[08:13:08] d0c5i5: it's been a while since i've tried to roll my own pvr, is mythtv comperable to wmce?
[08:13:43] Roklobsta: dunno, i have been using it for 7 years though, it's been pretty good.
[08:14:05] Roklobsta: predimonantly for recording DVB-T and playing it, DVDs and videos back
[08:14:15] Roklobsta: try Mythbuntu
[08:15:03] Roklobsta: i am amazed all the fans running in the HTPC case are still quiet after 7 years
[08:15:37] d0c5i5: what i meant was capabilty wise, regardless of quality. i'm willing to give and take a little on what's "the best"
[08:16:06] d0c5i5: i managed to get wmce all setup and going only to find out they really havn't come that far with the extenders
[08:16:34] Roklobsta: records TV off streams, DVB, ATSC, plays back recordings, MPEG2, MPEG4, h.264, h.265
[08:16:50] Roklobsta: don't get too excited about any netflix style plugins.
[08:16:51] d0c5i5: i can put xbox 360s everywhere for watching, but they are noisy and i'm not sure there are many options for non-xbox mce extenders
[08:17:25] d0c5i5: i've got rokus for most of the iptv kinda stuff, and i don't mind switching imputs if i must
[08:17:41] d0c5i5: although, ideally, a pvr that has a client that works on roku would be nice
[08:18:51] d0c5i5: i'd like the wife and kids to be able to stay on one device for live or to watch pre-recorded stuff. right now they switch between netflix/hulu/amazon/plex on the roku for static contents, and i'm just trying to find a cheaper (as in monthly) way to get live tv and pvr stuff going
[08:19:55] d0c5i5: mostly for news and then a few shows they actually care to watch live, like dancing w/stars or whatever
[08:21:21] d0c5i5: i bought and setup one of those ethernet based tuners, and got wmce to work inside a vm, so that was painless, but stupid me i didn't think about the extenders part and i forgot how noisy the xbox 360 was
[08:21:46] d0c5i5: at least if i use an xbox 360 they no longer make me pay for live gold just to use netflix
[08:21:49] Roklobsta: we use our laptops to play recorded mythtv stuff.
[08:22:08] Roklobsta: mythweb is excellent for scheduling and selecting recordings.
[08:22:11] Roklobsta: to play
[08:22:25] Roklobsta: VLC plays the recorded streams just fine
[08:22:27] d0c5i5: Roklobsta: do you use it to watch live and pick/record shows?

[08:23:22] d0c5i5: if vlc will play it then plex could always pick it up so that wouldnt be hard, though i'd like to still give them an on-tv option to pick shows
[08:24:37] Roklobsta: bbl
[08:24:46] d0c5i5: k, thx for ur input :)

[20:16:25] compdoc: if files are missing and the drive is old I think its a good idea checking smart for g-force errors, reallocated, pending, and uncorrectable sectors. you could boot ubuntu desktop and rud the disk utility, or use the command.
[20:17:20] sivik: I don't think its a password problem.
[20:17:22] sivik: I got to that point
[20:17:40] sivik: But now I tried to do some stuff once I got the frontend to come up and now its not starting the backend due to the issue with the capture cards
[20:19:22] sivik: http://pastebin.com/iWpBC9wg
[20:19:26] sivik: totally new error just now
[20:19:42] Bray90820: So I am trying to play recorded TV on mythweb but it sys not found for every video
[20:20:03] sivik: Do you have you path set up right for the mythweb to find your videos?
[20:20:18] Bray90820: sivik: i think so since the metadata is there
[20:20:20] Bray90820: The requested URL /mythweb/mythweb.pl/pl/stream/1691/1443315540.asx was not found on this server.

