[08:31:27] Guest97620: been spending a few weeks on mythtv... configuring.
[08:31:43] Guest97620: I have a few questions about input connections...

[08:51:06] bucks: I have a simple setup.
[08:51:19] bucks: but getting a lot of conflicts in the schedules...
[08:51:35] bucks: so something is a little wacky.
[08:55:24] Steve-Goodey: bucks: Too many recordings for the number of tuner cards you have?
[09:04:28] bucks: err not really.
[09:04:56] bucks: i have a single usb happauge twin tuner.
[09:05:03] bucks: how hard can that be ?
[09:05:12] bucks: So 1 x card and 2 x tuners.
[09:06:09] bucks: how hard could that be ?
[09:06:18] bucks: but after much experimentation...
[09:06:26] bucks: Input connections is the key.

[09:19:06] bucks: I would ask though... what is the reccomended setting for input prioroty ?
[09:19:17] bucks: I ended up making it 1.
[09:19:39] bucks: so...
[09:19:51] bucks: I have two connections... con1 and con2 for each tuner
[09:20:00] bucks: input pri is 1.
[09:20:38] bucks: err I mean it is 0 as per default ?
[09:20:48] bucks: shecule order is 1 as per default
[09:20:54] bucks: as is live tv

[13:32:40] Toast: I'm planning to resurrect my myth system, but also make my DVDs and eventually blurays available. Any advice on if it's best to use Myth for the DVDs/Blurays, or if another player would do a better job for them leaving Myth just for TV?

[14:40:49] Toast: What format do you use for DVD? Rip, decript then rebuild the ISO? Direct ISO copy still encrypted? Directory structure?
[14:49:53] SteveGoodey: Toast: Err, just shove the DVD in the drive! :-)
[14:50:21] Toast: OK... I think I forgot an important bit of the question :)
[14:50:58] Toast: I was planning to put the DVDs on my media server so I can get the boxes and disks out of the way. I've got far too many.
[14:51:43] SteveGoodey: Toast: Join the club.
[14:51:51] SteveGoodey: Toast: There's also this, but it's a bit long in the tooth. https://blog.katharsys.com/?p=2932
[14:52:37] Toast: It's going to take me an age to rip my DVDs, perhaps I'll worry about bluray after they're done.
[14:57:17] SteveGoodey: Toast: The latest info on the forum is at https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&am . . . ilit=rip+dvd
[15:00:30] Toast: I read that already. It's good because it tells you what tools are available, but last time I tried this there were multiple formats that Myth would support, but some worked better than others and I was curious about people's experience. If you've not tried it, that's fine. I'll hit google later.
[15:01:10] SteveGoodey: No problem. I'll shut up. :-)
[15:02:11] Toast: Hey, I always appreciate help. :)
[15:03:53] Kwisher: Toast: i'd suggest a 2 step process
[15:04:48] Toast: OK
[15:05:08] Kwisher: if you have the storage space, make iso of wach disk and then multiple iso's can be qued to rip the main movie with handbrake
[15:05:52] Kwisher: depends on what you want for the final product
[15:06:44] Kwisher: i don't do blurays at all so not sure about them
[15:07:57] Toast: I've got plenty of space.
[15:08:28] Toast: Do, just use DD or ddrescue to make ISOs, then use handbreak on them?
[15:09:45] Toast: Kwisher: What's handbrake for? I have no interest in trans-coding.
[15:10:22] Kwisher: yes, handbrake transcodes the video
[15:10:36] Toast: Just to save space?
[15:10:56] Kwisher: there are many options for the finished file
[15:11:04] Toast: I wanted to keep the whole DVD with menus and extras intact.
[15:11:38] Kwisher: well, i'm not that much of a movie buff
[15:12:11] Toast: :)

[15:50:46] mengoshmink: Hi Toast, if I am making a DVDrip (not re-encode) I use dvd95
[15:50:49] mengoshmink: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dvd95/
[15:51:29] Toast: Thanks. I'll have a look.
[15:51:49] mengoshmink: It maybe in your distro repos
[15:52:11] Toast: Is it still useful if you don't want to shrink the DVD?
[15:52:30] mengoshmink: never used it like that
[15:52:50] mengoshmink: or have I, hmm, I dont remember
[15:53:08] Toast: Basically, hard disks are cheap and DVDs are poor enough quality at the best of times. Shrinking them is probably not a good idea.
[15:53:19] Toast: Thanks anyway.
[15:53:57] mengoshmink: DVD's use "old" codecs, just because something is "shrinking" don't consider it bad
[16:37:50] Toast: mengoshmink: If you have to reencode, you lose quality. The new codec may be more efficient if you can start with a lossless original, but when transcoding, you add the bad points of the two codecs, not the good points.
[16:41:35] Hydr0p0nX: anyone have h.265 playback working in myth 29 ?
[16:47:18] mengoshmink: from what source Hydr0p0nX?
[16:47:50] Kwisher: how do you know?
[16:47:55] Hydr0p0nX: encoded some blurays to it and get audio but no video
[16:50:02] Hydr0p0nX: plays fine in vlc
[16:51:37] mengoshmink: I think I encoded a video to h.265 with handbrake and playback was fine, audio and video
[16:51:50] mengoshmink: can you make a sample and send us?
[16:56:03] Hydr0p0nX: i'll try
[17:00:49] Hydr0p0nX: how big of a sample file do you need ?
[17:01:51] mengoshmink: few seconds, few Mb, just will play for audio and video, I'm no expert :)
