means java and eww
[19:31:10] Beirdo: agreed
[19:31:10] iamlindoro: Not to mention apparently Eclipse has a tendency to corrupt the myth pro files
[19:31:30] Beirdo: it's nice other than being java... and requiring way too many resources
[19:31:41] stuartm: I genuinely admire those who can use nothing but vim, I find it's fine for small edits but I'd never use it for more than that
[19:31:51] Beirdo: I haven't put .pro files into it, so I'll concede the point there :)
[19:31:53] iamlindoro: nano ftw ;)
[19:31:59] Beirdo: heh
[19:32:04] iamlindoro: for serious
[19:32:08] Beirdo: I'm very much enamored with vim
[19:32:29] Beirdo: it is not quite the religion that emacs using is.
[19:33:15] stuartm: choice of editor/ide is pretty personal, I'm comfortable with kate/kdevelop even though I don't use 95% of the bits in kdevelop which make it an I(ntegrated)DE
[19:33:57] Beirdo: yeah, it's a personal thing for sure
[19:34:24] Beirdo: I'd go insane if I had to use nano :) but if iamlindoro is comfortable with it, more power to him :)
[19:35:15] wagnerrp: ive used (g)vim for everything ive written for mythtv
[19:35:26] stuartm: I'll happily switch between vi/vim/emacs for small stuff, but if I'm working with multiple files at the same time then I need tabs, project-wide search etc to keep everything straight in my mind
[19:35:27] wagnerrp: although for the most part, everything i do is an independent work
[19:35:49] wagnerrp: would probably be a lot more difficult if i were trying to pull in other people's libraries, stuff i hadnt personally written
[19:37:31] Beirdo: stuartm: understood :) I use screen and git grep for that functionality, but I hear ya
[19:37:39] stuartm: the search stuff in kdevelop is probably why I stick with it, sure I can do the searching with grep etc on the command line, but the ability to browse search results, click on one and have it open the file _and_ move the cursor to the line in question probably saves me hours of work over the course of a year
[19:38:12] sphery: stuartm: I'm not really here for a few hours, but figured I'd respond in here so we can get credit for the fix as part of the BSP, but I'll fix the FL_EDITING thing tonight.
[19:38:56] stuartm: sphery: thanks, I don't know when it broke and who broke it, but since you are working in that area right now I went to you
[19:40:15] stuartm: I only noticed it because of http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/8874 we were mapping an icon to that flag and it was showing up when it shouldn't have been :)
[19:43:13] sphery: I think I might have broken it (but I didn't even know the feature existed). Before, there was only one way to exit the editor, now there are others. The code that calls ProgramInfo::SaveEditing() was written specifically for the "only one way out" approach, so I'll generalize it to handle the current design.

I think that's another manifestation of issues with how we maintain the group lists in playbackbox. I don't know why it's making 2 of them (different capitalization, maybe?), but it seems to be confusing our hash.
[19:48:10] stuartm: no, I didn't see that
[19:49:37] ** stuarta tests monkey studio **
[19:50:13] stuartm: if Captain_Murdoch doesn't mind, I'll leave it with him, I've looked at the PBB so many times that I'm blind to it's faults (plus I'm developing a hated of it)
[19:51:15] stuartm: it's one of those areas of code that everyone seems to touch, so even if you leave it in a working state one month, it's unrecognisable the next
[19:52:42] Captain_Murdoch: sphery, saw it but didn't see the latest reply. get him to get the output of "select * from recording" for that specific recording as well as "select * from settings where value = 'DisplayGroupDefaultViewMask';" so we can see what view he's using. the last bug I fixed (using a user submitted patch) with that earlier this week was only visible in a certain view.
[19:53:20] Captain_Murdoch: stuartm, yeah, I haven't touched it much since the libmythui rewrite, but it's slowly coming back to me as I look around.

[20:24:07] stuarta: i sent a reminder to -dev earlier today
[20:24:47] sphery: oops, yeah, I see it now.

[20:25:56] stuarta: :)
[20:26:28] ** stuarta tries to work out how debugging verbose's are causing a memory leak **
[20:29:07] sphery: Captain_Murdoch: Program titles are "REGENESIS" and "REGENESIS " (only difference being the space). Maybe we sometimes do a .trimmed() and missed it in another place somewhere?
[20:29:47] Beirdo: wha?
[20:29:57] Beirdo: verboses causing memory leaks?
[20:29:59] Beirdo: ouch
[20:30:10] stuarta: #6734
[20:31:36] sphery: Captain_Murdoch: Actually, it seems we do .simplified() (basically the same effect for a title) on groupname, but don't on titles.

[20:32:24] Beirdo: loss record 523?
[20:32:48] Captain_Murdoch: kormoc, yeah, but that won't reorder at will. you have to keep detaching/attaching in a little rain dance to get the tabs in the order you want them.

[20:36:55] Beirdo: hmmm.
[20:37:00] Beirdo: that does seem odd
[20:37:07] stuarta: aye
[20:37:10] danielk22: valgrind is far from prefect... If you look at the code and it doesn't look like there is a leak there probably isn't one... it narrows down the number of places to look...
[20:37:41] danielk22: (btw I'm still @work myself.. just listening in :)
[20:37:59] Beirdo: it could be something internal to Qt's fromUnicode somehow
[20:38:29] Beirdo: but from our code's side, I also fail to see how that should be leaking
[20:38:57] Beirdo: unless it's the channel->GetDevice()
[20:39:26] Beirdo: hmm, but then that should theoretically be in the call stack
[20:40:05] stuarta: that was the only thing i could see too
[20:41:58] stuarta: well, RecordingProfile doesn't seem to have a destructor and it does a new in it's constructor
[20:42:25] Beirdo: hmmm, that could be it
[20:42:34] stuarta: it's only a small leak, but it's the only definitely lost in that valgrind output