[20:21:06] Bray90820: Lets find out
[20:22:30] [R] ([R]!~rbox@unaffiliated/rbox) has joined #mythtv-users
[20:23:44] sivik: compdoc: yea, the backend won't start at all for some reasons so I cannot do the filldatabase to fix the error.
[20:23:50] sivik: Maybe I need to clear the db and start over?
[20:25:06] Bray90820: sivik: I can find and play the video in myth without trying to use the web

[20:26:40] Bray90820: And I can play them over my lan in XBMC if that matters
[20:27:52] sivik: I'm not sure. If xbmc plays and you can play them outside of mythweb, its something about the mythweb is set up probably.
[20:28:09] Bray90820: That's what I think s well
[20:28:09] sivik: compdoc: i cannot start mythbackend to populate the database with my cards and I cannot add the cards without the backend running
[20:28:23] Bray90820: sivik: where should I go from here?
[20:28:29] sivik: Bray90820: not sure, never used mythweb
[20:28:55] Bray90820: Anyone else?
[20:30:28] Roklobsta: mythweb works for me what's the problem
[20:31:23] Bray90820: Roklobsta: any time I try to play a recording in mythweb I get this error
[20:31:24] Bray90820: The requested URL /mythweb/mythweb.pl/pl/stream/1691/1443315540.asx was not found on this server.
[20:31:43] Roklobsta: hmmm, i never get that

