[15:30:54] smoothifier: hi guys. I can't seem to change my starting channel in livetv. the starting channel is encrypted. I tried in mythtv-setup but it says all tuners starting channel is 3. what can i do? mythbackend keeps crashing and the hdhomerun status light blinks until I quit MFE
[15:33:12] Kwisher: smoothifier: you should be able to change it where you found that
[15:33:22] Kwisher: in the b/e setup
[15:33:45] Kwisher: move to that field and use the right arrow
[15:33:56] Kwisher: or left
[15:35:43] smoothifier: they all say 3
[15:35:56] smoothifier: which seems odd. i'm pretty sure i've done this before
[15:35:57] tonsofpcs: smoothifier: fresh install or existing and new problem?
[15:36:15] smoothifier: upgrade. :/ today
[15:36:25] smoothifier: os from fedora 27 to 28
[15:36:46] tonsofpcs: after you run through mythtv-setup, quit, reopen, then go back in to configuration (4 I think? I can't tell right now, mine is slow to respond and I'm in a different section) and you should be able to set it.
[15:37:04] smoothifier: i'll do that thanks.
[15:37:14] smoothifier: be back with update in a few minutes
[15:37:15] tonsofpcs: I had that issue with a new install of 0.29
[15:37:23] tonsofpcs: mind you I'm still having issues but not /that/ issue :)
[15:47:56] smoothifier: ok so. i can play recordings from last night. i changed the starting channel on each input to 5. it still starts at 937 for some reason. i don't think the channel is actually encrypted unless it happened last night, but i'm not positive
[15:48:40] SteveGoodey (SteveGoodey!~steve@host217-42-175-131.range217-42.btcentralplus.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[15:48:47] smoothifier: the frontend tries 937 and then the frontend complains that the backend is offline. the backend log says that the channel is encrypted and then crashes
[15:49:59] smoothifier: i have a log here if i should pastebin it. its about 10 lines long
[15:53:01] tonsofpcs: yay, looks like I figured it out. there's a m3u MPTS scanning mode! :)
[15:53:27] tonsofpcs: smoothifier: I guess? I'm not sure the whole details here, I ended up changing my channel table to fix it.
[15:53:40] tonsofpcs: It seems odd though because startup cahnnel is supposed to change each time you quit, right?
[15:54:07] smoothifier: yes, i am pretty sure i've seen my current channel in mythtv-setup before
[15:54:13] smoothifier: this happened to me a while ago, couple years ago
[15:55:31] smoothifier: https://pastebin.com/QXxWgY6i is the paste. it got clipped on the left but you can see most of it.
[15:56:49] smoothifier: i wonder if I can record anything. i'll try a test for a few minutes
[16:03:38] smoothifier: well, i could record on a lower channel. 937 was playing a film. mythbackend starts, tries to record Saw and crashes. Not that I want that film. but fortunately it will be over in an hour or so and I can see if I can figure out what's going on with this channel.
[16:04:07] smoothifier: could be a cable company issue. it's SciFi HD. not my favorite but that's what's tuned in on live tv
[16:04:44] ijc (ijc!~ijc@benson.default.arb33.uk0.bigv.io) has left #mythtv-users ()
[16:31:04] Kwisher: why not remove the channels you can't receive?
[16:35:55] smoothifier: i'm not sure that's the problem. the hdhomerunconfig receives the channel
[16:36:11] smoothifier: i can't tell for certain yet whether it's encrypted
[16:36:55] smoothifier: and it worked a week ago
[16:40:04] Kwisher: hdhomerunconfig running in Linux?
[16:42:07] smoothifier: yes. and the cci is unrestricted
[16:42:08] smoothifier: just checked
[16:42:46] smoothifier: so something is choking the backend. hmm well.... not sure what to do. there aren't many fedora updates
[16:43:12] smoothifier: i could try building it myself i suppose from the stock rpms
[16:43:44] smoothifier: worth a shot. i'll try after i have a sandwich.
[16:44:34] smoothifier: the biggest difference from the two channels (one lower numbered worked) is that 937 is HD
[16:45:00] smoothifier: not sure why that would make a difference to the backend. but i'm certainly no expert
[16:51:46] tonsofpcs: there's always the option of fixing it in the database yourself... I did that for something last week.
[16:51:55] tonsofpcs: not recommended of course but there it is

[17:30:54] smoothifier: tonsofpcs: yes i'm willing to go that route. i'm just not sure where that setting is. i'm currently compiling the fedora 28 rpms from source but it may be a futile effort. i just thought maybe there are some new libraries since around this time last month with F28 being in beta right now
[17:32:15] smoothifier: i tuned in 937 with the hdhomerun_config_gui and the web interface but was unable to watch it. i think i need vlc to do that properly which i don't have at this second, but may install a little later today.
[17:32:39] smoothifier: if that works i'll know for certain there is a problem with my backend
[17:33:21] oozer (oozer!~oozer@user-10mt7in.cable.mindspring.com) has quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[17:40:27] smoothifier: ok so, vlc opens up the stream link from the hdhomerun internal webpage. so i think i can say that it's not my cable provider blocking the channel. i guess i'll just keep swinging a sledgehammer at the mythtv installation until it obeys.

[21:37:07] smoothifier: tonsofpcs: sorry, I had to step out of the house for a few hours. I did the sd_json_zz_whatever_sqlite setup all over again, deleting my lineup and re-adding it, deleting video sources/inputs/the whole 9 yards.
[21:38:29] smoothifier: nothing worked. so i restored back to this morning's fedora 27 install and it's fine. there wasn't a version upgrade either on mythtv. I even recompiled the rpms in a f28 vm. so i'm not sure what's going on. it acts like the channels are screwed but i don't know what else to try
[21:39:26] smoothifier: i did not change any file permissions, just upgraded the system as i do every 6 months or so which usually works 90% of the way.
