[15:29:15] jarnos: How can you prevent the same episode of a series from being recorded again? Is it improved in 29?
[15:37:52] peterbennett: jarnos: The system checks using the episode id from the listings source.
[15:38:37] peterbennett: jarnos: You don't have to do anything special, it will not normally record the same episode again.
[15:39:05] peterbennett: jarnos: This is not changed in 29 or 30
[15:40:12] jarnos: peterbennett, well, I am using 0.28 and IIRC it does not work well in it.
[15:51:51] jarnos: peterbennett, How is episode id created?
[15:55:59] jarnos: And is it stored somewhere so that user can check it?

[16:15:59] peterbennett: jarnos: It is downloaded with listings. What listing service do you use?
[16:16:18] jarnos: peterbennett, EIT
[16:16:22] peterbennett: jarnos: It is stored in the database.
[16:17:30] peterbennett: I think EIT may not have good episode ids or maybe have none. If there is no episode id it checkes other things for duplicates
[16:19:30] peterbennett: If you have mythweb, you can see the episode id there in the recorded programs.
[16:21:13] peterbennett: Or in frontend press I for Info. Look for Program ID
[16:33:23] jarnos: peterbennett, in MythWeb Program ID for every program is empty. Same thing for Subtitle. Description is different, though.
[16:34:16] peterbennett: If there is no program id it checks based on title and subtitle. If subtitle is empty then it will not be able to tell duplicates.
[16:35:58] peterbennett: You can sign up for schedules direct. That gives subtitles and program ids for everything and is very good with avoiding duplicates.
[16:36:53] jarnos: peterbennett, there is option for duplicate matching from description, too, but maybe it is buggy in 0.28 at least. https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Duplicate_matching
[16:39:09] peterbennett: I have not used description for dup checking. maybe the description does not exactly match what was there before.
[16:39:57] peterbennett: You can see the previous description in previously recorded. See if it matches the new one.
[16:50:40] jarnos: peterbennett, I see that the description matches exactly on the recorded episodes.
[16:56:24] peterbennett: Did you select the correct option in the recording rule? If so I don't know what the problem is.

[20:41:36] jarnos: Maybe my database schema has not been updated properly or something...
[20:47:35] peterbennett: jarnos: It is not my area of expertise. With schedules direct it works very well 99% of the time, with program ids. I never could understand what the difference is between check title and subtitle vs check title then subtitle.
[20:48:28] peterbennett: jarnos: If there is a bug you could try asking on the mailing list, submitting a ticket or submitting a ticket with a patch.
[20:56:04] jarnos: peterbennett, in Finnish TV there does not seem to be Program IDs and subtitles so duplicate matching must be done by title and description.
[21:04:15] peterbennett: jarnos: Schedules direct has support for Finland, according to their web page.
[21:05:24] peterbennett: jarnos: You can also get a trial period from schedules direct to try out without paying first.
[21:05:38] peterbennett: http://www.schedulesdirect.org/regions
[21:05:47] jarnos: peterbennett, the 'then' method was added because sometimes in UK EIT program information were sometimes mixed between subtitle and description. https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/2655#no1
[21:06:55] peterbennett: jarnos: You have just proved that you know more about it than I do :)
[21:07:38] peterbennett: I do not vouch for the accuracy of schedules direct but in the USA it is very accurate
[21:07:56] jarnos: peterbennett, is this "Schedules direct" somehow related to EIT?
[21:08:54] peterbennett: jarnos: No – it downloads the schedule from the Internet.
[21:11:46] jarnos: peterbennett, oh, but I think also the EIT way should work. There seems to be a way to set default before installation, but I do not know, if you can change it afterwards: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Locale_Configurations
[21:26:50] natanojl: jarnos: I don't know if you speak C/C++ but kDupCheckSubDesc = kDupCheckDesc | kDupCheckSub, and both kDupCheckDesc and kDupCheckSub are handled in that method
[21:27:09] jarnos: Anyway, completely unsupported value (kDupCheckSubDesc) should not be carried around especially as defaults. I do not know how to make a bug report about it.
[21:28:42] jarnos: natanojl, oh, I see
[21:32:07] jarnos: So ProgramInfo::IsDuplicateProgram always returns false, as subtitle is empty on Finnish EIT. kDupCheckDesc would be a better default.
[21:37:13] jarnos: using kDupCheckSubDesc makes ProgramInfo::IsDuplicateProgram always return false, if one or both of subtitle and description is empty.

[21:44:18] jarnos: natanojl, kDupCheckSubDesc could be handled so that only both Sub and Desc being empty would trigger false, not only one of them.

[22:16:27] peterbennett: enyc: Need a back trace to see what is going on. In case it is OpenGL you could try running with -O ThemePainter=qt and see if it starts that way.
[22:16:44] gigem: jarnos: It sounds like you either want kDupCheckDesc or kDupCheckSubThenDesc. The default for new rules in the Default Template recording rule.

[22:24:07] peterbennett: Start frontend with -O ThemePainter=qt and then go into setup and select theme painter as QT
[22:24:21] peterbennett: Then it will always use QT on that frontend
[22:24:35] peterbennett: Also that will cause it to use QT on mythtv-setup