[20:31:57] Roklobsta: myth
[20:32:35] Bray90820: Roklobsta: So do I
[20:32:58] Bray90820: That's what I get when I try to download the asx file
[20:33:33] Roklobsta: i am using mythbuntu 14.04 with a recent kernel and the 0.28 trunk branch
[20:33:39] Roklobsta: but the asx always worked
[20:33:57] tgm4883: Roklobsta: how's that working for you, 0.28?
[20:34:07] Roklobsta: great. use it
[20:34:20] Roklobsta: so far it's given not much trouble.
[20:34:24] tgm4883: Nice
[20:34:40] Roklobsta: i even tracked down some bugs in 0.27 that got fixed in 0.28
[20:34:57] Kwisher: anyone here doing any transcoding/exporting?
[20:34:59] tgm4883: I've got plans to upgrade, but currently setting up a whole house distributed audio system, then I got parts coming to build a pfsense router
[20:35:14] tgm4883: it's on the list, just behind other stuff
[20:35:14] Roklobsta: the annoying bug for me were 2 cases of the CPU going 100% all the time because of a bad trigger in a loop.
[20:35:49] Roklobsta: save you money, buy a cheap mikrotik for a router, less power, very powerful
[20:36:13] Roklobsta: and just update the repo for 0.28
[20:38:23] tgm4883: Roklobsta: already bought the BIOSTAR J1900MH2 for the router, it's in the mail
[20:39:09] tgm4883: Roklobsta: and Upgrading is gererally very painless, I just need some time to sit down and do it
[20:39:16] Roklobsta: way overkill for a router
[20:39:30] tgm4883: Roklobsta: depends on what you're doing with the router
[20:39:38] Roklobsta: like?
[20:39:54] Roklobsta: router + BT slurper?
[20:40:47] Roklobsta: actually it looks nice for a mythtv box
[20:42:25] devinheitmueller (devinheitmueller!~devinheit@cpe-74-71-114-159.nyc.res.rr.com) has quit (Quit: devinheitmueller)
[20:43:05] tgm4883: No, but I wanted to move from openwrt to pfsense. Straighten out my ipv6. I've currently got a VPN server running on the openwrt box as well
[20:43:21] tgm4883: Then I'd like to setup some VLANs at my house
[20:45:03] Shadow__X: depends on how much bandwidth he has
[20:45:09] Shadow__X: and what packages he wants to run
[20:45:19] Roklobsta: why vlan?
[20:45:24] Shadow__X: tgm4883: great call on pfsense, its great
[20:45:55] tgm4883: 100–120Mbit, with wanting room to grow
[20:46:18] tgm4883: Roklobsta: well I'd like to extend my guest wifi network to my other wireless AP
[20:46:35] Roklobsta: does you other ap handle vlan?
[20:46:44] Roklobsta: and extra ssid?
[20:46:53] tgm4883: Roklobsta: yes, they are both technically openwrt routers
[20:47:37] tgm4883: Then I'll probably want to separate out the audio boxes onto their own VLAN
[20:48:20] tgm4883: I'd also like to move my "service" boxes to their own VLAN, since I have to run a less secure wireless network for them
[20:48:23] Roklobsta: unless you really really need to seperate the broadcast domains VLAN is pointless.
[20:49:04] Roklobsta: especially on a gigbitit network. At home.
[20:49:19] Roklobsta: wow gigbitit. i mean gigabit
[20:49:23] tgm4883: Roklobsta: so then how do I get traffic from my guest wireless network off my second AP to the internet and still have it secured away from my main network
[20:49:34] Roklobsta: i wonder how much data a gigbitit is?
[20:49:50] Roklobsta: well that's a good reason.
[20:49:58] Roklobsta: but for audio and video, nah
[20:50:01] tgm4883: Roklobsta: gigbitit is just a lot of porn
[20:50:13] Roklobsta: true dat
[20:50:33] Kwisher: gigabit=1000 mbs, correct?
[20:50:38] tgm4883: Roklobsta: I wouldn't move the audio unless I was having syncronization issues
[20:51:00] tgm4883: Roklobsta: which I'm not at the moment, but I've only tested with 2 devices
[20:51:09] sivik: I think i'm getting somewhere now
[20:51:57] tgm4883: Shadow__X: yea I was looking at their recommended requirements and I think this hardware will be just fine
[20:52:10] Shadow__X: which cpu on there?
[20:52:15] tgm4883: Shadow__X: J1900
[20:52:26] tgm4883: Celeron processor
[20:52:53] tgm4883: 2Ghz, multicore, passive cooling
[20:52:59] Shadow__X: should be fine
[20:53:11] Shadow__X: which nics>
[20:53:12] Shadow__X: ?
[20:53:34] tgm4883: Yea, I was trying to get enough that if Comcast keeps increasing my speed it would be able to handle it fine (or if Google Fiber ever rolls out here)
[20:53:44] tgm4883: let me check
[20:54:29] tgm4883: Shadow__X: one is a Realtek 8111G
[20:54:32] tgm4883: that is onboard
[20:55:24] Roklobsta: needs moar nics!
[20:55:38] tgm4883: I ordered a second one
[20:55:41] tgm4883: just looking up the model
[20:55:57] tgm4883: Intel EXPI9301CT Gigabit CT PCI-e Desktop Adapter
[20:56:36] tgm4883: This will replace a TP-Link TL-WDR4300 v1
[20:56:40] tgm4883: which isn't a slouch

[20:58:49] Shadow__X: Bray90820: are you doing it manually?
[20:59:00] Bray90820: Mythbuntu contro center
[20:59:02] Shadow__X: and intel is better than atheros isn't it? for the server nic world?
[20:59:03] tgm4883: Meh, the Intel one I bought was $33
[20:59:09] Roklobsta: 4 ports?

[21:01:50] tgm4883: Shadow__X: yea, MCC is broken for mythweb password protection
[21:01:58] tgm4883: it broke during the python2–3 change
[21:02:01] Shadow__X: ah
[21:02:13] tgm4883: IIRC, it just sets a password in the .htaccess file
[21:02:53] Bray90820: tgm4883: so Is it an error i should worry about?
[21:03:13] tgm4883: Bray90820: well you don't need to worry about it, but it didn't set the password
[21:03:17] tgm4883: so you'll still need to do that

[21:07:09] Bray90820: What directory
[21:08:02] Shadow__X: your root directory for web
[21:08:10] Shadow__X: by default unless it changed was apache
[21:08:15] Shadow__X: so usually it would be in /var/www
[21:08:49] compdoc: sivik, what tuner is it?
[21:10:01] Bray90820: Shadow__X: I don't remember changing it but all that's in my /var/www directory is HTML
[21:10:13] Bray90820: A filer called HTML
[21:10:17] Bray90820: *Folder
[21:11:05] Shadow__X: tgm4883: doesn't mythweb in mythbuntu having a symlink in /var/www?
[21:11:53] sivik: compdoc, i'm getting it to scan channels now. Its an hdhomerun with a verizon cable card
[21:11:59] tgm4883: It's apache2.4, so it might be in that html dir
[21:12:38] compdoc: sivik, I have the same thing. Ive had to power the hdhomerun off/on before
[21:12:56] sivik: Yea, I cleared the DB and started over and had to choose something different when adding the cards and now its finding my channels.

[21:14:24] Shadow__X: ls -alh
[21:14:32] Shadow__X: that mythweb file is probably a symlink
[21:15:02] Shadow__X: anyway, you put the .htaccess in that folder requiring a password for mythweb
[21:15:12] Shadow__X: ok A A ron
[21:15:54] sivik: that means you need to go to <host>/mythweb and you should get to your files depending on how its set up.

[22:17:09] Kwisher: what distro?
[22:17:13] sivik: Linux Mint
[22:17:20] sivik: aka ubuntu clone
[22:17:52] sivik: I don't think my database fill is doing it correctly.

[22:18:26] Kwisher: in the b/e setup are you using the ip?
[22:18:43] sivik: for the card or for the server?
[22:18:51] Kwisher: server
[22:18:53] sivik: localhost
[22:18:57] sivik: Cause its a local install for now
[22:19:22] Kwisher: doesn't matter, make it a static ip, save you a lot of headaches
[22:19:40] sivik: I will be doing a different server later. this is test so localhost is fine

[22:21:30] sivik: IP is changed to my local IP
[22:21:36] sivik: 10.100.x.x
[22:21:56] Kwisher: you will need to assign the nic a static ip sometime though
[22:22:09] sivik: Its already static
[22:22:33] sivik: no dhcp
[22:22:41] Kwisher: in the f/e you will need to input the b/e ip also

[22:23:49] Kwisher: same pc?
[22:23:52] sivik: Yes.
[22:26:50] sivik: Kwisher: do I need to have the db server set as static or just the backend?

[22:29:20] compdoc: is it possible to have the channel guide open to a certain channel?

[22:35:53] Shadow__X: sivik: gotcha
[22:36:09] Shadow__X: Kwisher: i was curious if switching to a mythtv distro would be better for sivik
[22:36:28] Kwisher: there is no mythtv distro, except maybe mythbuntu
[22:36:44] Kwisher: mythtv can be installed on any distro
[22:36:57] sivik: I don't think its an issue with what packages I have installed. I think this is just a simple configuration issue or something i'm missing somewhere
[22:37:54] Shadow__X: Kwisher: right it can be installed on many distros, there were a couple last time i checked like mythbuntu, mythdora, etc
[22:38:19] Shadow__X: and while you can install it on other distros, sometimes having it setup for you can help people get things working sooner
[22:38:41] Shadow__X: sivik: i agree, it sounds like a config issue, did you make sure to read through the docs?
[22:38:46] ctmjr: sivik: are you sure your capture card is setup right with any needed firmware

[22:41:56] ctmjr: you mean schedules direct
[22:41:56] Shadow__X: thats for listings info
[22:41:58] sivik: yes, thats what I mean
[22:42:08] Shadow__X: which is something you should use with mythtv lol
[22:42:53] Kwisher: you also can't scan with the cc tuner
[22:43:03] sivik: Kwisher: alright
[22:43:24] ctmjr: you need to delete the card in mythtv then add it again and do not run a channel scan
[22:43:34] sivik: Ok
[22:43:38] Shadow__X: yup, although you could delete the channel group
[22:44:09] Shadow__X: delete all the channels you added
